mick Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Hi Garry. One of the most consistent kites yesterday was that old Arc thing. What about the C Quads and Petey on the Blade 4 mtre? With the wind blowing as it was, in hind sight you were too high up the beach. but even where I was, my kit was covered in sand. Down by the waters edge there was some terrific runs, completely smooth and flat BUT as you say, some of those holes. Jeez I hit em a few times . One was water filled and I nearly drowned. I coulda done with your snorkel mate. I covered 18 miles in all. Quote
HOUSE Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 One of the most consistent kites yesterday was that old Arc thing Lol Good ol' faithful was underpowered most of the day but 18 - 28 mph and I hardly knew I was wearin' it. 36 top but didn't try flat out - too many peeps, creeks and as Robocourier said, hidden potholes of varying depth. Enjoyed the day as ever and we had a good turnout. Matt (Windjammer) and I went on an excursion north but had several creeks and potholes to negotiate on the way - we got about 3 or 4 miles up the coast and then gave up. Pity the guys to the north set up on the main drag strip but then - each to their own ! Quote

LABen2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Well what a day it was. Sorry didn't get chance to come and say hello. As still unexperienced, we thought we'd try and stay out of your way. The 4m beamer was a bit hectic but somehow I've woke up this morning bruiseless and not too stiff. So must be doing something right! Although the harness definitely helped as the rest of my mates can't move today! Cracking beach and a great days flying. Didn't realise who was going down so next time we're there we will come and say hello. Is the beach normally harder in more places or not as was seriosuly tricky on the board. Clocking up 15mph then hitting soft sand ended in some interesting bails! Quote
popeyethewelder Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 Yes normally there is a huge hard drag strip.....the beach has changed a bit Quote
mick Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 What size was it House. It seemed very comfortable for sure? I came up a bit of the way behind you 2 but then got a tad bored struggling upwind with a little kite. Mine was only a 2.8. Great for going fast downwind but upwind I was struggling, just not enough power. I had a few other control issues which I sorted out just before I packed up (as usual) My strop was a bit long and I was having trouble holding the line coming back up. Quote
softmint Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 7.5 frenzy was ace even doing twos up on buggy bit harder getting back but mannaged it got to straightend bracing bar up as one of my passanger bent it when i had no choice but to go through the craters dam metorites haha was a good day and have now eniotiated a newbie in to the fold of kiting:P Quote

It's a 4.6 Mick - could have done with the 6.3 but it is not in my quiver. You looked to be really flying along downwind - I saw you do some very impressive drifts to brake. Did I read predator on the kite? Quote

Clocking up 15mph then hitting soft sand ended in some interesting bails! Be sure to come over next time! The beach is often like this after the sea has become rough. If we have days of westerlies and calm sea followed by an onshore, then the beach can be great. We nearly always have an area at the dune side of the beach which is soft, but as Carl says, there is a sweet spot around mid beach where a best line can be found usually. Fingers crossed Mother Nature and the Moon will flatten it all out again for us....... It pays to spend the first 20 minutes cruising along checking for potholes. It's possible to have a flat beach with one 2 ft deep pot lurking in the middle - not the kind of thing to hit at 30mph plus. Quote

You looked to be really flying along downwind - I saw you do some very impressive drifts to brake. Did I read predator on the kite? Hey I'm really more impressed with it now I know it was a 4.6. Blimey it looked so comfortable. Very very impressive. So stable. I once watched MJE and Rob Hills with 9 mtre Phantoms and that was wicked. I was on a 2.2 and they were just so good. Its the only time till yesterday that I would have contemplated a PL. I reckon a tad bigger would have been a flyer. I managed a top speed of 43 but most of the runs toward town were 40 ish. You didn't see the 40 mph drift and flip then . Pete said the buggy flipped 3 times. He may be exaggerating but I don't mind. I hit a patch of soft sand and rolled hard. I lay there for a minute cos the kite line had wrapped round my ankle. I thought, please don't power up. Anyway it was ok. Carl and Petey came over to check I was alrite. A stiff neck today was all fortunately. The kite is an old Mk.1 Predator 2.8 bought off here for £30 I think it was. I love it. Its mega stable and just keeps going. In the afternoon when the sand started to blow I could cruise at 40 with the kite out of the power zone. @Softmint. You looked to be having fun and aint that what its about? Quote
LABen2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Yeah I'll come across if see you all down there next time. Is there any camp sites close by that allow raised fires? Just doing a day trip was a bit of a killer. Set off at 7.30am and got home at 10.30pm. Was a looong day! Loved every minute of it! A camp site close by would mean being able to spend a weekend or longer there and the misses can come and have a play. Quote

Now I've had to go out in the dark with the camera Here ya go.................. That looks great Si, love the name on there. What materials did you use, I am very impressed with that I had a mess about with mine over the weekend too http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4628921657_533ab72f99_b.jpg With having mine fixed to the anti roll bar that moves up and down, it makes it a bit awkward Like my new wheels BTW...it takes the buggy to 68kgs now lol http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4628952817_bcf2ee5f1a_b.jpg Edited May 27, 2010 by popeyethewelder Quote
HOUSE Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Carl - the mudguard has been bent into shape from a piece of alloy and I made the stays from a strap of the same stuff - it used to be a For Sale board years ago. Cut a rubber mat to make a flap at the base. I tried it last Tuesday night - had just over an hour at Mable with a 16 mph onshore so did around 22miles - the guard works ok but I probably need some side panels between the forks and guard so might look at doing that next in some thin plastic card. Your guard looks good and the rims - well they are just awesome. So how was Wallop? - if the wind was anything like here then there should have been a few moments to remember !! I'm watching XC now - may go to the beach for an hour if it turns a bit as forecast Quote
