Arran Willis Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 what do you use? please make any comments Quote
wakeupandfly Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 normally wear a skid lid (normal helmet) but sometimes just wear a cap/nothing... only when there is no wind at all though - static flying with no pull at all as soon as the board comes out so does the helmet Tom Quote
DiDi Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 i just got a mountainboard and was wondering for a begginer what kind of a helmet would be good? i dont exactly have bucket loads of £ either, what would be worth gettin for under about £30. DiDi Quote
HiAsAKite Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Got a Gecko surflid coming in the post tomorrow morning... Quote
gingerob19 Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 i got my skaters helmet for £15 from my local skate shop! does the job. Quote
iancl1599968601 Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 For downhilling I used a bike helmet but looking into getting a full face after I fell off without helmet and hit my head (luckily only very lightly and just got a few scratches. Ian Quote
third Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 I WEAR A PARAGLIDING HELMET, BUT ITS NOT ON THE LIST Quote
bigairjunkie Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Got hold of this one, from Ostin at KiteDynamics : http://www.kitedynamics.co.uk/images/jingl.jpg Works a treat, has stopped my head getting bashed many a time. def. more confortable than my old skate helmet. James Quote
Ewan Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 I got me one of them too. But I'm thinkin about getting a full face coz I smashed my face with the control bar during a fall last week. Lucky I didn't break my nose but it was swollen for 3 or 4 days and is still badly bruised. ewan Quote
The Geoff Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Was using a bike helmet, but I've just ordered an XTRM helmet. It's the mutts nuts according to the bloke in the shop. Oh, and knee elbow & wrist protection, and a back guard (on order). Skate style wrist guards: Anybody use them? Quote
jasontmc Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 im looking for a full face. been looking at motorbike helmets but the have no ventilation . i know even with my tsg skate helmet my head sweats. i have also been looking at a sixsixone full bravo 2 downhill mountainbike helmet. but am wondering will it be up to the job with landboarding and buggying.. anyone got one? Quote
Kroy Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Flair what's the back protection thing? just wondering, coz although i've never fallen on my back, you cud do some major damage if u did Quote
spooky Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Hi Jason, Have a look at this thread it may be of use to you? Azonic Azx Hi can not comment on the 661 helmet, but I do know that if you are after seriouse protection then you do need to go for a Fibre/Kevlar/carbon mix type construction. ABS is ok to protect against low speed impacts and stop you from at least packing up and going home, but on most SK8 style helemts (and ATB bike helmets) the hard out shell is there mainly to protect the dual density lining, as that is what actually protects your head. Hope that helps, Jon Quote
jasontmc Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 the sixsixone bravo 2 is made from hand layered fibreglass with eps foam inner to take away the shocks and the followed with an open cell foam with coolmax to take the sweat of your brow.it looks nice too its 99.95 or so to buy. thanks for letting me know of your helmet but i prefer to buy new when it comes to helmets. what you selling all for? kitebuggykev1599968598 Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 How about.....None of the above.... I picked up 1 of those nice helmets made by Gath - a sky diving helmet 2nd hand approx 6 months ago....very nice indeed.....even comes complete with a pull down tinted visor for those extra sunny days we have here in Queensland Australia. regards Kevin Quote
iancl1599968601 Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 jasontmc, I think I'm gonna be getting a sixsixone full comp. Had a look in the shop and it looks great, on the net I saw the bravo 2 and it looks better but doesn't have as much ventilation (and doesn't come in my size - XS). Have you seen the bravo carbon? Bit more $ but if you want a bit more than the bravo2 you could go for that. Ian Quote
HiAsAKite Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Ok, my gecko has arrived, it lookd the dogs danglies, question is, will it actualy save me from my beginner kitsurf f'ck ups.. as I am sure ti have Quote
jasontmc Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 there nice looking helmets . in the cycle shops around here i can find the 661 mullet helmet @ £29.95.( 661 full face bravo 2 @ £98.95 (hand laid fiberglass) and the 661 bravo carbon @ £168.95(carbon fibre/fibreglass) i have seen the full comp it retails @ £ 69.95 (polycarbonate molding but not seen it in the flesh only on the web. the only problem i see is over £60 +you could buy a motorbike helmet. the problem with the motorbike helmets is no ventilation. so what do you go for the amazing looks of the 661 with the coolmax and ventilation or a motorbike helmet better safety standards? have you seen the fox tracer helmet A Polycarbonate outer shell, fully removable washable comfort liner and cheek pads, adjustable visor, cooling front vents and a litany of other features . Including many of the same rigorously tested and developed elements found throughout the entire helmet line of the race-ready Tracer sauitable for cycles and mx motorbikes. its a real nice helmet very comfy retails for £89.95 mountainbike uk magazine this month has a group test of helmets one is the 661 full bravo 2 they gave it a 9 out of 10 Quote
windy Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 i have a pair of fingerless wrist guard gloves (the type with the hard plastic strip that runs from your forearm to the middle of your palm). i use them sometimes for downhilling. i tried them with my kite and found them too restrictive. if you use handles its really hard to use the brakes, because you cant twist your wrists. if you use a bar you may be able to get away with it. (but i doubt it) Quote
The Geoff Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Take the plastic out and you get more mobility and still some support. Details on the back protector: http://www.tradewind-kites.demon.co.uk/catalog/pricelist/dirt.html#bpjacket (Other kite shops are available support your local!) Quote
Agger Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I have a Salomon Jaws Snow Boarding helmet, really comfy well padded and has removeable foam for washing as well as being able to remove the ear pads for summer use. Really nice helmet cost me £35, a few have seen this and commented on it's looks, comes with a sticker pack (contoversial).  Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I've got a protec ACE skate lid which I wear for most stuff...comfy, light and not very sweaty. I've also got a qranc OGK Full face helmet which is only a tiny bit heavier. I still can't believe they went out of business; their helmets were used by the Volvo and Cannondale bike teams (race and mtb downhill). Quote

(but i doubt it) I use the set that came with the Kheo pads I have. I use them all the time and have no problem with the Frenzy. I also use them when I borrow other peoples kites on handles - I find that I only tend to use the brakes gently or when bringing the kite down so not a problem. I haven't had any problems using them, but I grip with my fingertips and have fairly large hands Andy Quote
bushflyer Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 i use a spiky jack skate helmet. got a gath jobbie on order, but purely for kitesurfing. ordered the one with the visor to remain anonymous during my inevitable first time cock ups! Quote
drunkmonkey Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I have a spiky jack helmet too, but found it a little dangerous as when spinning and really throwing my self aroound i found that the chin gruard would ride up and obstruct my vision. Got a sk8 helmet the other day, and i find it does the jod much beater for me, i hardly know i'm wearing it. Quote
