g0nz01599968659 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 A thread for everyone who flies in & around Southampton! Buggiers, boarders, kitesurfers, bladers & static flyers all welcome:) (about time I started one of these!!) Dan Quote
avspider Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I dunno, for once i'm busy due to the snow, and these dam drivers who can't drive properly and I miss starting the thread. Dan you going snow kiting this afternoon? Quote
T595 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I'm waiting for the wind to pick up. At the back of Lynne's mum and dad's place where we're staying during renovations of our hoose there is a massive field covered in powdered snow. Praying for decent wind later on so i can have a play, no snowboards allowed, planks only.... So much for an inter caravan party then..... and i'm not bloody walking between caravan sites. Quote

martin Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I had a hell of a laugh chucking myself down a hill on a sledge. There must have been 50 people there of all ages chucking themselves down this hill on whatever they could find. I've seen baby baths, road signs, roasting trays, fertilizer bags, est. agent boards. You name it, & someone was trying to break a limb on it. There was this big fat bloke in a plastic sand pit, hurtling down the hill towards kids trying to climb back up. He was wearing a high vis coat with "Keep Safe" written on his back:eek:. Made me laugh. Can't be bothered trying to dry a kite when the house is full of wet clothes trying to dry everywhere so i didn't go out. I'm going to Queens Parade on Sat for a SEKA event if anyone else wants to come along. The races are being organised a little different this year. You just pay for what you want to enter & there's a winner after each race, rather than waiting untill the end of the series. My Trophies look good on my fire place from last year:cool: . Mike Lowe has contacted me ref. Soton kite fest. Anyone else up for it? What i'd prefer is a traction area roped off where we can do our thang all day. Bin the arena display (unless the conditions are a lot better than before) as it's a little cramped & it's hard to produce anything worth looking at in a half hour time slot. If people want to watch traction then they have the oppotunity to view our arena throughout the day. Who's available to help out? Dear Martin, Just a quick note to inform you and SEKA about this years Southampton KIte Festival. This will be held over the weekend of the 20th./21st. June at Lordshill as usual. It would be great if SEKA can do the same as last year if that is OK, displays in the arena as well as your own tent/base. We will try to arrange timings a bit better this year, but as always happens, it tends to get made up as it goes along. There will be a 'runner' between the PA and displays/activities so it is hoped that we can stick roughly to a set timetable over the weekend. As soon as we have a final advertising leaflet/information, I will send a digital version through to you so you can forward it on as required. Regards, Michael Lowe. Secretary, Solent Kite Flyers. Event Organiser, Southampton Kite Festival 2009. Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted February 3, 2009 Author Report Posted February 3, 2009 Cool - All we have here is hail stones & melting snow... I won't be doing the SKF this time as it clashes with an event I'm doing at work. On the upside my new gloves arrived this morning! http://www.wetsuitoutlet.co.uk/images/Sola-Dry-Glove.gif like neoprene but waterproof for dry hands & a bit more flexible than my current ones! mmm toastie! Dan R Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 is anyone out and about tomoro? I wanna play out as footy is called off and could do with a few tips? Pieman, you looking for advice on boarding or kite flying? I'm looking to head out tomorrow too to give landboarding a go for the first time or at least get the kite out the bag! Might be worth two people trying to learn together. Only thing is I dont know of anywhere thats useable in a Northerly / North Westerly wind. Any one able to let me know where is good and how to get there please? Quote

martin Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 There's a few of us going to Queens Parade in Aldershot tomorrow, just under an hours drive. Huge field, probably still white but no issues of damaging the grass. It's going to be bloody cold though:eek:. http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat=51.266561&lon=-0.759387&zoom=16 . Quote
