hi there, i used to live in Brockenhurst, (boring fact..Hollands Wood is named after my great great grandad) Anyway, i regularly fly at Brockenhurst still. Sites are.....
1. Whitefield Moor: Left out of Hollands Wood, turn right at The Careys Manor hotel, head up Grigg Lane till x-roads. Take right, through village then right at the watersplash. Follow this rd all the way about a mile until you see open forest both sides of you. Whitefield Moor car park is on the right, not the first right, but the 2nd. Has toilets and icecream van! Can get a little busy with horses etc, but a lot of space.
2. Even better, Wiverly Plain: Same route as above until the watersplash at the end of Brock village, but then turn left instead of right. Follow this rd about 3 miles, lots of windy roads and bends through trees but stay on them untill you get to the top of the hill. Turn right and you will see a couple of carparks at Wilverly. Gets busy at left end with tourists, has toilets and the usual horses etc. Worth taking a look at some of the New Forest kiting threads though as there has been a few moans lately.
Good luck and hope u enjoy Brock, The Foresters is probably the best pub around there, left out of campsite, follow rd until just before level crossing. Snake catcher on the left, Foresters over the rd on the right.
Hope this helps,
Brewz
P.S: If u have kids and like all the other tourists, decide to paddle/swim in the Balmer Lawn river..........the cows sh*t in it regualary!!!
