sharpey1 Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Hello all I'm just wandering about people's opinion on something I was thinking about today why I was flying my 6m JoJo. How do JoJo stack up against the new ozone yakuza or even the old razor pound for pound in a straight line which would come out on top and I know there's lots of things to take into consideration such as pilot ability weight and probably a lot more things. I know people say about how they tangle and fallout of the sky. But to be honest I have a 6m and an 8m I would say that I find them more stable than the razor. For stability I would compare them to a pkd century. But getting back to the question identical pilots identical bug's in a straight line which would your money be on Quote
JoJo1 Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 The JoJo all day long is my opinion for sure. The new JoJo RM + is a bit better than a regular rm in my opinion also. I have the whole set of the Rm+ kites and I would not fly anything else even if they were given to me for free! The Rm+ is an amazing kite solid in the sky and almost scary fast definately not a kite for the timid unless you don't fly the kite in the winds it was intended for then they are not to scary which is what I see most people flying them, but then you put the kites up in the right winds and they are the bugatti veryon of kites for sure nothing is faster in the right hands. I have played with the yakuza and they were decent kites, but I would bet my pink slip against one every time. Big John JoJo1:D Quote
Simon Bailey Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 John, I shall accept your challenge ("in the right winds and they are the bugatti veryon of kites for sure nothing is faster in the right hands") and next time I grace the colonies with my presence I shall endevour to alter your view of JoJo's - when compared to my race tuned, modified, Mark 1 PKD Combats...pmsl :D:D:D:D My opinion, the JoJo's would outpace the Yak on a long enough broad reach - in the same way that Combats can. The downside to this is that Yakuzas have much better low end performance and will normally leave Combats, RM's etc out of a corner. Quote
DickDasterdly Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 i have a 4m jojo rm and i love it to bits!!!! Can't compare it to any other racekite as i havent flown any others, but the 4m is brill, very fast and flown on 20m lines, i'm actually in the process of buying a 6m rm as i love them!!!! Before i do buy a 6m any set up tips?? Decent wind range for a light buggier?? thanks DD Quote
jellis Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Simon I am eagerly awaiting your arrival and have my stock factory JoJoRM+'s ready. Upwind or down, broad reach or beam reach. I really don't want your kites when you lose to the great upwind performance and the exceptional fast deep beams of the JoJo RM+ with the greatest stability. If you are concerned about initial speed at the start try moving the foil to generate power? jellis Quote

Of course, U-Turn Butanes in the right hands can whup the ass of any JoJo!! As for Combats.. well, they're like hens teeth and just as rubbly. I'll get my coat. Quote

8015 Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Well with 2 people on this thread looking at buying some of my old RMs I should try and remain impartial, the 4m is a great kite though! I'm not even sure if the Nitro can really pace the original RM upwind, pretty certain nothing else does, although I got nowhere with them downwind. If I don't seem too bothered about selling my RMs it's because I love them and could just keep them as spares. With the run of bad luck I've had recently it's quite possible that I could trash a Nitro in a race Tuffty, what's your problem with Firewire bridles? I have them on 10 of my kites although I won a national series* race on one of the few kites still with an interim bridle I don't think they are that are rare, I know I'm not the only one with them! Simon Bailey Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 U-Turn...Pah...I shall have to prove to the great unwashed the pure power that is the...HQ Symphony!!!! Quake all that come before it!! jellis...I regulary race against RM+ in the UK (Dave Scott), and at the World Championships they were plentiful. Strangley enough, it was Yakuza's that came out on top! Whilst I agree that RM & RM+'s are quick, the MK1 Combats are, once they have built enough apparent wind, astonishingly fast. In standard trim, they are appaling downwind and suffer from very poor low speed performance. On mine, I've removed the brake bridles completely and re-bridled the wingtips, which gives them superb downwind performance and more low end grunt. As for moving the foil when coming out of a corner...thanks, i'll bear that in mind Quote

burgy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Big Jon & Mr jon Ellis in one post, how cool is that? You boys still flying the JoJo flag then still think about how well you guys treated me & gray, might even make it back there one day, you still haven't made it over here yet you know. all the best boys Steve SBBB 2003 (actually I cant beleive it was that long ago Quote

I believe the same people flying the yaks were on the Libre team before they were handsomely paid to fly the excuses (yaks) and even then, I heard they rebrided the foils and told everyone they were factory set-ups, so the foil you bought was not the same foil they flew. It sounds like your foils do not come tuned very well either if you have to rebridle them. Chris b when will you get into Las Vegas for NABX so you can see what JoJo's do in my hands........ Burgy, Yes we are still fly the JoJo & Libre flags because I haven't seen any speeds faster than 72.8 mph yet. LOL Luk has bigger cahonas than we do so he will hang on to that speed record for a while I guess. We have been using the new pulley handles with great success, better upwind and quicker turning etc etc. We sure had a great time when you guys came over to NABX, but you never came back. Was it something Eli said? LOL Take care and hopefully we will see you at the worlds cup this year. jellis PS all in fun boys....................................................... Quote
Chris k333 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 haha nice to see all pilots giving in their two pennys about which kite is best aka their kite. Last race i was in the only kite to give me competition was the combat..jo jos where not a thing to worry about even in the hands of what i consider a very excellent pilot. But yea jojos are cheaper? so yea.. but if you want the truth... yaks are number one. because of their over all score. not just one part its the whole part that makes a kite a good kite. but i fly ozone.. so what can you expect from me? Chris k333 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 As for moving the foil when coming out of a corner...thanks, i'll bear that in mind haha can you move a kite that much when so over powered like every time i have raced against you so far haha...no need with the size you use ! >. Aids Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 U boys seen anything other than a Yak's win any major title in the last 2 years...... But when it comes down to it, the fastes kite is the one attached to a brainless pilot. Quote

Besides doesn't YAK sound like what a cat does when he hacks up a hair ball? jellis the yanks are coming, so move out of the way...................................... Quote
JoJo1 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Steve B what is up my brother it has been a while since I have talked with you. How have you and G. Steel been? I would sure like to make it over for a World race one of these days. I just have yet to be able to make room for the time I would have to have for a trip over there. There is way to many places I would have to go especially Amsterdam which of course you know this:D . Simon I would gladly accept your challenge and would probably even give you a head start or run backwards given the kites you r claiming r the best haha. Would you like to come to our dry lake where we set the World Speed record or would you like smooth winds from one of our beachs:) Big John JoJo1 Quote
Simon Bailey Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Aid...thick but quick...lol John..Right, where's my passport - I'll take Beaches for starters (as long as there is beer ) then we can work on the dry lake beds for sheer lunacy To give Aid's statement some validation (however much it grates me!), Yaks have the advantage of being good all-rounders. i.e. not particulary magical in any particular aspect, but good generally. Whereas more aggressive race kites (Combats, RM+, Nitro's) are stunning in certain key aspects, but lack in other areas - as with all things it's a compromise. I have to admit, I feel a trip to the colonies is in order to put down this rebellion before it gains too much momentum!...anyone up for it? - Pan-American Challenge Quote
isaacb Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 "Last race i was in the only kite to give me competition was the combat..jo jos where not a thing to worry about even in the hands of what i consider a very excellent pilot." And where did the jojo's, combats etc come into it in the race before that ........ lol Quote
8015 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 You guys have NABX on the wrong dates or I'd be there! I'm kayaking the Grand Canyon on the 7th of May so flying out to Vegas on the 5th - if you just had NABX scheduled for the preceeding week instead of a month earlier I'd be able to combine the 2. Mind you, I'm not sure that I'd want a 70mph wipeout on the concrete-like lake bed a few days before a 2 week wilderness paddle, maybe it's for the best! I presume if I make it in the future I will be able to borrow some old RMs Jim Quote
Mouthwash Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I'll be in Arizona/Nevada/Utah between 19th May - 1st June. No buggy though.... Quote
sharpey1 Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Sorry to interrupts but getting back to my question I take it that on the rm+ to improve performance there has to be a downside and does this mean that it loses some of its stability Quote
BigBlondeBug Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 As for moving the foil when coming out of a corner...thanks, i'll bear that in mind haha can you move a kite that much when so over powered like every time i have raced against you so far haha...no need with the size you use ! >. Are you a foreign immigrant struggling with our language ? A translation would be nice. Quote
BigBlondeBug Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 JoJo RM+ by far the best kite pound for pound, straight off the shelf better than anything else. You can tweak your racing Yaks all year long, I would keep the JoJo NO BRAINER. Quote
