Blast Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) Following on from Mick's comments about the intro/action and story of a vid I thought I'd start a separate thread to see what people want from a kitesurf video. I totally agree with not having a long intro, which normally has little to actually to do with the video. On the other hand if it were purely just straight into action and nothing else that would also get a bit boring too? So ultimately a video should tell a story and feature loads of action? But I also feel it should give an idea of the area where it's shot. My problem is always keeping the video short enough, I always struggle to be ruthless when choosing the clips, especially from the holiday trips we do. But for those I don't care too much that they are longer, we try where we can to get clips of everyone riding...which is often almost impossible 'cos people just don't ride close enough (for the gopro at least) New vid for the Screamer 4G https://vimeo.com/117988438 http://www.vimeo.com/117988438 Home Edited January 29, 2015 by Blast Quote
broraboyan Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 The linkys not working. I liked the video, of what is gonna happen next, the same as this video The biggest asshole on Kitebeach 2010: you don't know what's gonna happen next, I like this sort of stuff.... The father and son video is definitely one of my favourite kite videos but it is a bit cringe worthy at the end. We're hard to please on this forum Quote
Maro Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I like a short intro, something to set the mood or scene. I think it's good to tell a story and to try to show off the location if it deserves it, and have a few arty "out of focus" shots just to break it all up a bit. Quote
Blast Posted January 29, 2015 Author Report Posted January 29, 2015 Before Mick suggests/asks I'm NOT wearing a Bikini!! Quote
mick Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Marc, truly I was going to use your vids as an example of what I do like. Of course, its all personal and as I said, I enjoy the local sights but I just didn't see the point of what was happening on the other vid. Sure, the kitesurf action was good to look at but do I really want to see a film shot in a swamp. There are one or two, mainly ONE (starrykite) who would love to get down and dirty with Ms Whitely but there wasn't even any real glam this time. Quote
mick Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I know many won't be interested and I don't blame them but this is my idea of a good vid. OK ignore the tight buttocks and tiny bikini pants and look at the other bits. [video=youtube;-3moAlhonFk] Quote
Dragnfly Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 I quite like a good crash n burn section too. The old Neil pryde windsurfing videos were spot on. Different types of action (this could be race boards, foil, surfboard, TT, whatever), a few (very) short interviews, crash n burn, not too many scenic arty scenes. Quote
JonM Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 OK ignore the tight buttocks and tiny bikini pants and look at the other bits there were other bits? that was one helluva butterslide at the start mind Quote
JonM Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 anyone else remember when your only choice was a 20 quid vhs tape? I think i must've watched 'Boost 1 + 2' like 100 times we're inundated with free vids now - i think it makes you take it for granted - i'm guilty as anyone - ashamed to say if no action in the first minute of a kitevid i pretty much give up on it Quote
mick Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 OK Ive had a look at my favourite vids. And my kitesurfing vids as well. While I like to see blue skys and sea, one of my favourites was shot at Sea Palling. Grey and brown. Some of the vids shot at Hunny are dark and grey but the one thing all my vids have is a terrific sense of fun and enjoyment. No point doing it if you're not enjoying it and that comes out on most of my favourites. Quote
mick Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 i'm guilty as anyone - ashamed to say if no action in the first minute of a kitevid i pretty much give up on it Thank you jon, my sentiments exactly. Am I winning the vote round ? Quote
StarKitesUK Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 You have no soul! I agree that too much fannying about at the start of a vid can be annoying, But I like to get a bit of a feel for the people who are riding. Dimitri does this in most of his videos. which is why I like to watch him. It makes you realise that he is able to do what he does because he is cliniclly insane. Paul Quote
mick Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Soul doesn't come into it. Dimitri is always having fun on his vids. More so when his meds are running low. Quote
