Tangent210 Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Whats the worst injury you've sustained while kiting? I've been pretty lucky and nothing but bumps and bruises and a twisted ankle. Quote
toeside Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 i was jumping off the sand dunes with my waroo and it picked me up and i landed much further then i wanted too on a wire fence with a lot of stitches to my leg. toeside Quote
SHEPPO3930 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 few bumps, bruises, cuts and grazes.. i have been lucky so far. Quote
schmik Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Nothing bad recently but in the early days..... combine landboarding or static flying and gusty inland crap and the results can hurt. The worst have been a broken ankle and a cracked heelbone. Not at the same time though. schmik Quote
goshen Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I banged my knee about 5 years ago. It hurt for a while (but I had to go see the doctor!). I've been lucky too - don't start a thread about near misses! :D Although I think Lee's experiences will top the thread (not counting major kitesurf accidents). Quote
rainmaker112 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 got my new peter lyn mk2 took it down to the beach for the first time did not take the splash guard down with me (it takes to long to put on ) got smashed by mr bluebottle that jumped into my shorts took some time to get over it Quote
max Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 this isnt really a kiteboarding injury but i thought i would throw it in anyway. doing some freestyle on the mountain board, launched off the jump, twisted so i was horizontal in the air landed face first on the ground followed by my left wrist. broken wrist in 2 places, broken nose, Concussion. cheers Max Yarra Quote
Jason Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 Kitesurfing- MCL tear, torn abdominals. Landboarding- Cracked Heel Buggying- Third breast thanks to buggy landing on my chest. The MCL and the heel took the longest to recover. Quote
Steve Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 So Jason, do you actually have 3 breasts now? I think there would be a good market for third breasts? Worst injury was when I was lofted on beach with a Mosquito 5.5M kitesurfing foil. Fractured lumbar vertebrae, fractured fibia, never went to the doctor for years, then discovered the tibia never healed, gives me grief now. lesson - if you get injured go see a doctor straight away!!!! Quote
Jason Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Yeah haven't you seen Total Recall? Thrice the fun:rofl: Desperate days to be flying a Mosquito, must have been a few years ago. Quote

Jesus, that's some pretty serious injuries. I don't know how you could stand to NOT see a doctor with stuff like that, back injuries are by far the worst. How did you do anything after that with a fractured vertebrae? Quote
Steve Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 It was extremely dumb of me for sure. I had experienced a bit of pain from similar injuries in the past (2 previous motorcycle crashes), so was a bit "used" to pain I guess. Anyway I managed to drive home, and then spent the next few weeks watching the 2000 olympics from a horizontal position, after they ended I got bored and started going down to the shop for as long as I could stand it, it came good over time and I forgot about it, until I got sick of the pain that remained and got myself checked out thoroughly. No-one should ever do what I did though, and I am really paying for it now. Jesus, that's some pretty serious injuries. schmik Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I 2nd that notion, go see a doctor! When i broke my ankle jumping in inlands gusty crap i did not go to the doctor. 4 weeks later when it still hurt like s&*t i did go to to a doctor. Turns out the ?ibia (the smaller bone, the one on the outside of your leg) was clean snapped. Right on the lump that sticks out on the outside of your ankle. Anyway.... it had healed already (4 weeks with a mountain bikeing ankle brace and crutches). I then had to see a specialist. He said it was OK but would hurt later.... it was 1mm out of place. He said he could re-break it and try healing it again.... and it may still be 1mm out so suggested not to bother. It does hurt sometimes. Not where i broke it but the ligaments around it. Who knows though this may have been the case even if i had seen the doc. ANyway two lessons learned. 1. Go see the doctor 2. Ignore your wife when she says "can you stand on it", yeah, "well then it's not broken you pusssy". like steve.... i was used to the pain. I had had a few mtb accidents and i used to skateboard (fcuk concrete is hard..... you learn to live in pain) mike Quote
Steve Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Or is Pain where you learn to live? Nice one Scmik! Quote
Lee Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 It is always good to see a doctor and if you cant get up well then call an ambulance. Also it always pays to kite with friends rather than by yourself, so that if something happens you have someone there to help you out(i.e. a bad scenario would be if you got knocked unconscious and the kite is still attached to your harness fully powered without the safety being pull. That is when you need friends around. Although that didn't happen to me i was just using it as a example) I that kiting is safer with friends around know this fact for sure and would probably have had the worst injures on this thread to date with what has happened to me landboarding. Too right Lee!! There is no reason to not see a doctor, we have one of the best medical systems in the world, I was a complete dumb arse for sure and it cost me dearly. What has happened to you in your landboarding adventures?? Quote
Luke Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 I still have a big headache and stiff neck from the jump that went wrong on the weekend, Id have to say that was my closest to getting seriously injured now! Quote

JKS Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 so far the worst has been Tendonitis in the hand from too much kiting Quote
Longbow Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 That just means you haven't been going reguarly enough! Quote
JKS Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Nah ..... I have just been spoilt for the last 6 months and have abused my body:) Quote
