  1. Cool looking kite. It would be a nice addition to the bag. :-)
  2. Has anyone made some minor adjustments to their Haka bridle in order to change its flying characteristics at all? The kite is a little rough to launch in all but the upper wind range. Would adding a knot in the main lines (shorten them) change the angle of attack and improve performance? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. I bought a 5m Haka which I have written a review that I need to post. As a beginner to the sport I have nothing to compare the kite to. However in lower (sub 12) winds it is difficult to launch and does require constant input by the user. However at 15mph + the kite seems to be a littler easier to fly and has loads of power.
  4. I Purchased a Black Diamond Momentum AL harness, a Petzl Mini Pully and a Wichard quick release. http://www.bdel.com/gear/momentum_al.php http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442594787&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302885254&bmUID=1187026758419 http://www.kitesurfari.com/store/wichard.html
  5. I also have a bad lower back. The disk in between the vertabrates is almost non existant. I started flying about a month ago using a climbing harness with out it causing any (more) back pain. Good luck!
  6. The highest winds I have flown in so far have been 15mph. That was the same day that pic was taken. It pulls pretty well and starting to show signs of lift. At those wind speeds a harness seems to be a must. At least for me anyway.
  7. I only fell once.
  8. They open a little differently. The guy at Kitesurfari said: "The Ronstan Shackle would occasionally catch the chicken loop, preventing it from releasing fully." I have heard it both ways now. I will just keep my gear clean and hope it works when called upon. (Ronston is on the bottom) I did hook into my harness for the first time today. Although I am stil awaiting the pully and the shackle I figured what the heck. *shrugs* Anyway, it made my day of flying much more enjoyable. I can't do that to often though. I already wore the anodizing off the caribiner.
  9. I picked up an issue when I placed an order with Mistralkites.com. I wish the mag had a web site it would be nice to be able to purchase a subscription online. In todays world it seems a must for a business to have web site.
  10. Good news. Kitesurfari.com was out of the Ronstan Shackle so I switched it with a Wichard. http://www.kitesurfari.com/store/wichard.html
  11. Hey All! I flew my 5 meter Haka yesterday in 12mph wind according to my meter. That thing pulls like a train! AS a newbe I see what some of you are refering to about how the kite likes to be moving. After inflating it the kite likes to turn sideways and go, go, go. I also starting to see some lift from the kite at this wind range. Although I haven't figured how to harness the lift yet I see the potential. I notice the kite will turn well without brake input but when that gets moving I like to add some brake to pivot the kite. I do notice a loss of power when I do that though. You guys are talking about trimming the kite..... What is the standard way to trim it for better performance?
  12. A good point with oil collecting dirt. Maybe a dry lubricant such as graphite like used on pinewood derby car wheels would be a good option.....
  13. Thanks for the info. I am getting to old to try things that are to crazy. I was out flying the beast today in 12mph wind and that thing was taking me for a ride. It wears me out quickly. Hopefully my harness will show up in a couple days so the next time I fly I can hook in. At least I will be able to fly longer before I get fatigued.
  14. Well I guess I am stuck with it for now. I will make sure to test it under a load to see how it does. Do you guys recommend adding a little oil on the hinge and realese points to ensure they don't stck?
  15. Hey Guys! Well I figured with about 8 or so years flying stunt kites including a Rev it wouldn't be to much of a learning curve to get into power. With a limited budget (only wanting/afording one kite) and the wind in Spokane WA averaging 8-10 mph I needed a kite that would pull. I must say I was nervous about getting a 5 meter after hearing what everyone was saying on the boards but it isn't that bad... :-)
  16. Oh no! I ordered a Ronstan Quick Release shackle. It looks very similar to the one above. Will it work ok? http://www.kitesurfari.com/store/ronstan.html
  17. The new guy here is entertained thats for sure. :clapping:
  18. Hey Everyone! I just purchased my first power kite a month ago. It is a 5 meter Haka and so far I am loving it. Since I am a newbe to power kiting I have been flying in lighter winds to get used to how the kite handles. After a couple sessions in 15mph winds I decided a harness is a must. I also decided to go with a climbing harness and will be using a quick release shackle in case i need to let my killers take over. The harness should arrive in the mail in a couple days.
  19. Thanks for the nice review. I planning on picking up a Riot 5m soon and it is good to here how well it performs. Maybe in the next couple of years I will be purchasing one of their paragliders and getting some really good air.
