I only use a seat at the mo, i've got a waist (maui magic dark rider) but find it so uncomfortable pulling my ribs up through my mouth:eek: I find the seat well comfortable but understand that the waist will give more freedom of movement, Im thinking of giving the waist another try though.

Switched to the waist a month ago and after about 4/5 sessions it felt OK, def more movement easier toe side etc, but I like to ride powered and mainly blast and jump, and for this I found the waist far more effort and had constant back ache after a session. I have now fixed my old Fussion and used it for the last 3 sessions all well powered and jumps are much better and my back is fine.

If your into blasting/jumping the seat is good ...waves go waist

Ive just gone back to the shorts harness after a month trying to adjust to a waist, general riding isnt much different, toe side is alot easier but my timing was all wrong and I wasted too many sessions trying to get used to it, really just so I could wear different board shorts!!!! I have had the most epic sessions since Sunday and am happy to be back in my shorts harness.

Well I gave the waist harness a go today and it was rubbish, far too uncomfortable, didn't notice any change in stance and felt unsure slightly over powered. Changed to the seat and over powered was really comfi:D think i'll sell the waist.

tried 3 waist types and sold them quickly, ruddy things were truely superb for walking around and jumping over beach logs,

but they hurt

ow ow ow, ribs and lungs squished to big hurt levels, nearly had the thing under my arms on big wind days,

pile of poo for me, again!!!

i wish i could wear one and love it as they feel great when not sailing

i have been using the 07 da kine fusion seat type and the padding is so extreme i hate it, can't walk straight!!

the lighter built fusion seat is on it's way to me as we speak, it better be good as they are not cheap

Waist is so much better. The only way that a seat is more comfy is if you don't have a proper fitting waist harness. Go to a shop and try some harnesses out to see what fits you. They have ropes to hang from to see what the harness feels like. The prolimit AH doesn't move and when u jump it feels like ur just floating. Having a higher centre of gravity gives u much better stance too and keeps you away from the dreaded "on the loo" style. Also I found that with a seat harness I had more trouble getting the board on my feet as could not bend my legs that well. Waist wins.

Reading Colins post reminded me of me mate Fwank. Overpowered one day on his new waist harness, it started to rise promptly crushing his ribs and diaphram. The poor bstrd nearly passed out thro lack of air. I nearly passed out thro laughing at him. :D

Well it was my first day today wearing a waist harness

I bought the Aaran Hadlow Prolimit one too but i felt it a big change from going from the Dakine Fusion harness and the Nitrous shorts!

It felt really weird and felt like everytime i tried a jump it was wrenching me forward and up.

When i jump, i tend to always tuck my legs up to my chest, (duno why.. maybe to make it look like im higher:rolleyes: ) but today i felt like my whole body was being slung forward and up but nowhere near as controlled as when i wear my seat harness!

When i was just plaining, i suppose i did feel like i had a better stance but holding down alot of power is alot harder than on with the seat harness!

My timing on jumping was also off, i could normally lean back abit more with the seat harness and 'wang' it to 12 and up i go, but with the waist it felt it wanted to boost me a milisecond before i was ready! )god knows why?)

I will persevere with it though and see how i get on! ;)

yeh, stick with it bud. it sepends on ur style of riding and the aspect of ur kite and lots of other factors of course.

For example i was out last week in manic winds with teh 7m waroo and for me in these conditions i spent a lot of time with the kite high up in the window and the harness can rise up a little. But ur body gets used to all that if u give it time.

whereas if i am out on me vertigo 12m the kite is so low in the windw most of thje time and i am also well back in my stance that the harness stays right on the waist the whole time.

Flexiblilty is key and this is where the waist wins out and balance too -since u have more movement to flex around.

My lower back does hurt a tad from time to time but i am not going back in aq hurry -so much happier with the wasit harness - feel like a real kitesurfer now and u can wear shorts correctly now thankfully so it is fashionable too and we are suppossed to be in summer after all.

so i say give it a month and review it then.

have too agree with everything that doc says on land i used to be on a seat and climbing harness untill end of last yr when i got a pyro .it took me quite a while to get used to riding with it .it changed my center of gravity and made jumping and landing feel very strange ,i always thought i was gonna crash out .

but after riding for a while on it ,im not looking back.deffo worth sticking with it !!!!!

I don't know if it's anything to do with the price you pay for a harness, but I bought the Maui Magic Darkrider and the padding looks quite comfi but my seat harness is a Peter Lynn that I paid 50 quid for, it's got alot less padding but it's sooo comfi, also I never find that it pulls too hard between my legs:eek: certainly never had crushed nuts syndrome

i have just got the da kine storm seat harness as the fusion is just far to bulky, the storm is about half the weight and feels so much better, i can even walk straight and bend backwards, the fusion had me bending forward all the time, queer sort of stance realy

anyways the webbing and clips are just the same great quality, lighter for aircraft charges as well £7/kilo

Get a good waist that fits it will take a few sessions to get used to but I will never go back, the prolimit hadlow 06 is the most comfortable harness I've ever worn, it never rides up and gives so much support. Highly recomended.

As others have stated before it makes it far easier to get into the proper stance having pull from higher up is also nicer. everything with a waist is easier and comfier. my 2 cents

i just wish i could, even when i was very light and windsurfing i wanted one to work, i am not the right sort of shape,

i was made in the Isle Of Man, that bulge you see in the middle lower bit of my seat harness is my 3rd leg:)
