  1. In the immortal words of Billy Connelly, 'No such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothes'. You can use a mobile on the boardwalk or out on the main beach. I was down on Sat and saw them flying on Shallow Inlet. Cheers Kem
  2. Did you try the Shallow Inlet Caravan Park $8per night, or just Sandy Point $45/night. Other option is free camping on Cape Liptrap at Bear Gully. Cheers Kem
  3. Real land yachts are toys too, just like your gear. Just big, heavy and slow to turn and acclerate compared with Blokart's. Speaking from experience sailing them both. A Blokart (puffkart) will spin 1080's at 70 and reach 90 in 30kts. Then I can pack two in the boot of my car in 5mins. The big f@#k'rs can't do that or turn within 30metres for that matter. Not much fun on beaches like Shallow Inlet. Put downs get come backs. Look forward to some big winds for your trip to Sandy Point. Some of you may even keep up with Gav, Nigel and myself. Cheers Kem
  4. 75.3 km/h was the top blokart speed, with 100km's covered in 3hrs, including stops, when it was on. On the Saturday in 20-25kts, Nigel had me on a gust downwind, but I thrashed him upwind. Most of the time there was stuff all in it, didn't see any others get close. Blokarts excel in more wind than that, ideally 2m rig in 30+knots, with my pb's set in 50kts. Very impressed with your efforts though guy's, esp. Joel 's specky aerials. So guess the moral of the story is that if you want to go faster in under 30kts or fly, get a buggy. Look forward to some racing down the track, just remember to stay downwind. See you there. Cheers Kem
  5. Thanks to all who made it down. Glad you had a blast. Sorry we didn't hang in longer, once we'd completed the Waratah 100, yep 100km's in 2.5hrs, everyone was in need of a hit of caffeine and other elixers. Congratulations to Nigel on his top speed of 83.7km/h. Nigel can you please PM me with you last name so I can get the engraving done and let me know when your down next to collect your gong. Next time it would be great to have you join us in a race, as lots of blokarters felt they were passing the buggys and it would be good to put them on a course and find out. See you there. Cheers Kem
  6. 'Speedweek' will finish at 5pm Sunday, i'll let the results out then. See you Saturday! We will have a presentation at the Cafe where the trophy is going to sit above the bar. A free camp site is at Bear Gully, on Cape Liptrap 30mins from beach. Or just car camp in Shallow Inlet, extended fishing session we could call it. On Saturday we are running the 'Waratah 100', yep 100km's non stop. It will be over 10laps of a 10km course out onto the point. It will kick off at 1.30pm, all welcome to join or you can chase the best direction for speed. Cheers Kem
  7. Yep I agree, Nigel. Speedweek will kick off at 7am Saturday, we'll do registrations at the end of the session at the cafe due to the early tide and wind. Monday , Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be lay days, due to lack of wind. If anyone is coming down on any of these days please give me a call and I will get down there. The tide times that we will be running are; Saturday 6.45am - 12.45pm Sunday 8.15am - 2.15pm Friday 12.30pm - 6.30pm Saturday 1.30pm - 7.30pm Sunday 2.30pm - 5pm Finish to present 'The Gongs' at the Cafe. Cheers Kem http://www.landsailingvictoria.com 0429782687
  8. Don't worry, it's all good just spicing it up. Adding a few alternatives/challenges for the less windy days. The 'go to whoa' and tag will be setup on a controlled course and we'll stay out of others on the beach, if they don't want to play. Like i'll leave the jousting for others. We will also be holding a 100km enduro race on a 10km lap for those who want to race, the date will be set as we get closer to forecasts. With 15km's of beach there's plenty of space for all. But we'll be shooting DVD all week, so feel free to give us a hand to film it, or wave a flag. We've been running blokarting events here for 5years without any problem's or injuries, even though it sounds dangerous to the uninitiated, but we look out for each other, safety first, then fun. Cheers Kem http://www.landsailingvictoria.com 0429782687
  9. That's just lack of skill/experience. $10 says I can stop quicker than your buggy at 60km/h. We keep our speed checked in the same way, with a bit of oversteer or a 'Finnish Flick', but for a complete stop the 180 is instant, not swinging around on 30ft of lines. Or we can just push our sail into the wind to slow up or stop. Sounds like a go to whoa might be the go to test it. Cheers Kem
  10. It's cool. Jousting yee ha, for the consenting adults. Dave and I often play blokart tag for a bit of a laugh. Just got to watch the approach speed so you push them, and not run over them. We could play that if your up for it. The Saturday is looking primo at this stage, see you there. Cheers Kem
  11. Your missing the point. Keep your lines away from other competitors or stay away. Rigging it for my advantage, I don't fly kites. Get in a blokart if you want to beat me on a level playing field, good luck. Seperate classes As for giving a demo, yes I do free demo's, that's how I feed my family. No I don't carry a breathaliser, as people enjoying the beach often drink. I don't remember anyone getting hurt, do you. Cheers Kem
  12. Happy for some friendly banter and don't care what you fly, but for those that don't quite understand. If you endanger or get in the way of another competitor, in an any other class in any way, you will be disqualified from the event, at the discretion of the stewards. For those who don't know the rules. When a blokart and kite are approaching, the Buggy and kite should always be downwind of the blokart. This way if either is on their flyer for the week they won't have to depower. Remember your in a different class, Iron Duck was a land yacht that went over 160km/h but we don't compare with that either. Cheers Kem http://www.landsailingvictoria.com 0429782687 P.S If any Kite suppliers want to donate a prize for the Kite Class, it would be much appreciated, otherwise we will sort one. The Gongs are at the engravers.
  13. $1500, about the same as good Kites. Go the 5.5m for the winds of 15kts though. Remember it has an airframe (yep frame) made of aircraft aluminium and skin is mono. Bought a hangglider or Windsurfer rig lately? They are a quality piece of kit and very precise to fly. Each to their own. Cheers Kem
  14. Good luck, Put your lines near me and i'll drag you on your arse up the beach, head first and backwards. With my arms folded. Remember always stay down wind on the pass so you can stay on the power and we will in turn stay upwind (smells better too). Bring on the 50knots and lets see the bullshit stop then. Cheers Kem http://www.landsailingvictoria.com 0429782687 P.S Remember your $30 and your GPS if you want a chance to bang the gong.
  15. Hey Guy's, Good to see your plans are moving along. I scored the trophies yesterday. Went with gongs , so we'll 'Bang the Gong at the Prom' for years to come, along the lines of ringing the bell. I got 5 smaller Gongs for each class, Performance and Production Blokarts above and below 85kgs and Kite Class. As well as a large Gong that will live at the Sandy Point Cafe with the overall quickest Blokart Pilot and Kite Pilot engraved each year for prosterity. To cover the trophy, prize and engraving costs, all those that want to compete for bragging rights will need to chuck in $30 each. Registration will be on the Saturday morning at the Sandy Point Cafe from 8.30am. If you don't catch me there than have a go at catching me out on the beach in AUS456 (red blokart). See you there.
