Oh dear. You must have hit a stone on the beach or something. Sounds nasty. I think you need to get back up there this weekend, possibly Sunday, to have another go ?

No stone was hit, it was just the rate of return to earth, combined with high speed downwind yank of the kite into 12" of water... Feet first!

What with no Kite????

Will be sending it up to Cygnus for repair on Thursday after it is dry and shaken free of Sand. (Figured they would prefer it that way! )

They have quoted approx £40, figured I'd just let them do it for that!

nah it was worth it for the 40 minutes of carving up the waves, trying to get out over head high lines of white water was proper scary as was seeing 6-7ft unbroken monsters rearing up in front of you, although managing to carve round onto toe side and then ride the beasts in......

.... now that was how to do you say ' make a little bit of the s3x wee':D

now i want more..........

although getting munched by a 4ft high line of white water - now thats interesting especially when you are desperatly trying to keep the kite in the sky:eek:

After 30 minutes of failing to get anything other than a kicking to work....

I was knakered, and quite a bit down wind of anybody else, so I dumped it to safety when it was just touching the water, next to the shore. Obviously it gets a few spins but at least it was down. and I could take a breather.

However it was only when I was packing it up that I noticed that there was a 6" split in the centre of the sail, and the one of the battons was no longer seated 100%, so my theory is that during on of the twists on safety, a batton pinged out and slashed the canopy - Ar$e!!

That said about 10 minutes after I had mine sorted back on the beach and sanded down Stuey had walked back up wind too and he started hinting that he may appreciate his kite being caught on landing as he was knaked too!

When I got back home I looked at the heacham weather station for 'past 24hrs wind' and during the time we were flying wind was between 22knts -25Knts average with Gusts to 30Kts+

As it was a SW and the Tide was mostly at its highest at Old Hunny, it was just wipping past the headland Cliffs and makeing a brutally unpleasant flying experience. Apparently if you got away from the shore line/or when the tide dropped it was much sweeter, but I unfortunately never got there!! :(

thats harsh dude, hope its a cheap repair, perhaps it made contact with a nasty razor shell as it spun :-(

i was on my 7m with my new wave board, and got absolutly pummeled by some waves, pulled a mussle in my neck. That and the approaching black squall cloud made me realise that that was enough for one day, luckily i managed to land the kite ok by myself ( on the empty beach) using the old hawl in on one of the top line trick!!

Rob, hope they do a good job with your kite. With the tear just on the black bit, it should be quite a seamless repair.

They repaired my V16 when it split on both Spar pockets if you recall.

I have no issues over quality of repair, and for £40 ish I cant be asked to do that myself as I still need to source black ripstop and anti-rot thread!

It was good to see people for teh meal last week, shame there were so few, but perhaps considering the the carnage/noise the table out back was making I'm not sure they could have coped with many more!!!

Still got my kite back from Cygnus today, not bad considering I only posted it off Tuesday!!!

Will be unfurling it in the warehouse immenently to check the repair but am pretty sure all will be just fine!
