anc Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I got a homemade with 6" wide wheels and they don't go well on snow. it is very slippery and almost no side friction. um, I thought of making some buggy skis. just take some skis and cut them short and put them under my buggy. can this be done? no I mean does it work? Ive seen a few pics of buggys like this. does a buggy like this have side friction(I mean I dont ride sideways)? or maybe skis for buggying on frozen lakes. any Ideas what to do with my buggy on snow? anc Posted December 23, 2003 Author Report Posted December 23, 2003 ok but anyone know a page with better closeups on the skis? are they 100% parallel to the ground? tilted a bit? if parallel how will they prevent sideslip`? Quote
Jonesing4Wind Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 this is a nice site, but not bent toward giving the do it yourselfer a good idea of what to do to buggy on snow/ice. I recently moved where there is snow on the local buggy field about 5 months out of the year. So, obviously, this was foremost in my mind too! Thru local web sites and email, I found a chap who had exactly what I was looking for. They are a tubular steel frame, bolted to snowmobile skis. The width of the top of the triangle is the same width as the wheels, so the same bolts are used. All 3 seem to be identicle, but as they are not mine, I cannot say for sure. Notice the bungee cords to keep the ski tips up(it could get nasty if one caught a small hill and dug in!) Quote
Jonesing4Wind Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 silly me!! forgot the links!! snobugy 1 snobugy 2 snobugy3 I want to stress that I have not tried this, so cannot say if it works as good as it looks. Also, depending on snow depth and drift depth, you might want raise your bum a bit more off the ground than regular wheels put you. I have not even got as far as buying the snomobile skis, but if you hunt around, you can find OK deals on eBay, just search for snomobile skis. If anyone has specific questions, I can pass them on the gent who has this set of buggy skis. Keep us informed if anyone tries this!! Quote
Peter Pan1599968576 Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 Have you thought about pivoting the rear skis longitudinally and setting the mounting point bias toward the inside egde of the ski? This may give you more grip and prevent side sliding. Quote

MadAndy71 Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Old thread I know but what about big wheels with chains on if the snow is that prevalent. Quote
