Outtacontroll Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Ive got the hang of blasting along the ground, usin a harness and all that stuff, but i cant pull any airs unless ive got some form of kicker to hit. Even then its just the speed giving me lift. The kite im using is a 4.3 nasa wing, has that got anythin to do with it? Help!!!! Quote
Drifter Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Id say the kite was your problem, not flown one myself, but if you want air id reccomend something that will give you lift, like a little devil, blade or even a frenzy...... basically the theory is as you are going along full power get the kite low and slightly infront of you then chuck hard back the opposite way your going............ oh and hang on! this is a basic discription but youll get the hang soon enough! getiton Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Well... I am not exactly experienced myself... (so willing to be corrected!) but when I get air and have seen others get air (of the sort you would want.. vertical, not horizontal ;-0) It mostly seems to involve working the kite from one side up and across the the window, moving yourself back just as the pull bites and then letting it lift you upwards and forwards rather than just (ouch) forwards.. I am sure that is over simplifying it and will let the more experienced but in. ;-) Quote
burgy Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 You'll never really get much of a dynamic boost with a NPW. You can get the kite to act like a skyhook & you can get a little air that way but there not quick enough for you to jump like a foil. get going fast, send the kite back & up while you turn a bit upwind, as the kite starts to stop you, jump. your momentum should help swing you out under the kite. This is the way you jump in real ligt winds too. just using your momentum & the kite as a break. Dont forget to redirect the kite so you dont luff on landing. Later steve Quote
drunkmonkey Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 top tip's there from burgy, i would also recomend your first attemps to be without a board on your feet. Try running upwind slightly, then follow burgy's tips on kite handeling to get you up. This helped me a lot in the beggining, as when you are fully powered, going at full tilt speed it's a spooky idea to send the kite back in the oppisit direction and up, without having had lift before. Good luck and go for it. P.S Shopping for a better kite would help a lot to. Quote

bushflyer Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 tried some of your tips myself and i can get air, the problem at the moment is i seem to end up swinging under the kite and landing flat on my back. is the kite position wrong? it might have had something to do with the blind panic i experienced and froze up, but my legs do seem to swing all over the place making landings difficult. drunkmonkey Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 intresting, never had that happen to me before, but reading your responce makes sence, blind panic and legs flailing, sounds like the big problem. Maybe you are trying to extend your legs for touchdown a little to early, resulting in a back slap. Take it easy brother feel the need to fly, and look to spot your landing. Vizulise the whole prosess, and get your head ready for it, and hopefully you wont flap to much once your in the air. But no matter what keep at it you will get the feel in the end. Quote
