Yea bob when you get there you will find a great big lobster, ask joel :)

The Big Red Prawn In .... sorry couldn't resist that, it's an old joke.

Bob you will be coming from the East, so when you see the big red lobster, the turn off to the beach is coming up soon. I've already posted the GSP coordinates of the turn off. When you get to the beach, turn right. Don't be tempted to turn left and cross the creek you will get bogged.

Anyone else like to post their route map for getting to this event?

http://www.whereis.com/?id=263B294137F4DB

Anyone have any local knowledge that might help a non-local in getting there?

Yep, that's exactly the route I took last year. Was unprepared for the "YOU MUST NOT TAKE FRUIT AND VEG INTO S.A." sign though. This time I'll do my vege shopping in Kingston. Once you've finished in Kingston, head North on the Princess hwy past the lobster about 3km, then you'll go over a bridge marked 'Blackford Drain' . Just over that is the dirt road to your left - straight onto the beach. Somewhere about 1.5-2km North along the beach is where we were last year and I assume will be this year. Was heaps of cars/4wd's last year during the 24hr fishing comp, but once that finished there was very little traffic on the beach.

Before I asked if anyone would be interested in doing the 4x4 track between Robe and Beachport but haven't had any interest yet. Anyway, a fellow I was in contact with on a 4x4 forum drove to track over the Christmas/New Year period and spoke very highly of it. He also wrote a trip report here and attached a couple of very good documents if anyone is interested.

I was thinking if any Victorians are up to it we could meet at Beachport and take the "back way" into Robe on the way to Kingston. The track should be easily doable in a day. Any takers?

The other possibility would be to head off for a bash should we encounter a luck luster day at Kingston itself.

As I said before I'd love to do this track but am reluctant to attempt it on my own ;)

:blind: can someone tell me what sort of "arrangemets" there are witht he local counciland police for using the beach as i understand that there are speed restrictions on the beach, or at least i have been told by the CEO of the local council down there when I approced with the idea of holding a land yacht regatta on said beach,, they weren't opposed to the idea but did raise a few issues about speed and other beach traffic and I was just wondering what the kite buggy folk have done , any info would be a great help

I think the best approach is not to attract too much attention to your self, don't ask officials questions where the answer may not be to your liking, behave and be sensible about your speed runs. (Ok, what would I know, I've only been to Kingston once). Hence why we keep the kites down while the fishermen are heading back home, and when people/cars come by on other days you slow down.

Hi Guys

Im In. yeah! il be there on the 25th night and stay for a couple of days, not sure how long but will just play it by ear! :D

Hi Slarti

Would like to meet you. :good: Would like to go 4wd but im not sure if my 4wd mate is coming down this time, everyones busy with work. So it might just be a last minute thing with pete.

Ive read the write up on the 4x4 forum about the track from robe to kingston, it sounds a bit dicey, got to really plan for something like that and know what your doing if you wana attempt it.

Theres plenty of soft sand and dunes to have a play in at Kingston just after the granites. i think you would have more fun if you just stayed close to camp, and did a bit of 4wd on the days with no wind!

i have a pathfnder but il just be using that as a base for all my stuff!. But we can see how we go. :yes3:

Im trying to get spartan to come along as he missed sandy point, but he says he is working. Come on spartan!!! :clapping:

Regards

Land yachts used to go down there years ago, but stopped going for some reason. i thing it was to do with the conditions.

As regards to speed there is a speed limit of 40k an hr on most beaches that allow vehicles.

There is no real speed freaks down there, It is all just a matter of people cruising with kites and buggys and people fishing and having a good quite time.

lots of the kiting is actually done out on the water (kitesurfing)

Probably the worse thing to look out for is motor bikes and 4wd from the fishing comp as it gets a bit busy with a few hundred fisherman there.

The salt lake can be a bit seasonal, if they have had heavy rain its a bit soft, so the land yachts dont like it much.

Mind you, one look at that car and one has to ask....Why??

Hehe, I like it.

I was thinking of posting a Figure of 8 knot and was trying to think of a way to make an "8kn" reference but thought I'd leave it and see if anyone else came up with something.

I like yours John :good:
