broraboyan Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Making one this week , get an old solid door , a bit of 2x1 , cut it to the same length as the door, screw to height side you desire then screw your door with the hinges still on it to the 2x1 depending if you want it folding up or down you decide then cut legs once level to length you could put t hinges on these that way they will fold out when you open out you bed/work bench:) Quote
broraboyan Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 You can also make it solid so you can put your shelves or big storage underneath. Quote
Noob Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Pulls out to make 4' wide bed. As was lucky to have a flat floor for it to slide on. Quote
Noob Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Slides out to make 4' wide bed. Made it a lot easier having a flat floor for it to slide on. Quote
Maro Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Have a look on the T4 forum Andy, most guys on there use a rock n roll bed or a cheap ikea sofabed but some have made their own designs that work quite well. Quote
Andy-j Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 my mate hangs a hammock from corner to corner which seems to work well. Quote

crash addict Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Don't know if anyone is interested but I have been taking sprung bunk mattresses out of Scania trucks. They are being thrown in the skip. These mattresses have never been slept on either, they have washable covers etc. if you want one, I go to New Brighton. Quote
stevethane Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Crash what's the dimensions on them Quote
mick Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Ive just pm'd him for the same info. Hey Steve, what did you use for insulation under your flooring? Quote
crash addict Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 They are nearly as wide as a single bed and are full length Quote

You have been raiding skips for used truckers mattresses? You do know what goes on at truck stops don't you? If not Mick will fill you in. Literally! Quote
The Geoff Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 From memory, Petula's van is one of the small 2-seat jobs, so double-rock'n'roll style beds are out. The fold-down version sounds like the better option. In which case its a simple case of building a bit of a box thing and having a mattress and a couple of hinges handy. Quote

You do know what goes on at truck stops don't you? If not Mick will fill you in. Literally! These mattresses have come out of petrol tankers, the drivers don't sleep in their vehicles. I have been doing modifications on these vehicles, of which one of them is to replace the existing mattresses for new ones. So these mattresses haven't seen a skip yet. It would be criminal to see these go to waste as the new mattresses cost over £500 Quote

andrewjohn Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Here's mine. It's in a T5. All the front seats (2+1) swivel to make the rest of the bed, therefore giving extra space at the back. The fixed bit is just 18mm chipboard, the pull out bit is 25mm square tube that I welded up and painted. http://www.flickr.com/photos/93029912@N02/9437460680/ Cushions are from an old caravan, and will be recovered when I can decide what material to go for.
