im not sure if it is finalised yet, goshen said to contact kitepower on the saturday (via website or phone) just in case there is a last minute shift in location.

More important is the weather forecast!!!

Only reason for going to Belmont is if the grass is to long. :(

Currently looking like a light Northerly for Sunday, big kites all round?

Might get a sea breeze??

Geelong Kite Club day: Sunday 13th November.

The Event has been scheduled for DK Grant Reserve, Altona. Approx 12 noon-4 pm. It's not going to be a race, but a kiting free-for-all.

Another great chance to catch up with fellow flyers, meet new people, fly new kites, and more.

Because of the various directions of wind at this time of year, and that there might be a jungle of grass - too long for buggys and boards to fight their way through, we've organised a couple of backup locations.

1) Belmont Common (Map on KP Website). Will be used if grass is too long at Altona.

2) Eastern Park, Geelong (off Hearne Pde). Will be used if the winds are NW, or North.

3) Tentative - Westerly winds: St Kilda, or Dogrocks??

Final Location will be posted here prior to 10am on Saturday morning.

If you don't have access to this site after that time, then, use your phone to access wap.kitepower.com.au or contact Goshen 0411 968 155.

Hope to see a good kiting crew turn up.

Cheers,

Goshen

Anybody near Altona? Go have a look at the grass for us and we can shorten the list! Or better yet - take a mower down there... just do like an airport, a strip north-south and another east-west, nothing fancy, wide enough for two wide axle buggies to pass, bit of a margin for safety, room at the ends for nice wide high speed turns,..... :D

Tide and winds looking good (no, F'ing great!!) for a play in your back yard Andy.

Sea breeze to 15 knots, with low tide at the heads at 14.13!!!!!

Forget the park. Play on the beach!!!!

The beach sounds excellent!

Officially, the location is now the Belmont Common (the grass at Altona is 10" long), but the beach does sound like the ticket. How about the meet at the Belmont Common, and we'll head down to the beach about 2pm or so?

My data says the low tide (0.45m) is at 3.45 EDS.

But that's pretty good right? It's not a low-low tide, but it's not bad.

The email says 1pm till 5pm; so if the conditions suit, we'll just head down to the Grove. Looking forward to it!

hey - now you're talking! Beach sounds good. Coming from Melbourne so will drop into the common on the way through (1-ish...) The beach has been ok, not much rock exposed and tides have been HIGH so sand is firm fairly well up. Could be good! (Please O please send us a southerly....)

I managed to get in an hour or more at 13th Beach. It was my first time there and I was impressed.

I had to leave at about 3pm. the sand was hard but still a bit wet on the flat bits at that stage.

I take it the Club event stayed at Belmont Common. A good decision because it could have got crowded at the end of the beach.

Anyway, I had a good time and I want to go back.

Bob, wind inland at the common was a bit off and on and we ended up on the Raffs side of Ocean Grove main. SE coming in nicely for 4 to 5m kites and we were there from about 3pm to 6 - 6:30pm. Low tide was about 3:30pm and it was the best day out on the beach so far this season! There were a few pedestrians about but the beach was wide enough to allow everybody enough room most of the time. All the kites looked great and we had about 3 or 4 buggies and 3 or 4 boards going up and down at any one time. Nigel, Neil and I tried to reach for the lighthouse but we needed more wind, a swing more southerly, or larger kites. If you haven't been to main beach before I recommend getting down there one day on a southerly with low tide and going for a cruise to the lighthouse at Point Lonsdale. Lovely run on really nice beach!

I'll take up your suggestion Andy. I had 13th beach all to myself except for the ultralight that dropped in, plus one horse and two pedestrians.

I did the right thing and landed before the horse got close.

But what do you do if Henry turns up? :D

Yes, we had a good time down the beach!!!

Good to see Robbo too!!!

We'll have to get you out at Sandy Point some time, we can make runs to the point and back or just mess around on the 20km beach. :D

A great day, but what happened to Craig, Andy???

He made it to the Park, but missed the beach??

Lets hope that the next club meeting is as successful as this one was!!! :D

Yep, the beach day was awesome... it was my first trip down to the sand so far this season, and it was SO nice just to go for a cruise. it was great ot see some new faces going for a run too. I got a bit of video and some pics, I'm trying to put something together now...

Craig decided that there were just too many touristas for his liking. He only had a short time and he had to be somewhere else anyway, but still his loss.

OG main was bloody great again tonight. Goshen and Chris (New guy from Melbourne) were down having a lesson. Chris has a Libre with Bigfoot lights on it - nice bit of kit like yours Nige. There was another Geelong lad on the spit at Barwon Heads too with a PL and a light green 3 or 4m Vortex. Strong southerly, slight SE. 3.5m Razor, 71km/hr max on the GPS coming around Raffs after tacking up to the Heads. 56km travelled in a couple of hours and nowhere near the number of obstacles/pedestrians as on the weekend. Fast and FUN! If the wind is good tomorrow Craig and I will be there from just after 5pm for another session :D

Chris should turn up at Elwood, and I will show him how to drive a Libre Full Race. :D

It would have been a 3m Vortex (they made them in three sizes 3,6 and 9m).

Pity I live so far away, I would love to join you boys for a run after work.

Doesn't need any more demos - he made it to the lighthouse last night :D He was dressed in t-shirt and shorts. Goshen and I were in winter woolies and freezing but Chris seemed so pumped he didn't even feel the cold (Either that or it's part of his Antarctic training).

After work run is still possible - we didn't get off the beach until after 8:15pm last night. Leave at 5pm...

yeah it was a top session... we made it down to the big rock (just short of the lighthouse). It was Chris's first time on a beach (with the buggy) and he was pretty stoked by the end. It'll be on again tonight...
