mark o Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Thanks guys. I am mostly celebrating by working all day and night at a customer site in Scotland
buggymadchris Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Following our trip to Crabtree earlier this year and since a few SEKA members seem to be using / planning to use Crabtree we're planning to add the Crabtree site details to the ones SEKA already has for Hampshire See http://www.seka.org.uk/cmps_index.php?cc=hampshire Having only been there once, earlier this year can anyone provide me details on the nearest pub, shop, cafe, best wind directions, restrictions etc so i can create a flying site page similiar to the one below for Queens Parade etc http://www.seka.org.uk/cmps_index.php?cc=sites-queensparade Or if there are any other sites nearby let us know. Thanks Chris
Spudley Posted May 10, 2008 Author Report Posted May 10, 2008 Spud, how was the Thursday session? Brilliant. Butter flat, sunshine, not too busy, powered enough to jump with the 14m. Think the next session will be in the shortie, and could be this monday if theres any wind.
mark o Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 fingers crossed for you. I am once again in Scotland and the long range forecast has no wind next weekend either
Noo Noo Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Following our trip to Crabtree earlier this year and since a few SEKA members seem to be using / planning to use Crabtree we're planning to add the Crabtree site details to the ones SEKA already has for Hampshire See http://www.seka.org.uk/cmps_index.php?cc=hampshire Having only been there once, earlier this year can anyone provide me details on the nearest pub, shop, cafe, best wind directions, restrictions etc so i can create a flying site page similiar to the one below for Queens Parade etc http://www.seka.org.uk/cmps_index.php?cc=sites-queensparade Or if there are any other sites nearby let us know. Thanks Chris Hello BMC I'm sure DjMoz and Spudley are your best bets for info. Wind wise Crabtree works from a northerly round to a South Esterly. Bets winds are SW by far. On a SE the field is not big enough (restricted to the top of the hill where it's very narrow.
DjMoz Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 SEKA Info Shops/pubs - Nothing within easy walking distance but Basingstoke town centre, Basing village and lots of other pubs and shops are within a couple of miles in most directions. Nothing specific comes to mind other than: The millstone is a nice pub by a stream not too far away Marko Not said happy birthday yet was going to call but not done so but happy birthday!, hope Scotland was good! DM
mark o Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Hi DM, Scotland was ok... and am back here now after catching the red-eye flight up this morning. Spent all weekend sanding down a shed and re-painting it... how I coped with the excitement I will never know.
Noo Noo Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 fingers crossed for you. I am once again in Scotland and the long range forecast has no wind next weekend either No great loss this week I suppose. I'm on call so I'm not fretting. Nothing worse than perfect 20 mph when I'm on call. I may also have had another stroke of luck. I alsways log my sessions on the OR website. I think I've managed to log the 2000th hour. When they reached 1000 they gave away a load of free kit. here's crossing fingers, legs, toes
DjMoz Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 I may also have had another stroke of luck. I alsways log my sessions on the OR website. I think I've managed to log the 2000th hour. When they reached 1000 they gave away a load of free kit. here's crossing fingers, legs, toes You mean that those hours of time wasted on forums while at work may not be wasted? wow! Well NN the weekend gives you time to help me sort out my van! share you experience and engineering skills! Still waiting for snap to fix my car:mad: , at this rate I may have to pay someone to do it:confused: . dm
Noo Noo Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 you haven't bought a rust bucket have you? At least I was given one. Doubt much will come of it anyway. I'm never that lucky and it's too obvious. I'm going to log off now DM and spend those extra few minutes scrutinising my personal financial conundrum and see how I can make the hole bigger.
DjMoz Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 PL Synergy 12m on the way! I just need a bar now, still got snaps old bar ready to convert but no easy options, so hoping NN can do me a good deal on an OR 08 bar. No wind forecast anytime soon so looks like maiden flight will be in Egypt! DM
Noo Noo Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 didn't know you wer going to Egypt to camp!?!?!?!?
mark o Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Forecast for the weekend is looking good both Sat and Sun down around poole but its a NE. Studland might be a winner... any other suggestions? Sat in airport lounge now with nothing to do other than dream of at least some wind this weekend.
Noo Noo Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Off the front at Sandbanks works. dead cross shore. Seem to remember being there around this time last year with Spuds. Same wind direction blah blah. Peoples I have some sad news to announce. Visited DM last night for our usual Thursday evening social only to find DM and Snap comparing voltmeters. Despite previous denials further probing revealed that at least one of them has shopped at Maplin. I hereby declare an Amber Geek ALERT.
Spudley Posted May 16, 2008 Author Report Posted May 16, 2008 Avon beach works just as well, is a bit closer and the carpark is right on the beach. Was there tuesday afternoon, nice to go out in a shortie.
mark o Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Spud you are making me very jealous, you seem to be getting all the good weather mid-week.
mark o Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 NN, sad news regarding DM and Snaps downward spiral into geekdom.
DjMoz Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 In my defense, I have not bought mine from Maplin and I dont know how to work it - although I have now learnt a second function thanks to Snap. Spudley is definately winning the water time stakes at the moment, Marko has fallen off a little after a very good March and April, NN still claiming a little time in NWales. I feel that I am lacking, better be good winds in Egyopt is all I can say. DM
mark o Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 although I have now learnt a second function thanks to Snap This statement worries me.
Noo Noo Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 although I have now learnt a second function thanks to Snap This statement worries me. Agreed. geek in training geek ambitions (Almost sounds like a grunge band) I remember last night "I've measured the voltage drop, resistance and circuit integrity of my vehicle sound modulator with my Maplin swiss army issue combination voltmeter, ampmeter and Ohmeter complete with flexible manually operated probes and scale dial. Dont forget my digital readout and alarm. Unfortuantely my extensive efforts returned a negative result.........." To the rest of us DM was trying to say "my car stereo dont work."
DjMoz Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Nice, I am proud of myself now for saying that unfortunately what I said was "I dont now why it doesnt work, where do I stick the probe? Is it meant to make that noise? and then why isnt it making a noise?"
snap1 Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 LOL see what no wind does to you guys. NooNoo I am gonna love when you have to start buying or even borrowing kit to get your van electrics sorted, you just wait! Every good mechanic has a multimeter! I bet some even go to Maplin too ! OMG its the weekend and I have not even planned anything!
mark o Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Looking at the wind forecast it looks like tomorrow might be offering a good morning / early afternoon session in a NE... never been to Avon beach before. Anyone up for a visit?
