Woppa Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Ok, the safety gear (lack of) thread has persuaded me to buy a helmet. What types do people wear? Just a quick straw poll, and then I'll look them up on the net, and decide which I would look least like a tw*t in! Unavoidable, I know, but you can minimise these things. Quote
bigairjunkie Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Have to say, rasga is right. Have had mine for about 6 months and is the most confortable one around. The only other option is go for a snowboard helmet, looks both cool and is comfortable but can get pricey Quote
rasga Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Google Search For Info Here Shop Link Here Pic : http://www.powerkiteshop.com/images/accessories/safety/jingllandhelmet.gif Now, Why don't you want to rush out and get one of those? Quote

The Geoff Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I use the XTRM helmet. Good all round protection but I do find it keeps slipping back. The 'one size fits all' is a bit small. Looks cool though Quote
spooky Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Pro-Tec Can get either the SK8/BMX versions for around £38/40 with free Signeture model stickers. Or the water version which is lighter and has waterproof padding in (same sort of price). If you want waterproof padding and maximum protection get teh Pro-Tec Wake helmet (beefed up water version) £50 but IMHO worth it. If yu want seriouse head and facial protection get a full face hlmet, just so happens I have a nice Azonic's AZX Fibre & Carbon/kevlar one for sale, New £115 askin £70 or sesncible near offfer? Apart from that it is down to personal choice? Have fun, Jon Quote
freez Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 i just use my snowboard helmet, as it covers more of my head Quote
mcFly Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Hey Woppa! I just got a standard stateside helmet - cheap, does the trick and doesn't look too stupid.I haven't worn it much yet but since I'm doing air I have started to take it with me! By the way - where do you board? I'm usually down ballaugh or ramsey dep. on wind dir. Don't think I've seen u about - thought I was the only one KTB'ing over here. Was down on Sunday though not much joy but ur man with the buggy was there too - he said he knew you. Well, gis a shout sometime - b cool to get a few more KTB'rs together... Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I'm with Spooky on this one...for general purposes, I use a Protec ACE lid. Quote
sgillow Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 That thread has also started me thinking about helmets, I have a feeling that getting the right size is very important so I was planning on going down to my local skate shop and see what they have for around £25. If powerkiteshop can sell them for £20 then I should get something locally that I can try on for £25. Is that a good plan? Quote
schmik1599968584 Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I use a skate / BMX helmet made by Pryme. Whatever you get, make sure it fits well and covers the back of the head too.... not like a cycling helmet. schmik Quote
Airwolf Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 For a cheap helmet the Carnage sk8 stly for between £10-15 Try the Grit X full face for £60-70 stops us mashing our heads in all the time. In fact ask scubbytramp if his head is ok after landing full force on his face. Quote
Lansdown Boy Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 If you fancy the Kheo Dirt Full face , try a deal with coastguard , will pricematch or beat the lowest on web which is powerkiteshop.com. Managed to get mine for £55 Quote
gingerob19 Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 i just use one of the £15 stateside helmets from my local skate shop. Comfort is ok and i did take a huge wack on the head from a buggy axle and didn't feel a thing. Dunno if anyone else has any input about these cheap ones? rob Quote

Fairy Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Full face Rudy Project helmet... £150 and i got it for $50 because the bloke in the bike shop wnates to get rid of it.........:-) top helmet and looks good to. Quote
blackdragon Posted December 6, 2003 Report Posted December 6, 2003 Dirt full face for me, as it gives plenty of room to gain access to nose and mouth so if worst happens a mask could be used with out having to remove the helmet and risk further neck damage. from PowerKiteShop for about £59.95 Quote
