if you drive from south uist to ullappol you'll have crossed back to the main land!! :-)
seriously though. South uist is ok - long sandy beach all along the west coast but exposed to the atlantic and a military firing range for most of the distance!!
North usit - North coast huge areas of lagoons, some fill at high tide to leave knee deep water for miles, others shallow down to knee deep at low tide - totally flat some of them even in 30knts. Whatch out though as the water is so clear its hard to tell where the water stops and the land begins :-). Get an OS map out and you'll see all the options in all wind directions. there are hundreds
Bernaray island to the north of North uist also has some lovelly lagoons on the north east and some cool places to camp in the dunes.
From there head to Harris. The west cost around luskentyre is just amazing, you have the surf breaks of scarasta, the sheltered bay of horgobost (+campsite on the beach) and then the incrediable turquoise lagoons around luskentyre itself - you'll struggle to get better views anywhere in the worlld when kiting here
travel further north and you'll hit Lewis. SW lewis around UIG bay is amazing. Uig bay on a mid to high tide is knee deep for miles and miles and like a sheet of glass even in 30 knts. There is also reef beach which is awsome in easterlies. Great surf beaches in this area too at cliff and mangastat. If you head north along the west coast you come to loch baravas - its a freshwater loch on the coast. If you have never kited freshwater before its weird - need loads more power - just don't get any water up your nose as its acidic and burns your nasal cavities!! On the east coast of lewis there are loads of straight long beaches especially near stornoway.
Once back on the main land options are limited so stay on the islands!! they totally rock - awsome place to chill out for a few weeks - you'll hardly see anothet kiter though so go prepared to solo kite!
One thing to note on the islands is that sundays are a day of rest and it is taken quite seriously. Respect the locals and residents and stick to flying in out of he way places on a sunday. If you kite baravas on a sunday its in front of the church and you will offend people. There are looads of quiet spots away from hoses to kite on sundays so not to tricky!!
have fun and hope you get some breeze if nothing else to keep the highland midge away! and if you get board, the walking on harris in the mountains is cool, the shore fishing is epic - catch your own dinner! otherwise just chill out the place is sooo loayed back its silly :-)
