mark o Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 5 is ok... 0 is bad anyone up for it? forecast to be a southerly so any suggestions?
DjMoz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 I have my suggestions - stay in bed and watch the storm out of the window. Although it might be worth the trip to watch Marko freeze and get pasted in 40kn winds! Sandbanks is fine as a cross on in a southerly. If the forecast holds it looks like it will be too much for me. DM
mark o Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 forecast wind strength is dropping off, now ~25knots excluding gusts. weather is cold but 6deg more than when my hands froze
Spudley Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 wont make the coast, but should be up crabtree for a blast from 2pm.
DjMoz Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Will also be there, interesting 2m weather.
Noo Noo Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I have found a wheel which I have no use, do not want so it's up for sale. Nice looking wheel obviously fell off a chariot sometime between 1730 and 1800 on Saturday. I reckon there was quite some wreck after it fell off. I picked it up on the M4 gently rolling toward Wales. Gut feeling is it came from the Twickenham area. Condition isn't too bad but it's been in the wars a little. Seems to have been burned a bit and been in contact with something red.
Spudley Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 think he's gloating about the rugby Mark;)
Noo Noo Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 think he,s gloating about the rugby Mark;) Tee hee
DjMoz Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I can feel the glow of pride from here, 7.20am I see you waited a while before gloating. DM
Noo Noo Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 yes I'm well chuffed with myself. I've managed to restrain myself a whole day and a bit. You guys were lucky you didn't get a text or two at about 6:30 Saturday evening. Beating the "old enemy" is always a bit special. For some reason it seems to happen in a spectacular fashion Oh traffic was nightmare last night on the way back. RAC and the AA were all over the place repairing broken chariots.
Noo Noo Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Well I have decided that after much deliberation, looking into my inner being and the mirror that I am bored............................ i actually looked in my wallet too. That didn't help or offer any reconcilliation.
DjMoz Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 You see this is what happens when you do too much, stop and you are bored. If, like me, you did little then life is generally lived in a mild but pleasing state of boredom, so the little activity I do is greatly enjoyed and the bored moments are barely noticed. My Wallet is empty but bank account is filling with money for holidays and kites! DM
Noo Noo Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Now that really helps. Starting low, less distance to fall. Beware, you have just painted a very strange picture of yourself DM. Up high bigger buzz!!! Oh by the way my talent for finding money sponges knows no bounds. I think I'll go and cry now
snap1 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Well not all of us are sad, This weekend is looking promising that I can escape down to the coast. Hayling is looking ok for a bit of body dragging/ falling off the board. Though Low tides are early! I really need to get wet again, last time was my lession!!! What are you guys planning for the weekend? Marko u are usually out in anything? Pub tonight any 1?
Noo Noo Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Aye. I'm down this weekend with little'un. Saturday looks extremely busy having successfully negotiated plans with my soon to be 5 year old. I must take him swimming and bowling!?!! in that exact order, on saturday, without fail, no excuses, full stop. In return I'm allowed to watch the rugby at 2pm.
martin Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Hey people. Can someone give me some more info on the field that is next to the M3 at the Basingstoke turn off. I've seen kiters there when passing & am looking to come up shortly. I spoke to someone at Port Solent last year who explained where to park but i can't see anywhere on the aerial maps. I think he said to turn left at the first roundabout & come back on yourself but that's all i can remember. (Travelling from Southampton). What's a good/bad wind direction + how steep is the field. Any info much appreciated, ta. Martin.
Noo Noo Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 yep. After leaving the M4 turn left at the first roundabout. Leave the road at the first slip and you will come back on yourself. Follow the road round a bit and you will come to a park called "Black Dam(n) Ponds" There is room for parking. At the far end you'll see a subway going under the main road head through here and follow the path to the left. Works in a NW(just) right round to an Easterly (just) SW being by far the best Enjoy.
martin Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Cheers dude. I take it this is the parking & the subway? http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=51.261722,-1.066894&spn=0.00073,0.002688&t=h&z=19&om=0
mark o Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 snap, the weekend is looking too light even for me. I confess that ~10-12 knots is not much fun on the water for me, certainly with any kite in my quiver. Might head up the field at some point if the breeze hits the area to see if anyone is out and about. DM/Spud, have yet to download the couple video clips I took but as soon as I do I will let you have links to them
DjMoz Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Snap - got to agree with Marko 12kn early saturday is very borderline but may be worth a dip for you, I may not bother. I will be around tonight probably. Martin - not to disagree with the wise old Noo Noo but dont go near the M4, its the M3 you want. Also it is my opinion that the wind is fine North through to South (inline with the trees at the top of the field and the tree line to the south of the motorway which is slightly higher than the hill) South easterly and East can be intertesting. South easterly last weekend but can be scary, I did get some good jumps. DM
martin Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Didn't even notice the M4 bit, i knew what he meant though;). When NooNoo says it's good "NW to E, SW being the best", i take it that's anti-clockwise?
DjMoz Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Sorry, I forgot the though west bit. North through west to South, SW being the best. Anything with an east is not much good but East to South is flyable but not much fun.
martin Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Ta. You might have a few peeps down there next Sat 16th:D
