Hi all,

I'm pretty new to kiting and live near Southampton - was just wondering where the best places to fly are around this area?

and while its great fun messing about with the kite on my own (my mates that fly live the other side of Basingstoke) it'd be good to meet up with some other kiters in the area...

Thanks!

Si

Welcome dude;)

Places the Soton lot go to are;-

  1. Lords hill
  2. Port Solent
  3. Weston Shore
  4. Hudsons field, Salisbury
  5. West Witterings, winter weekdays

There should be some links on my website for the above locations.

Are there any good sites in Romsey that we don't know about?

AV. Looks like you borrowed big daddy's blue prints. Did that pallet in the background donate some parts? Looks like you could kee the rear wheels on as well? Those foot pegs cleaned up nicely.

The foot pegs are really nice now. Just need to sort out the stirups :-)

I could easily keep discs on the back, not sure about the bigfoots.

Nah, no paletes used some 1 inch ply, but it's now drying as varnished it.

I might get my buggy on top too.

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply will have to check out some of those places soon.

As for places to fly in Romsey - um, quite poor I'm afraid.

There's Farley Mount (ok for landboards if the wind is in the right direction possibly) but due to the trees it can be a bit gusty!

Danebury (the field next to the Hill Fort) - I havent seen any restrictions on flying here...

Just been down to Highcliff beach today - seems to be quite good in the evening when the tide's out but again not sure of the restrictions on flying.

Other than that there's Hensgistbury Head (bit further afeild) but your limted to 3.5m kites and no boards - but there is a really good shop about 200m away from the feild/beach!:)

I know of H head & the kite shop. I've heard of F mount but don't know where it is, what's the Danebury field like for wind?

If your'e interested, SEKA are having a meet at Lords Hill next Sunday. Might not get much racing done but it's good to meet up with numerous like minded people;)

Welcome Carling09!

Come down to Lordshill on the 17th to meet some of us as there is a mini SEKA event going on, on that day. Other than that if there is a group of kiters at LH when your flying come over for a chat as it might be one of us ;)

Hi Martin,

Farley Mount is just the other side of Hursley (on the road to Winchester) - the large amount of trees about make it better for static flying on a windy day.

Danebury is much better and at the top of the hill so pretty much any wind direction is ok - just watch out for the sheep if they're in the field!!

Will definately try and get down to L' Hill next Sunday - fingers crossed for some wind!:)
