@gum-nuts, how were your siderails modified?  I too would like to modify mine similar to yours.  Did you just purchase the pl wide axle and then have a shop add the extensions to the side rails?  Was the front end altered in any way?  How much did it cost to add the side rail extensions.  That looks like a perfect solution to making it more stable while keeping it light.  I'd seen your modifications before but have just now been more serious about it.

I was lucky as I was able to get the 140cm gigastrong axle second hand.

The side rails were extended by a local welder (an extra 30cm) and are double walled to add strength, he also made my original backrest. I can't remember how much I paid! You can buy longer side rails for the xr+ but in the end it was cheaper to go with the welder option.

Great mods @gum-nuts.... one part of buggying I have really enjoyed is modding up my buggies.

I've also added highway rated tyres as the others went through to the canvas...

And pimp my ride (that old back rest is gone!)

I really like the design and particularly the lightness of these buggies. A great all-round buggy.

If we ever get to Lake Lefroy that's a hard surface and causes lots of tyre wear as well Mark. It's like 60 grit sandpaper and you leave black marks if a tyre slides. Tyre wear is just a part of pushing hard.

yes, Lake Walyungup is only 7 minutes from home! Unfortunately it's mostly underwater at the moment! 

o yes will be for a while then as it dries out you have to watch out for breaking the crust because it stinks when it's wet. been there done that didn't fined a t shirt.

How is the axle attached?  I need to use the seat straps to keep the axle on - simple, hasn't fallen off (yet).  Is that part of the welder's modifications?
