Update

I've done my leg in. Dont know how but it hurts. Really stiff achiles. Obviously sitting at my desk is too extreme.

Skim board.

Shaping, poxy epoxy done. Started fitting the graphics and will start sealing V soon. Coming along now at last.

leg is on the mend thankfully. I was finding it real difficult to go to the right.

No kiting for me for a week or two unfortunately. Little'un takes priority. Another chance for DM to streak forward.

Skim update. tiny bit of sanding to get rid of some excess glue and then umpteen coats of varnish. I've gone a bit mad on the graphics........

Swift ale this evening anyone??

Hope you all had a great looong weekend... got back late last night from cornwall. Caught the sun a bit too much and paying for it now. Had a few great sessions, rescued by life guard boat when kite ditched and would not relaunch. Then the next day the leading edge bladder went bang  but overall an excellent time was had. :D

Mark, there was no wind this weekend how did you get out at all? Still causing drama by the sounds of it and the contribution to the RNLI can end up expensive.

Glad it was good though.

Hi Paul,

the best spot is probably crabtree.

works best in e-s-or w winds, from the m3 jct6 turn left at the main roundabout, follow signs to black dam ponds(1st turn on the left)

park in the ponds car park, walk under the subway and follow path bearing left. as the path heads up the hill you will see the field,

ideally the wind blows up the hill,if it is then go at least halfway up the hill to avoid wind shadow from the trees at the bottom!!

also be aware of the picnic tables at the top of the hill if boarding/buggying:eek:

Thanks for this, when do u guys usually get up there? Do u venture out any where else?

The regular posters on this thread have all discovered kitesurfing lately and make regular trips to the coast now(family commitments permitting..)

but are often found at crabtree when the conditions dont justify a trip to the coast.

the recent northerlies would rule out either crabtree or the coast but as soon as it swings south we will be getting back out i am sure.

Evenings are getting shorter real quick now:eek:  but w/ends there is usually someone about.

All - Thursday evening, I will be making a trip to crabtree if anyone is up for joining me. Wind will be NW and only 10+mph but hopefully constant. Enough for the 16m.

Monday afternoon was dead but occasionaly in maybe 8mph gusts I got moving on the 16m and somehow managed a backloop kiteloop (pulled on wrong hand) and landed it. So I am now wanting to try this again although I feel it was a fluke.

Spud, mark, Davey, Pete anyone around? The ever enthusiastic Colyn is in Wales.

Snap1 welcome and feel free to join us.

I found crabtree last night in the end and looks like a fun place to ride when the wind is about. DJMoz nice to meet you there, would be good to see what ur kite can do in a bit more wind, looks like u could get some good airs!

What source do you guys get the wind data from for crabtree? Is there a website that list speed and direction...

Cheers

Hey guys, was up crabtree yesterday afternoon - had an ok-ish session there - wind W - NW so a bit gusty. Our house went through finally last saturday so have been cleaning up and moving stuff in since. Have a couple of projects to do like hiding the wires to a wall mounted flatscreen etc and hiding some very nastily done central heating pipes!!

I have a friend coming down on Monday for a few days so im sure werl be out crabtree a few times - going to try hit the coast too - maybe hill head. We will have to try and co-ordinate with when others are out - would be good to see everyone. I start my new job a week monday and from then on ill be like the rest of you - evenings and weekends only!!!!

What kite would you guys recommend to get around 9 meters which could be used for landboarding and kite surfing. Not looking to spend a huge amount, just got married and I am told the expenses don't stop there!

Hope to meet up with the rest of you at crabtree soon.

Cheers

Howdy guys

good little session yesterday. Looks like Spud had the best of it but at least it filled back in after a while. Good week away too.

Looks like my Summers over - evenings anyway. Will be with the little'un every evening from this Wednesday. Still may pop down though - outdoor life and all that.

Hi Snap1 - good to hear another flier joining in. Terrible first question but how much do you weigh? Personally I would recommend a 9m Bow of some description. If you've got some kiting experience and wont be ditching it every minute it will give you the best range. Spudley has a 9m Waroo which gets him going in 15mph or so on water (FAT board) but he's still holding it way after that. My 9m Ocean Rodeo ONE is similar but perhaps not quite the same low end. The 2006 kites are getting cheap now.
