Hi guys

With 2 games of football on at Amaroo this afternoon and the wind forecast for N/W to S/W winds , anyone have any ideas for another location to go kiting?

Hi Jonesy,

(Where do you get your info about football from - it might be worthwhile checking the games at Lanyon oval too)

Its school holidays, so if there is no football at Mawson, that could be interesting.

What about the ovals either side of the MINT (see if Andy's offspring has landed yet - due about 10:30 I think)

Hey Guys,

I have been wanting to try and have a fly at the Stromlo Forrest Park. There is a nice grassy patch that would be good. Im just not to sure about kiting there (it being a bike park and all) Might head down there this arvo and check it out.

Jonesy,

Click on the venue for a game and the website gives you a list of all the games in all grades at that venue!

Sundays are looking good for the rest of the season

i'm gonna head down to amaroo and shake the moths out of the kite anyway, maybe a miracle gust will come thru and it will fly. will be nice to have the oval to ourselves for a day.

Damm footy..... if the forcast is correct and the wind is coming from the N-N/E the Canberra Uni ovals might be worth a try (nice step down between ovals to jump), other wise the lower oval at Amaroo should be available as their are only 2 games on, and with a good break between the 2 (chicks game should be finished before lunch, next game starts at 2pm) for a session on the top oval, thats if I have read the program right?

I am going to try for a fly close by at Chapman in the morning. My niece and nephews are very keen to see the kite airborne before they head back home to Sydney tomorrow afternoon. After a fly with them I will head out to fly with you lot. So I'll probably make some calls and find out where the crowd is.

Looks like Sunday has picked up too. Finally we might have some usable wind. :good:

looks like sunday is the go, no footy and BOM says:

Forecast for Sunday

Overcast day with some light morning rain, clearing during the afternoon.

Moderate to fresh northwest winds.

I might have already put up this link, but here is the TAMS version of the booking sheet:

gusty day, took me awhile to launch the PL

Gav had some fun... I was already running after my kite in the background, but seeing a kite buggy that high, I kept on running... Gav seemed OK.

After you guys left, I got another hour in the variable conditions, only a few more good runs, wind got a bit patchy late in the day, although the sky cleared up nicely and wasn't so cold by the end, with a nice bit of afternoon sun.

That was quick. I had only just uploaded that video. :good:

HOLLLYYY SHHIIITTTT did you call the airport after that dude that was amazing nice work gav glad you were ok after the stack. You must give me a copy of that clip

It was huge there is no doubting that. And its always good to walk away from a stack without a scratch. Notice the I had all my pads on. :good:

You should be able to download the clip from Vimeo if you have an account.

Otherwise I'll have to trade you off for a clip of you getting some air huh :derisive:

Nah, PM me your email (if it can handle a 10Mb file) and I'll email it to you.

After seeing that I'm thinking being stuck at work all day may not have been such a bad thing.......

Bit harder on the redirect may help to smooth the landing out a bit Gav......

But good to see you got through it unscathed ... ... safety gear is worth every cent spent imo.... :D .

Andy.... :)

Is that where you were, the oval felt a little empty. Mate the day was great. There were the usual Canberra holes in the breeze but nothing you couldn't handle. After all I've seen you fly in worse. I had stepped up to the 10m after some careful consideration, mainly because I was getting frustrated when the 8m kept stopping me in the middle of the oval. The kite was up but I really had to work it to get any power from it.

I feel far more at home with the 10m anyway. You may have noticed that I was half powered down in that jump. I was constantly trimming the depower as the gusts came through. After the stack I went in for a quick breather then planned to get back out while the adrenaline was fresh. It wasnt til then that I noticed that the I bent another buggy wheel bolt. So i was out of action for the day. :(

Not to worry my composite axle arrived today. Should be up and running soon. Til then I might try (not) to bend a few more ;)

You won't look back after fitting the composite Gav....they are the ducks guts for taking the crunch out of a bad landing, and lighten the load nicely.. :yes3:

Hope we get some wind this week for you to try it out.... :drinks:
