james matthews Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 :confused:hi, i saw this on the snowkiting bit; http://ataka.speedriding.free.fr/Vi...%20%20small.mpg and had a brain wave, who thinks it would work with a landboard and a a foil like a blade without the main lines and the brake lines, just the bridle with a bar maybe? could be worth a try? what do ya think? james:confused: Quote
maxlevens Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 i saw that vid and considered the same, but well what can I say - i love life - I woudnt give it a try if iwere you, i doubt you would survive too many tries. Quote
RKK Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. Quote
james matthews Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 lol but for people who like dangerous stuff..... lol what about with a bigger kite? like a frenzy james Quote
mattdez Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 sounds like good fun to me, someones gotta try it, cheers for the idea!! thought kiting was an extreme sport, most ppl on these forums seem a bit dry n unadventurous!! (im just waiting for the angry replies now!) Quote
james matthews Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 lol na im the kind of person that enjoys that kinda stuff lol , like jumping off the top of a building and fracturing my leg! *ouch* lol Quote
AliB Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 someone donates a kite to me im well up for trying that!!!!!!!! Quote
james matthews Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 i might too lol i just aint got any decent hills around here Quote
daZZa-S Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 had a go with an 8.5 blade and got some intresting results. Basically had the blade on the bridles and just couldn't control the blade whilst blasting down the hill (there was NO wind). Tried it once whilst running and go no lift and had the same problems. May work better if you try to get some of paragliding harness setup. I would like to try it again with some wind and see what happens. May be able to control the kite a bit better. Quote
windrider1 Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 WOOOOWWWW ,that is totally insane,, damm that looks like aloot of fun, but as a kiter i know that is so dangerous u could easily get slamed into the ground ,, but its an amazing video. Quote
cstowell Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Sounds like a case of the old MBS ad that ran in the states. Dude dials 911 on his mobile - "can you send me an ambulance please"... rips it down the mountain, last seem flying through the air. Just make sure you video it all so that you've got the money from Kirsty's home videos to make a decent donation to your local air ambulance after they've lifted your broken heap of a body to the traction ward... ...I must be getting old or something? Quote
maxlevens Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 it wouldnt work with blades would it - Id have thought the ar was too high, higher than what those ski guys were using anyway. It looks fun, but Im not sure you could reach the relavent speed, and remain stable enough for kite control on a board - they were going damn fast when they started to lift off. Quote
Lem Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Not a problem with the AR - Armin has converted a 17m Speed into a paraglider, and some of the DHV3 canopies are equally mental. However, you're far better off trying this with a paraglider... and knowing how to paraglide would help too! Quote
Ally Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 er..........it doesnt work. was tryed off arthurs seat with a 6.6 blade. very little control and............well............it doesnt work. sorry Quote
buggy nut Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 However, you're far better off trying this with a paraglider... and knowing how to paraglide would help too! Well we've got the paraglider...... 27.3m of goodness...... but no lessons yet. We might rent it out but if in the process of breaking yourself you rip the kite or cover it in bodily fluids, you will have to pay for the cleaning/repair bill Quote
songalolo1 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 that's awesome..... would love to be brave enough to try that... but I think a blade might not be the best kite.... not sure what would though.... good luck if you gonna try it Quote
lard Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 That is (to borrow a phrase from our transatlantic friends) completely awesome. Best vid I have seen in a long time. That must be an amazing rush. Quote
Ed_H Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 What are they using? Are they converted kites? and if so could I use my Blade....or are they just really small paragliders? Quote
pen-dragon Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 they look like the sort of chute that you'd yse bace jumping Quote
Gizmo Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 They just very smal parachutes aint they...what a thing to do though.....amazing I want a go....sign me up and get me life insurance.....lol:D:D:D Quote
hankster Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 why not use a kite wing, same difference without the bridle? Quote
hankster Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 after seeing the vid forget using a kite, you need a paraglider. Quote
northern jim Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 have been considering getting armoured up and having a go on progressively larger hills with my wing and some sort of board. If we get some decent snow in the pennines I'll have a go! Quote
maxlevens Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Not a problem with the AR - Armin has converted a 17m Speed into a paraglider, and some of the DHV3 canopies are equally mental. However, you're far better off trying this with a paraglider... and knowing how to paraglide would help too! are you saying you feel like taking a dhv3 wing down a hill, sounds like certain death! you arent looking for an ar anything like a paraglider for that kind of thing - you want something with a smaller ar id say, to stay nice and stable, and to actually make it down the hill - Id say a more likely answer to the want for flight in downhill runs would be a more handgliderish design - kitewing style but bigger, with a more aerofoil shape. I wouldnt advice trying that with a paraglider i have to say. Sounds like a bad plan - wouldnt they be too big, and even dhv1 type wings i wouldnt expect be as stable as what those guys were using. it looks dangerous enough with the kit in the video - anyone know any base jumpers? - reckon theyd lend some kit?
