Now you really have to fly your kite to be a true road buggier.

I used to do it regularly.

The tyres really stick on the tarmac and squeal like a pig when you get going.

Oh by the way, it's illegal to have a wheeled vehicle on the road here without proper registration. Somehow, I don't think the Road traffic Authority would allow me to get my buggy registered because it hasn't any brakes for a start.

Sorry no vids but just a couple of pics taken by the Mrs. in 2003 as she followed us down the road.

The Sp crew had a serious think about the M6 Toll road when it was being built but the access to good tarmac bits didn't make for a quick get away!

Also a need for flying on 10 - 15m lines to get under bridges LOL.

but if anybody knows of any new roads being built by them, shout out

There's a runway in the middle of the Airboss airfield. With the wind in the right direction the speeds are awesome ! Full Body armour recommended !

You can't go on the tarmac unles you have full body armour - it's mandatory.

The York Landyachting club allow kite buggies to join in their sessions at Elvington airfield by prior arrangement (2 mile long concrete strip , where Hammond crashed the dragster). You can fly the kite over the grass at the side and buggy on the concrete, but as Trikbitz said, don't try to slide on the concrete cos its very grippy.

carl ,its ok if you know the run off is smooth, alot of this airfield grass is really lumpy with the occasional pothole which wiil bounce you out before you know it, which i suppose is softer than tarmac. The acceleration though is so good, try it see how you get on, but you can't beat a bit of hard sand.

I've been watching this thread for a while now .

I did some buggying on the road quite some time back but thought I ought to do a bit to show you what it's like, so last weekend I ran out to where a road has been laid.

It's a funny place. This sealed road ends in a rough track. I started from the track end and ran on to the sealed road. I didn't have the camera rolling on my first run, which was a pity as I was going a lot quicker. It's incredible how the tyres stick on the tarmac (keep in mind I have BF's).

A slight movement on the footpegs makes an almighty scary twitch on the buggy.

I ran off the road fairly quickly and hit a pile of heaped up sand and flipped the buggy.

This vid. is my second run (Made last Saturday afternoon) and I was a lot more cautious. Running off this tarmac road is a bit dodgy as it drops down a step and sometimes there are rocks and piles of sand that one can run into. I chose carefully where I exited the road on to the sand here.

I suppose if I did it regularly, I would get used to it and manage a lot better.

However, I don't plan to do to much tarmac riding what with all the other stuff I have to ride on.

This bit of vid is rough and part of a vid that I'm currently editing but is just a preview of what road buggying is like.

I have had an idea as regards a site down the road from where I live... AFAIK there is no restrictions on the site, there's interesting terrain aswell.

Gonna wait til my ankle's repaired before borrowing someones buggy and giving it a (underpowered) first go.

Not wanting to say too much yet, but expect some mad vid!
