mick Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 They criticize all great things. It might go great in fact I'm tempted. In fact I'm going down the garage to make one. It's inspired me. Wheres me hammer. No more bending , welding or rusting and when you get fed up, you just burn it. Brilliant. Quote
king_of_the_sky Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Hey don't knock it ! No really dont knock it it will break!!!!!!!! Quote
adamski Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 That would be kewl! Wear a full face helmet with a dark visor though Quote
Kiteboyza Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 rather do 50mph in my cameleon than in that...saying that would come in handy for a nice fire Quote
Dechoff Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Stuart, If we stuck Mr Steele in this we might stand more chance at the Supercup. He'd probably still kick our ar*e's though! Paul K716 Quote
sexybum25 Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I was hoping to sell my Peter Lynn bigfoot and get a libre truck in the summer, but I think I've made up my mind to build a wooden libre instead. I want to get back to nature more. Quote
MadAndy71 Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Watch out for the rising damp and woodworm!! Quote
8015 Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Fact previously unknown to everyone bar my family When I was a kid I used to try and rig sails onto go karts with very similar design to these things, I gave up and stuck to sailing dinghies, now it looks like I've gone almost full circle having finally joined a sand yacht club, but as a parakarter! It's grass roots stuff, but thank goodness design has come on a lot since then JIM Quote
raptor Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 i made one of these when i was 10. but used parm wheels and axles with nails bent over to hold them in place. Seat was also nailed in place. Not very stable even with string as a steering aid Quote
kiting mad Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 wouldnt wana be behind it if it crashed splinter city Quote
sunk Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 http://kites.free.fr/Easy%20Buggy/photos2/EasyBuggy07.jpg sod the wooden buggy thing look at that beach ! Quote
Tobz Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Hey! Remember they laughed at the De Havilland Mosquito during the war because it was made of wood... though I don't think this beast will be quite as fast. Actually... no rust... no bends or metal fatigue... lighter than steel for equivalent strength... Any engineer will tell thee that there's nowt wrong wi' a bit o' wood lad! If is was bolted together rather than screwed, I don't see why it shouldn't make for a really cheap and usable buggy... and with two wheels at the front, no understeer! (though remembering my circa 1979 soap box, high speed shimmy would be 'interesting' if it ever got really shifting!!!) Bless 'em Quote
mick Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Thats it! Got it finished. Tested it today. Wind was gusting to 20mph. I reckon I got up to what seemed about 10 mph before I chickened out. Used very similar design to the one on the web but with a bigger screw thro the the wheels. Bit of a sickening sound on the turn and a bit of wobble after told me that wood cannot take the side loading that kites put on the buggy. Anyway went thro a pile of dog sh-t so tossed it in the canal. Mk 2 maybe. The day has dawned of disposable buggys. Quote
