  1. I'm pretty sure the google translator did a poor job of saying the bar was width adjustable and probably meant it came in two different sizes. Can't trust robots!
  2. In the interview I did with Gunnar and Marijn from Peter Lynn they stated that the Charger isn't going to replace the Synergy. So both will still be available. Different kites with different feel for different people. Try them both out and see what you like the best when the charger is released. I'm hoping to have a couple of each in my quiver.
  3. I found the switch to a zero7 new and confusing the first times I used it. I even hit the top hat once by accident and landed the kite. I think PL users are quite a smart group. If you don't like it to release that easy, change it. Go back to riding with a spinning spreader bar and attached leash with a different chicken loop. I think the Zero7 is a bar that offers alot more options to users that they complained about before like leash tangle. Gunnar's suggestion sounds like a super easy quick fix. I broke my pinky once on an Ozone safety release failure velcro lock. That stuff happens with any system. I think it comes down to that PL was meeting some standards and offering a spinning leash. If you don't think you can fly comfortably with that bar in fears you might hit the safety.. fly your ARC with a different bar. The Twin Skins will still treat you well even if you're not using a PL bar. I love the Zero7 now. Never have any problems, and with the tophat reversal trick I should be even better off. A.
  4. Yeah Malcolm is right. I took one of the Vio chickenloops and replaced the PL one on one of my older bars. Fit perfectly. Then you can hook your leash to the place the Vio ground control line hooks up to. Doesn't work as well on the newer Zero4 bars because the pin system is differnt though and just releases the chicken looping vs cutting the entire chicken loop away from you. Couldn't you just use a spinning whichard attached to your spreader bar though. Pull the main PL red safety for trouble and have the option of completly cutting it away from you by pulling the wichard? I'd think that would work ok too.
  5. Thanks for all the tips guys. I think I'll practice the exercises and get myself some decent braces for now since I too am also addicted to kiting. I do have flow bindings on my snowboard.. might get some dual use out of them now! Sad to hear it's taken some of you a really long time to heal properly. Guess now that I'm pushing 30 I don't bounce like I used to! A.
  6. I need advise from all the injured kiters! Almost a month ago I was jumping with my landboard trying to be cool I thought I'd kick a foot out. Well, one foot came out fine, the other stayed in the footstrap when I hit the ground and twisted the hell out of my ankle. Tore some ligaments. I can walk around on it now without a brace even though there is still swelling but I haven't kited in way too long and need to get back out there! Have any of you done any exercises to rehab the ankle? Do any of you kite with ankle braces to support ankles or prevent injury? I feel like it's gonna be a weak spot for quite sometime and snowkiting here is just gearing up too. Not as worried in a stiff snowboard boot, but any advice for rehab or future prevention? Thanks.
  7. I have a viosport cam that works awesome. I've taken it on many whitewater kayak trips and it works great. I bought a Pelican Case and drilled a small hole in the side of it. You run the wiring through that hole and then fill it using silicone. The wiring becomes a permanant fixture with the case, but I only use it for my recorder so no big loss. It works great and I've never had a leak. A.
  8. I have a 10M Venom I like to fly when it's nuking outside. It's really stable and turns like a race car. I recommend using a small bar with it. I was trying to use the same bar for my V19 and V10 and that made steering that fast little 10 pretty challenging. Before I got the V10 I was using an old 13M Bomba that worked pretty nice too. I think almost any smaller sized PL Arc would work good for you if you're looking for the gust stability but I do like the V10 alot. A.
  9. Brian. We spent the last weekend kiting on a sod farm here in Northern MN. We're no landkiting pros, just a bunch of kiters waiting for snow too. We were riding MBS cores, and comps, and GI Flight Lites and even my landyachtz bender. Aside from the weight of the boards, all of them got us out riding and jumping and having fun. I'd say since you're just starting go with something affordable yet sturdy and see how much you like it and how much time you'll spend on the board. You can always customize them too. Here's a link to some pictures of our weekend and you can see all of them in action: http://www.mnkiting.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=308 A.
  10. Ewing. Being in canada you could buy a true twip tip from Motz in CO for decent shipping. He sells them at his site: http://kitesnowboarder.com He's a great snowkiter with a DVD coming out soon so they can't be all bad and I'm sure he'd gladly tell you more about them. He's a really friendly guy. A.
  11. Last weekend we drove 12 hours to the southern part of Nebraska to hang out with Pelton Windsports, the North American Peter Lynn Distributor and his gang of sponsored riders. With only wind on one of the 3 days I wasn't able to get tons of video, but the stuff I did get was pretty good. Check it out at: http://www.mnkiting.com/videos/peterlynnparty.wmv Tim Wallace is an up and coming surf rider out of Santa Cruz and tore it up on his first flat water experience. If you're ever near Denver Colorado, this is a great spot to stop by and ride. http://www.mnkiting.com/lakemcconaughy.htm A.
  12. Ohh.. If it's just a new leash your looking for you could get one here: http://www.nsipadz.com/kitebar&access.html Scroll down to the middle of the page and they might have what you're looking for. A.
  13. Red Baron. I retro fitted my zero bar with a spinning shackle chicken loop like this one: http://www.scicable.net/~rudeboysaude/graphics/safety.gif you can attach your leash to the loop on the underside and the whole thing spins around at the shackle. If you pull the big red it activates the leash safety. If you want to completly cut yourself from the kite, you pull the shackle pin. Works good for harnesses without the PL spinning spreader bar and hasn't failed me yet. This one is from a Viokite which I believe you can get from dealers but I'm sure there are other brands making them too.
  14. Leadweight. I started learning on the water with a VR12 last summer and it did surprisingly well. If you had sandy beaches like you probably have they'd be a piece of cake to launch. I had to inflate mine with a leaf blower and drag it out onto the water past the trees. Still worked fine. If they sit on their trailing edge for too long water can leak through the 3 drain valves but it you have strong enough wind you can tip it back and forth to get the water out and launch it again. If I ever crashed it I tried to do it on the leading edge. It could sit on the water alot longer like that. A.
  15. I love the Viokites! I've owned ozones and flysurfers and way too many kites that cost way too much money before finding Vio. They do it all for me. We buggy with them, kite surf, and snow kite. I've got some poor videos and some pictures at www.mnkiting.com that you can check out. My first attempt at water kiting I used a VR12 and it relaunched well. I found that if you can crash them in the water leasing edge down you've got tons of time to do whatever you need to before worrying about relaunching. I've since picked up a mess of PL kites too. Comparing the two they both have strengths and weaknesses. The Arcs don't fly in light winds were as the Vios will. And for winter kiting, you can't beat the ease of setting up a foil vs the arc. The arcs take a little more technique when water relaunching (if you ever crash it) then the vios and actually the safety with the PLs and Vio is very similar is the total loss of kite power when it's pulled. The VR and Proteus kites can jump, but the Protean 2 is the way to go for that. I find the jumps on my Phantom 18 to be easier to pull off, but when you get dialed into the Protean2 they are great too. The arcs are incredible stable in the fact that they don't ever come out of the sky. You don't even need to steer them. The vios are as stable as any other foil but if you take a nap hooked into it, it won't be in the same place you left it as an arc would. With both Vios and Arcs to choose from now, It takes me more time to decide which kite I want to play with! They are both great kites and if I had no kites and had to choose between them, I guess it would come down to which one I can afford the most of!
