Yes, the whole idea of putting your foot into the straps while hanging onto a 4.9m is a bit daunting, especially for the first time. I had my first go last Sunday and can safely say that is isn't as bad as you think.
My observations :
- Get body armour - it gives you much more confidence with putting your feet in those straps.
- If your using handles, just some kite killers. You can leave go of the bar without worrying about your kite.
- It's better to fall backwards rather than on your face, so use the kite for balance , bend those knees and lean backwards a little. If the Blade does pull like a bas***d, then just keep leaning. In the event the Blade decides that it's going to give you "lift", you'll have time while in full flight to take your feet out of the straps
- To slow down just turn upwind and the kite to take the power out of it, once the power's out of the kite, take it overhead. to stop. And to get going again, head downwind to start, and once going start turning upwind to keep your ground.
I had a go with my Skytiger 26 which was much easier to control, but I did notice that because it doesn't give much lift, is was much harder to balance. Thinking of buying a 3m Blade for a while just to get the hang of it - or maybe I should just buy more body armour.
