freez Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 im planning on getting myself a harness and was wondering what is preffered and why, the roller or the hook? Quote
Jonesing4Wind Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Not that I know fer sure, but from what I heard, the hook is fer a bar, and the roller is better for handles using a strop...... You might want to get someones op that has actually used a harness, tho :~) Quote
Aussiewalrus1599968582 Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Yep, i use my roller harness with handles and it works great for buggying. Dunno much about the hooks Quote
Agger Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Both will work OK the capstan (wheel) is a luxury that you can do without, If you are going on to fly something like a Frenzy you will need a hook due to the safety set up, although I suppose you could ba5tardise it in some way, capstans are normally more than a hook. Don't buy a strop make your own for about £1. Quote

whizzer Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 You have to excuse agger ... his senility is now so bad he cant remember whether he pressed the submit reply button or not Back on topic .. I have a bump and jump which has a hook and it works great with handles Quote
Guest the guvnor Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 depends really on what you are using for a strop line on your kite. rollers dont like chicken loops / pipe or really thick rope. due to the diameter of the roller. hooks are more friendly as they run with pretty much any type of strop. i would recommend a standard hook harness.. My harness has a roller but i've only used it once so far, I was using it at weekley a couple of weeks back and as the wind kept dropping i was having to shake the kite to keep it airbourne but the strop kept smacking me in the face so I got annoyed and took it back off! meatloaf Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Any one find that the bought strops, like peter lynn are too short and stiff!!!!. A good piece of rope is all it takes. Whats everyones prefered length (strops that is ) Quote
Giantwasp Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 IMO Hook = handles or bar Roller = handles only And there is no real advantage with the roller on handles Quote
HORLEY_KITE_NUT Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 with standard sized strops and thin (1000 b/s) climbing rope i use the wheel , for both bar and handles - but i have used a hook (a hook spreader connected to my climbing harness - well comfy compared to my Q-harness !!!) - and haven't found any major differance to be honest - just with the wheeled variety, the strop runs a bit smoother (and may save a bit on ware) across it !!! But then again , with the hook type i have found that the strop is a lot less prone to come out accidentely !!! Quote
desciple Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Which harness? B&J genius or the Dakine speed seat or Slalom? Quote
