  1. Yep, Doz that was mine. A Peter Lynn Swivel Pully Spreader Bar - it was the last thing I expected to break. Just please I wasn't 3m off the ground. I have now purchased a Libre Arminator instead - works very nicely indeed.
  2. Thanks for all your replies - Cheers
  3. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website where I can read a bit about what type of boards are appropriate for different levels of kitesurf experience. What effect different widths and lengths of the boards have on rideability etc.
  4. I got home at 4am this morning - long trip home! Thanks guys for an excellent trip - great to meet you all - Hope to catch up with you later in the year. Wind is perfect for kiting today, but I might be pushing my luck if I go out today ! Kim
  5. I am pretty sure that has been done - probably need good breeze and large kite though!
  6. I have tried it with 100cm snowblades and skiboots on a sandy beach. It is good fun, but difficult gaining any headway upwind, so you often end up walking back. I have used both my 4m bladeII and my 13m Guerilla, both work well. I have reached speeds of about 20mph. However, I soon reallised it wa more fun with wheels Have a look at this link http://www.surf-wax.co.uk/gallery/photos/extreme_movies/kiteski.wmv good luck ...
  7. Thanks chaps (Geir and Richardyeo) for all you valuable comments. I would definately be interested in renting equipment in Iceland if that was possible and relatively convinient. I haven't checked prices on hiring ski stuff in this part of the country (Devon) yet. cheers
  8. I will definately be taking my GPS, and sticking together on longer treks across the ice is probably a wise move. Thanks for the write-up of your trip richardyeo - super stuff. Cheers
  9. I am taking my 13m Guerilla MkI and 4m Blade II and possibly a 2m or 3m Little Devil if the wind becomes completely silly . It may be worth planning a bit closer to the time what kite spares people are taking with then ... extra lines, chicken loops, repair tape etc. There is probably no point that we all take everything especially considering the 25 kg limit. It will be unlikely that we all break the same thing Invalid: If you get a kitewing I would love to have a go - the videos I have seen look awsome - the closest I've seen to "put a wing on your shoulder and fly"
  10. Thanks for the advice WoodyRew. Hadn't thought about the powder snow. I am very tempted about going the snow board root, but haven't got a board. I'll have to rent one or buy a board second hand if possible. I don't think I can warrent buying a completely new board and boots. I know that Jeff was saying he was going to Westward Ho! - I was up there Saturday - were you around then? I was flying my blue 4m bladeII in a Libre V-Max buggy and landboarding towards the end of the afternoon. Wind was measure to 22-25 mph and gusting to 30 mph - fantastic beach :D
  11. I have some old knackered snowblades 80cm and 100cm and ski boots to go with them. Problem is that I haven't tried them on snow yet only on hard packed sand on the beach. I am not sure how stable they would be at higher speeds (I am not an expert) but I love SPEED.
  12. Thanks - nice video. There are quite a few good videos in some of the other Snowkiting threads. This one is particularly good (http://www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/showthread.php?t=31730&page=1&pp=15)
  13. I've got the same problem - Don't know whether to choose skis or board. I've tried kite skiing on sand, with 100cm skis and proper ski boots. What I found was that the natural stance for skiing is to lean forward, which is a slightly different from the stance you need when kite skiing. When attached to the kite, you need to lean back a bit, but the ski boots restrict you slightly and it become somewhat more tiring. There is more friction when sand skiing so maybe one needs to lean back more than on snow. I haven’t tried snow kiting with snow board though, but I would expect it to very similar to land boarding (I am not an expert on land boarding). A real big advantage with snow board over skis for this trip to Iceland in particular, is that snowboard boots weight MUCH less than ski boots – and in the unlikely event that you need to walk in your boots, snow board boots would also be the preferred option. I don't have snow board so I'll probably rent one for the trip.
  14. I can definitely confirm that the price of food in Iceland is rather expensive - You can forget about your greens! - I have seen cucumbers at £3.50 a piece !!! You can buy some excellent trekking dry food packs in the UK which don't weigh a lot and you only need to add boiling water.
  15. Thanks mate Looking at some of those photos - the open expanses of undulating snow for miles and miles - just looks fantastic - can't wait.
  16. Just paid the deposit - all sounds very exciting
  17. I am very interested and have just posted you a mail to get the deposit instructions Cheers
  18. Thanks Jeffsnox for your comments. I am seriously considering it, but I'll read a bit more and get back to you. I have been to Iceland before and it is fantastic country. I was cycling round the country at the time, and one thing that was constant was the wind - at the time i cursed it, but now that I have a kite addiction I have learnt to cherrish the wind :D Cheers
  19. Sounds very tempting this trip - Are the people going on this trip taking all their own gear with them (snow boards, skiis, boots etc.) What are the weight restrictions on the flight? When is the closing date for this trip? With the current number of people going what price are we looking at? Cheers
  20. I use a pair of leather garden gloves - they may not look super cool - but they are very strong and don't let you down when you are belly scudding and determined not to let go of your precious kite
  21. Totally agree - and with the visual record of your track you can navigate back to were you lost your car keys last time you OBE'ed ! :D :D
  22. I use my LD 2.1m up to around 35mph. If I have it hooked into my harness I can still control gusts slightly higher than this. I once flew it when the wind gusted to 43mph (anemometer measurement) from an average of app. 30 mph and this picked me (80kg) straight off the ground and I flew horizontally through the air until eventually executing class act belly scud
  23. Hi DaveN I also have a Prolimit seta harness and very quickly after bought a Peter Lynn roller bar second hand - I then swap between the roller bar and the original spreader bar depending on which kite I fly - I think this works OK. Cheers
  24. Thanks mate - I have tried Haldon race course - The location is not suitable for all wind directions and as far as I am aware there are still issues with permission. A chap on the forum (Sunset) is the one to talk to about this Cheers
  25. Cheers mate - I was up at Westward Ho! on Saturday - wind was excellent - tried out my new tandem kit construction to attach a Peter Lynn buggy to a Libre V-Max (http://www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/showthread.php?p=454818#post454818) I have also looked at westwardwind website - looks good - and excellent work for avoiding a total ban at Westward Ho! Do you meet up regularly at the Ho (Northam Burrows)?
