mick Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Yesterday was a lovely 12 mtre day. I was determined to have a jump. I tried a few times. I tried to figure out pop and redirection and stuff. Then all of a sudden it clicked. A little bit of a ramp, bend my legs, pull on the bar and boing ; I'm airbourne. From then on I'm popping them regularly. A change of location. Flat as a witches tit and I was still going up. I am hooked. A couple were at least 6 feet but I rotated and landed on my ass. I could look down and see the water. So much to learn, so little time. Quote
Andy-j Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 nope, i remember my first massive 'mega' loop though. Quote
StarKitesUK Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Yes, I do. I was 14 and she was beautiful Quote

balugh Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Similar with me Mick...a little wave for a ramp....pull the kite in to take in the slack...and airborne. It only gets better from here..but do work on the soft landings because us old blokes don't bounce nearly as well as we used to... Quote
StarKitesUK Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 She really was a heart breaker mate. Still is. My first kite surfing jump? No my first sizeable jump. I remember the feeling but not the act. Glad you've moved on to jumping. You are really going to love those big wind days I do remember my first hard slam Paul Quote
mick Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 I actually landed more softly than I did badly. I only cocked up one or two tbh. The worst ones were the highest where I started to rotate and ended up backwards going forwards and upwards. What I did find amazing was the noise. Well the lack of it as the board left the water. Would not have been able to walk to the water with q 12! We were all on 12s down at Heacham but I came up to Searles in the afternoon. Didnt you see the 2 kites down from the fairground? I was on a 9 then but my 12 would have been ok. I reckon it was 25 mph down at Heacham. Pretty scary walking the walk back at low tide. What a hike that was. Of course, the answer was to know what time low tide was. I did. 1.50 !!!! But a mate convinced me it was 2.50 and we stuck miles out. He'd gone by 12.30 so missed the walk. quick edit. We rode the tide back in and walked up from the groynes. Everybody had gone from New Town but I thought I saw some orangey learner kites in the water. Was there lessons going on there.? We did a downwinder from Heacham to sailing club about 12 then stayed out till 4. Sure we must have passed on the water. I was on a green bandit and toby on a 6m red park. Fab day. Quote
mick Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 We were well out at Heacham. You wasn't on 9s at Heacham surely? Paul did mention a couple were going to do a down winder. I assume it was you two he was talking about but I didn't see anyone running down that way. I was having too much of a good time out at sea. Did you see Ashley on the beach at Heacham? Quote

andrew pattullo Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 hey mick you started this thread , "first jump" a jump is a controlled jump , of height and float , and a controlled landing , I thought when I first started leaving the water I was jumping , when it was pointed out to me , I was only doing a pop ! got the hang of it now can get well above 20ft with good float , an ozone edge helps in the extra height and float ! Quote
andrew pattullo Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 First jump ! I remember she was blonde ,laid flat like a star fish , and 5 seconds it was all over !!! mick that was a 6ft jump !!!!!! Quote
