tomkite Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 hey, just wondering how many people can actually ride toeside. Cuz when i watch other riders no1 seems to be doing it? Quote
nobby Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 i can ride toeside. getting 180 slides and hops into and out of sorted at the mo. still a bit wobbly, but improving. Quote
Natz Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Well... I can do it, but only if it's not gusty!!! Guess I'm at the same stage as Nobby; got the 180 slides from heelside to toeside sussed the other day, but getting out of it isn't quite as easy!! Quote
kitegirl Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I got this off a couple of years ago as one of the first low-wind tricks, but for some reason, like a lot of people, don't do it too much. I'm not keen on riding toeside in anything resembling above-medium-to-high winds - so save it for those low wind days with big kites. Having said that, the forcast's 15+ for tomorrow at Fraisy and I've been told I gotta ride toeside for some pics to be taken... am hoping to have both ankles still safely intact tomorrow evening Dee Quote
Natz Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I've been told I gotta ride toeside for some pics to be taken... am hoping to have both ankles still safely intact tomorrow evening Dee GO GIRL!! Good luck!! Luv Natz X Quote
kitegirl Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 GO GIRL!! Good luck!! Luv Natz X Ah mate, you should come fly with me at Frais if you can ever get down this way. Would be nice to have another girly boarder to break the monotony of testosterone-fuelled conflab PM me if you got transport, and can ever get down. I get to Redcar now and again so maybe we could hook up there? Anyways, so as not to be seen as hijackin' this thread, here's a pic of me riding toeside at Westshore, Llandudno in the summer. http://groups.msn.com/TEAMWASTED/twotinwalesjune2004.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=234 Right, horizontaldom calls Quote

Guess I'm at the same stage as Nobby; got the 180 slides from heelside to toeside sussed the other day, but getting out of it isn't quite as easy!! pop the kite up high and carve round to heelside again. no more stop/start left/ right runs anymore. rjw Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 nobbys got is sussed. a big carve around leaning right back on the kite, great. also going from heel to toe send the kite across and carve around, literally around your trailing hand, which you can even drag on the floor a bit for balance if needed, pick up a blade of grass/bit of sand and then throw it in the air to pretend to check the wind direction. not keen on it when to overpowered though. my biggest problem with toeside is that for some reason i cannot go as fast as i can when heelside, any ideas anybody. nobby Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 dunno about sussed.... sooo hard to get it all right and make it look smooth. Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 If you get to toeside and have problems getting back the other way try lifting the trailing wheels only and lifting them around ever so slightly, if your moving at even a reasonable pace it'll whip around 180 and it should feel very natural to let it down at the right moment. Watch out for the jerk as it swings and stops, its quick and if you finish it off by dropping down low and powering the kite up a bit more it looks cool. Kev Quote

Kev Been working on silly things like that and it is fun:D Dont find toeside that bad myself...only if its gusty do i not like doing it..... I even tried jumping 180 from toeside so i was going heelside...needless to say i got a bit to cocky...lol Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I did a few 180 Grabs to Toeside once, but I felt so shakey doing them i didnt want to do them again. Jumps are what I usually do, but dont cruise toeside that often cos I find it hard to slide to stop. Kev Quote

Natz Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 An example of it about 3/4s of the way through this if you want to see what it looks like ..... Blimey, you make it look so simple; just flipping it round!! Just gotta wait for these big gusty westerlies to swing back round again (could be in for a long wait!) before I go trying that one! Thanks Ian for the demo! Luv Natz x Quote
IanT61 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Hi Natz When I try it I'm afraid I usually fall off! I was just the camera man, the rider is my son (littledevil). He's getting fair better at this game than I am but I put that down to me spending most of the time setting up and taking down kites and him spending most of the time flying them lol. Cheers Ian & Ben Quote
littledevil Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 thats right tis me lol my dad is chief camera man and kite monkey lol :p Ben Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I'm almost embarressed to claim this was me, lol, back in the day when I was younger (Taken Sept 03). Hope i've improved a bit since then. Shows it a bit clearer anyway, http://www.kiteatb.co.uk/kev/kevold.mpg Kev Quote
SkintMonkey Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Sorry all i could see there were jack ups...lol I fly with jack ups:o ...stupid harness:rolleyes: Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Lol, dont insult my trousers, its the harnesses fault! lol Kev Quote
Natz Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Maybe that's where I'm going wrong... I need some of those "jack ups"... hmmm.... Quote
Adrena1in Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I've been able to tentatively ride toeside right from the beginning really, but I don't feel that comfortable doing it. Can't edge anywhere near as well as heelside, so upwind is a struggle. I only fly unhooked with handles though, so it takes a lot of twisting. I'd sooner not ride toeside really. Quote
fivefoothigh Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Yeah I can do toeside. hop, carve, slide, two wheeld, 540transition anyway you want. Blind now thats what we should be working on......... it sorta hurts and i cant go in a straight line Quote
samski Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 the best way (i find) is to pivot on your front foot as u do so power the kite up or pull the handles in to get u going and keep ur balance. same on the way out pivot on front foot and power/pul the handles to get ur balance on heelside also on the way out carving is good. hey LD i think thats how my dad feels since he had is injury but hes keen to get going and i cant wait till he starts jumping again but for now having a free kite helper/videoer is pretty cool:D hope dad doesnt see this:eek: Quote
