I feel very sad today, I have been in the kite world for over 9 years and have put all my efforts into pushing flyers younger than myself to promote Kitesports and hopefully obtain lottery funding to develop the sport for future flyers. Alan has become a thorn in my side, I have never and I repeat never said a bad word to Alan.

 

My first experience with Alan (appo) was when he phoned the old shop up back in 2001 and hurled abuse at my wife for daring to organise a training event at “his” beach in Redcar. A nice start. True we used to arrange advanced training sessions for flyers who wanted to develop their skills more, i.e. backwards and 360’s in buggies, jumps and 360’s on boards. We were looking for a venue on the east coast to run such an event and Redcar was on the list, we hadn’t confirmed any locations at that point as we hadn’t contacted Simon (the local shop) to get his views. Alan claimed we were going up there to leach sales from the local shop and if any problems occurred, i.e. accidents from this, it would probably be banned and we would walk away from it without caring. He offered that we could use “his” instructors for the sessions, I asked what qualifications they had to which he cold not answer, hence he was offering unqualified people to teach on a public beach. I didn’t find this acceptable for the type of training organisation we wanted to build. I did later contact Simon at the local shop and offered any sales that came on the day from any training course we may do would be directed to him, he though this was a good idea and agreed with it. We never did use Redcar beach and the local shop because of the abusive tones of Alan.

 

The second experience was at the National Freestyle Event at Cleethorpes in 2006. I was the Comp. Director which involved making sure the freestyle comp ran smoothly and fairly on the beach. 3 of my colleagues also ran the NFC company, between them they organised the campsites, evening parties, liaison with the councils, insurances etc…I wanted to keep a lower profile as anyone who didn’t shop with Airbossworld maybe put of going to the comps. As I wanted the comps to be open to everyone without any issues or politics. A complaint from a member of public was given to the NFC after the event, reporting that a blue van parked in the campsite had 2 dogs in it, they were barking, it was a hot summer day and they were concerned for their health. They were going to report it to the RSPCA and or the police, but got confronted by a man who hurled abuse at them. Saying to mind their own business and giving threats. Now these are the words of that person. I was at the time on the beach running a freestyle comp. the NFC had to act on this complaint, one idea was to reduce points from the Ozone riders in the comp, but this was later dismissed. As they said the van had a big ozone sticker on the side of it, the first port of call was Chris Hill at Ozone UK. He said it was probably appos’ van and in no way was he connected with Ozone, hence the dismissal of the reduction in rider points idea. The NFC sent a letter to the member of public who complained, apologising for the incident. They never contacted the RSPCA or the Police. This and the fact my brand new 10m Frenzy was pinched out of the back of my van were the things I remember from that comp. which for me is a great shame.

The third experience I had with Alan is when he arrived at the Airfield to help with an Ozone demo day as an Ozone Brand rep, this I found odd as being previously told he had nothing to do with Ozone, from the importer of Ozone and the fact that he turned up without even calling me. That evening we allowed people to stay over without charge and we stood around the fire having a beer. A guy who was a freelance instructor from Airbossworld was quiet outspoken and asked about Alans ear. Now Alan blames me for this guy asking this question, he later rang me up hurling a bit more abuse and saying he was very hurt and went to sleep in tears that night. How can I be responsible for someone else’s opinions, although I did apologise to him and asked the instructor in question to also apologise for such a sensitive situation. I don’t know whether he ever did, but I still can not see why this is my fault? He still claims it is.

 

So finally the appozone.co.uk incident. One of my hobbies to buying domain names, ask anyone, I have some good ones, daft ones and some that people might buy one day, just like the guys who bought f1.com and sky.com back in the day, you never know I might make a few pennies from them. Appozone.co.uk was available for anyone to buy and as when ever I met this man there was abuse hurled at me I thought I would buy it. Now I can’t remember when it was redirected to the ABW forum and the reason for doing it, maybe to get back at him for the countless number of times he has caused me troubles. But as soon as I heard of something being put on his facebook page (something that I can not see) I removed the redirect. I have had the domain since dec 2008 so did this cause any drop off of people visiting the appozone forum? Had it caused any untoward issues with his business? If so he’s never told me. Since the redirect has been removed this thread has continued and I was told it was about time to answer the question or as I would say open the box. Alan rang me up yesterday and hurled abuse down the phone saying I was an underhand f..k..g low life bast..d and that he is taking me to court and can’t wait to meet me. I’m not sure if the last bit is a threat or he means in court. So this is why I have put this on the forum. The truth, nothing made up, judge for yourself if I have done anything wrong, ask yourself why Alan has chosen to dislike me so much. I started Airbossworld to give me a living and promote Kitesports to as many people as I could, training people to safely fly kites and giving people a fair deal. No hidden or underhand agenda

 

I have never said anything that would offend Alan, although we do not see eye to eye (and I am still not sure why) there is nothing that has caused any problems between us. My only question to Alan is why are you continuously having a pop at my company. Our company pride ourselves on good advice, never giving the wrong advice to make a sale. My ethics are no politics, kiting is about putting a smile on your face and enjoying the thrill of the wind. Alan can you please put what ever you have behind you and let the sport build and become a sport that everyone can enjoy.

 

I don’t use the forum much, as you can see by the amount of total posts I have, but when I do it seems to defend either myself or my company, if threads like this need to start can the people involved please get the true facts right and don’t just make ideas up. Yes there is freedom of speech and your own opinions, but before you publish them to the world please think how it affects the person you are directing it at and would you like that type of abuse or statement given to you. Let’s use the forums for good advice, arranging kites meets etc….not trying to put people down and trying to destroy their ambition and drive for Kitesports.

Domain squatting is common business online. There are millions of registered domain names, owned by companies who are active in the internet business, and just buy the domain names, hoping someone will pay big money for it someday. It's a business like any other. Some coountries (like Belgium) do prohibit you from buying a domain name to which you are not the lawfull owner. That means, I could not buy http://www.KITECROWD.CO.UK for instance because I am not the owner of KITECROWD [TM]. In case someone does buy it, you can take legal actions against that person. I understand this law does not exist in the UK.

 

If Judge G would have stopped after that "it's a business activity to buy domain names" comment, it would have been better for the whole discussion. Adding "maybe to get back at him for the countless number of times he has caused me troubles" might not have been the smartest thing to say though and will start this whole discussion all over again, to no avail.
