The nearest place for you to go would be Tinshill top at adel- its one of the highest places in leeds. The trees can be a bit of a pain making it a bit gusty at times but generally there is plenty of space to buggy or board. Im going to start going more after work i think. I live in guisely so we should meet up some time and a good old kite session.

+ i have just bought a Frenzy05 5m so the winds for me are great to get used to the kite

Whereabouts is Tinshill Top?

Is it easy to find if you get to Tinshill?

I live in Chapel Allerton and due to the Mela at Roundhay they have fenced off 80% of the main park at the moment where all the Kiters seem to go.

Be good to find another local place.

Its near adel - my mate has just got into kite boarding and he lives in chapel allerton. he usually uses roundhay park, but sometimes it too busy and you sometimes get asked to stop boarding!

check this link out

- get to lawnswood roundabout and head towards otley. when you come off the roundabout about 100 meters there is a fork to the left, take that and continue on that road for about 1.5 miles. You will pass the field on your right. Look out for the telecom towers. Before you reach the field you will pass Est Est Est resauraunt on your left.

easy peasy

see you there some time - il will opst on here when i go up there

Aha, I know where you mean, near Cookridge.

I drop my mate off after football by the Telecom tower.

It has football pitches on it doesn't it, have to bear that in mind at weekends.

Cheers mate, will probably see you up there sometime.

i am sooooo pleased i got rid of the blade. good kites but i love the stable delivery of power the frenzy gives.

We found a windy place on sat afternoon, it was V gusty and kept getting ripped of the board. plenty of air as well but with the added feeling of safety. I like the fact i can rip a cord and its all over, if you know what i mean.

did you say you have frenzys? and how was the camping, did you manage to fly?

Posted

hi there,

Yup I have a frenzy, camping was good, wind and space wasn't!!! Ran out of car space so didn't take the frenzy or the board! Then got to Cayton Bay on Friday, wind was ok, was going to launch my little devil and the wind died then picked up with heavy rain, so abandoned the idea of flying!

Did manage to get my 5 year old flying a 2 line kite though!

cheers,

Looks like good winds forecasted for this Sunday according to www.xcweather.co.uk .

I am definitely gonna get out somewhere, the girlfriend is keen for a day out to the coast so may give Bridlington/Fraisthorpe a go.

Anyone here got plans to head to the coast this weekend? Would be good to see some local Leeds guys and watch/learn how it is done.

If we don't get round to getting to the beach may just hit Roundhay or try Tinshill out.

Got my first air (semi-accidental) last weekend so itching to get back out with the kite :)

If I make it to the beach may even try using kite and board together, the (slightly) softer landing may be a good place to start.

Yes going to Ainsdale this weekend again, tide time is good on the west coast:D

Went to Bridlington and have realised that 10 mph to 20-25mph winds is a big step up with a 3 metre Samurai!

Haven't flown in much over 10 in Leeds so was very wary about launching it on Sunday as the Kiteshack had told me that it was over 20 mph and still picking up.

In the end I decided to find a nice empty bit of beach and give it a go. Got it up and was absolutely loving it. Had it under control, dipping into the power zone and going flying down the beach, half scudding half running.

Then tried to land it. This is where I should have maybe just used the kite killers but I was bringing it down right out at the side of the window and at about 2 feet off the ground it suddenly shot back across the window and yanked me off my feet onto my knee (slightly stiff today :) ) before dragging me about 10 metres on my front before I could regain control.

So I think a bit of practise landing it in slightly lighter winds before taking it out again at those speeds but other than that great fun.

Wish i was at the beach this weekend. My frenzy05 5m is itching in the bag! we should hook up sometime this week after work wind permitting?

Have a go on a the depower, great in high winds!

good so see you enjoying it anywayz

Yeah definitely mate.

I am home by 5.30 to 6 most days (Wednesdays 7) and at the moment if there is even a slight wind will be heading to Roundhay (or may try Tinshill soon) just to get practising. Not sure there is much wind forecast this week, saying that the trees outside my work are blowing around a bit at the moment, but if we get some would be good to meet up.

Depowers do look more controllable in high winds as there was a Frenzy and a Phantom out at Brid yesterday and they were both relatively big, both at least 7-8m kites (maybe bigger, I am not an expert on kite sizes yet) and they were looking very stable compared to what my Sami was behaving like.

Feeling a bit skint at moment as saving for a trip to Australia in November but it isn't gonna be long before I get myself something bigger. May have to look down the depower route. Getting a bit ahead of myself though as I haven't put the kite and board together yet, maybe tonight if the winds are relatively light :)

well your more than welcome to have a go on the frenzy and see what you think.

I only really put the borad and the kite together last weekend but found it abit gusty - kept getting ripped off the board.

Where abouts do you work as sometimes a couple of us go out on a lunch and do a little boarding at kirkstall, opposite the abbey. I think it helped me. I tried them both seperate and when i put them together i think it made it easier. Try boarding down a hill first and get used to the feel of the board. (i sound like im an instructor - F*** me thats not the case!)

cant come and play tonight - the wife has something planned but maybe tomorrow if the wind is good - if no wind we could still board - i need the excersise!

I work at City Walk, the new offices by the Bewleys Hotel as you drive in to the centre off the M621.

I could get to Kirkstall in about 10 mins on a lunchtime so could maybe get 30-40 mins boarding in before having to head back and grab a quick shower back at work. Will bear it in mind.

Yeah up for going out tomorrow evening and kite/board if wind or just board if not.

Whereabouts are you based. I am North Leeds (Chapel Allerton) but have a car so can get anywhere locally. Where is a good place to board down a hill? I tried it briefly just behind the skatepark at Roundhay down to the cricket pitch the other day. I think there may be a better hill a bit further round the lake if my memory serves me correctly but haven't been round there for ages.

I agree that getting confident on the board first will help as when I tried it the other day I realised it was quite different on wheels than snow or wake boarding is. Stopping may take a bit of practise!

I work in headingley so kirkstall is the nearest place to board on a lunch. If the wind is blowing tomorrow we could meet at tinshill top at about 6. I live in guiseley so its kind of in the middle for both of us. If there is no wind then i could get to roundhay for a bit of board action!

Sounds good to me.

Will look tomorrow afternoon what the wind is looking like and decide where to go then.

Anyone else got nothing planned on a Tuesday night who wants to join us?

normally i'd jump at this, but my car went in to get the dunch fixed this morning and won't be back for a week. if i can get a lift up though i might make an apperance, won't be able to fetch my buggy though :(

No probs, I play football on Wednesdays but should be home by about 7 so if there is any wind will head out, although its not looking too good for rest of week, Saturday has a bit more forecasted at moment.

May try Pontefract racecourse out if there is enough on Saturday.

Just shout if you want to do some downhill one evening.
