Well, as small as possible. I’m thinking sub-£100, although that is clearly unrealistic. I see package deals going on ebay with kite, board and control gear for £300-£400, so was thinking of one of them. Need a ballpark for board models and lengths though. Presumably I want a twin tip? A list of appropriate kites/sizes wouldn’t go a miss either… thanks

so would the Toro have sufficient depower? as for boards, any thoughts? im looking for second hand bargains by the way... thanks

Kingralst - do you mean "no mate" to the appropriateness of the kite? I'm looking to get one secondhand, so any ideas for a kite that'll give me some summertime action (low wind), with the necessary safety features?

sounds good. what kite did you get? i have no gear, and haven't time to do anything really until the end of term, so might wait until easter so i don't rush into anything...

I'm at Oxford. I think they just offer free gear and cheap holidays for the club, so i didn't join because i can't really afford to give up the time to go away in term time so it wouldn't be worth it. i suppose i few lessons wouldn't go a miss. would like one days worth be sufficient, if i got to grips with the kite on land before i had the lessons?

im a student so won't be paying for lessons, was hoping i could cheekily get someone to show me the basics one day. I'd be up for popping down to hayling one day if you could show me the ropes? I'm at university untill the end of November. Am yet to get a kite/board/wetsuit/any kitesurf gear, but really want to get into it. are you likely to be around in December? Will the weather ever be good enough this end of the year? cheers Dan

Hi. Would a North Toro 2006 14m be an appropriate kite for a beginner kite surfer, competent with land boarding on fixed bridle kites (blade III 6.6)? Would it have the necessary safety features? Would it be too big? Thanks, Dan

It was a unviversity club, they arrange weekend trips and then a big one each year at Easter. It was tempting, but studying law means i could never even contemplate giving up a whole weekend during term time, so i havent joined. I might be up for the annual one in the holidays, apparently last year £250 got you 10 days in spain with kit, food and travel. How far is it to horsepath? i live central (am at Jesus college) but have a bike so could bosh it out there one day (if i ever have time!). thanks for all the offers guys, maybe meet some of you soon.

Hi. Just wondering if anyone at Oxford was up for a bit of kiting. I only saw a stand for kitesurfing at the Freshers Fair, and am more of a land boarder myself. I currently am without any kites whatsoever (no room in the car when I came up), so (cheeky as it may seem) I’d be up for having an outing with someone who’s got some equipment. Is there anywhere fairly near central Oxford that’s kitable? Cheers Dan
