HOUSE Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Dropping down page 2 eh Have virtually finished the back seat for the cuda so must get some pics on here. Quite pleased with it but I need a good size rubber block to fit between the seat and the back axle. At the moment have chopped up Wifey's foam-rubber garden kneeler but it looks a bit Heath Robinson:D I am making waves with the new buggy, ....notice the last two pics....all part of the trial and error....but I have to say I was GUTTED:mad: sneak preview http://pic7.piczo.com/Popeyethewelder/?g=44299951&cr=7 Blimey............you've put some work into that Carl! I'm not surprised you are gutted. I've spent some time imagining how the suspension will work and always ended up thinking - surely the seat is going to tilt towards the kite. It'll be very interesting to see how you overcome it. I should think the trailing arms have to have loads of travel to take rough ground but at the same time the suspension can't travel too far with just your weight on board, otherwise there's no give left. As ever the work looks top notch:D Hope you suss out how to rectify it soon
HOUSE Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 The video was on the middle section betwwen the 2 water streams. The bottom section nearest the sea was not as smooth. The usual high drag was wide and flat smooth... We didn't bother with any kites. There was one guy turning up with a buggy as we left. No other kiters.....but they were racing motor bikes near the town. I think I'd have stayed to watch the buggy in that sandstorm Paul. What was he going to fly - a hanky on a string?
bungle Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 have a look at the gas shocks used in office chairs they are adjustable for the persons weight and will hold at the set weight
mole Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Can you use some kind of threaded bar and spring set up so the pressure is adjustable. Hard to describe without pictures.
popeyethewelder Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 have a look at the gas shocks used in office chairs they are adjustable for the persons weight and will hold at the set weight Not a bad idea Bungle, http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/locking-rigid.php I have been looking at them, http://www.stabilus.com/drehstuhl/englisch/produkte/som_sob_varianten_beispiel_6.asp and I think welding and fixing them may prove a problem....they do look ideal though, I'll say that much but I have made my mind up on using an adjustable threaded bar set up.....I want to keep everything stainless and blingy Mole....I know mate its hard describing things like that, I know what you mean though Not surprised you didn't get the kites out Paul...I had an inkling it may have been too much

HOUSE Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Been thinking about your design Carl. Looks like the suspension units are too horizontal and therefore they don't have to move that much before the struts are parallel to the ground. Is there no way that you can run the rails back up to a higher horizontal bar and then mount the springs nearer to vertically underneath with the trailing arm connected under. I imagined that the rear wheels would be canted in when the bugs at rest and then splay out to straight or canted out when under load. With the right suspension units, 6 inches of travel at the spring should give you a foot or more at the rear wheel. Is there any mileage in a font fork with struts a bit like a mountain bike and the footpegs welded to the outer case? You've probably thought of these things but no harm in running the ideas past you
windjammer1599968715 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 @ carl think you need to put some kind of linkage before the spring to make it more of a progressive action, the more pressure is put on the spring the harder it gets. my mountain bike has a dog bone link on the frame to ramp up the shock and make it stiffer as i put more load on it
popeyethewelder Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 @ carl think you need to put some kind of linkage before the spring to make it more of a progressive action, the more pressure is put on the spring the harder it gets. my mountain bike has a dog bone link on the frame to ramp up the shock and make it stiffer as i put more load on it I cant see what your shock is doing Matt...Thing is I have really gone off the idea of shocks on the rear....for now lol, and am going to make the top rail fixed with and adjustable ride height, bit boring I know, but you would be surprise on how much the front suspension unit makes the whole buggy springy.... Simon, its quite a complicated formular, well for me anyway, its all to do with leverage, the 06 Fandango only had 400lb springs on and that was more than enough, the way this was set up it would need springs around the 1500lb mark

HOUSE Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I see some easterlies in the 2 week forecast but they are dodging around by the hour. I'll believe it when it happens but have 11 days holiday left to take so bring it on:D Carl - this weekend's wind forecast has changed about 15 times in the last 4 days. Still can't tell for sure where it will be.
