nigel Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 If you need Speed .......... buy Ozone Yakuza cheers Ruudje Sorry but ozone is a no-zone in this house hold. Anyway, the combats are just as quick, if not quicker??? Can't de-power a Yak either! Quote
.Joel Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Anyway, the combats are just as quick, if not quicker??? I would wait for some real life experience on this one before flouting my flag. Many have claimed to have kites quicker then they Yaks only to fall off their own stool. One thing you may really want to consider is that it has taken PKD a century (no pun intended) to get the Combats out the door. They have been "coming soon" for god knows how long. But in that time do you think Ozone haven't managed to get their hands on a proto-type from somewhere for a fly ? You never know, PKD may release the Combat and the Yakuza MKII appears quite conveniently around the same time ;) Regards, Joel Quote
nigel Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Stop moving my posts .Joel Doesn't matter which one it is, they don't have de-power. My post was on the PL scorpion. As for a yak, combat, war. I think you will find that the kites are very similar and the biggest difference between each kites performance will be the skill of the pilot. A yakII ??? ozone have already admited that they had a hard time improving the razor to get the yak, so I don't see a yakII being streets ahead of the yakI. Quote
.Joel Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Stop moving my posts .Joel Thread was going off topic.... Not wanting a debate in that thread on Combat Vs Yak Vs "I take sun shelters over frogs." Regards, Joel Quote
Pete Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Which is faster???? Just remember that just because a kite is 'fast' downwind, it doesn't make it the fastest if it can't compete upwind. To be 'fast' a kite needs to have the best combination of both up & downwind. The european race results should answer any doubts until we get to fly them. We will see what the verdict is in March.... mine is on order... so my money is where my mouth is  cheers Quote
.Joel Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 We will see what the verdict is in March.... mine is on order... so my money is where my mouth is  cheers Are you buying or is it being supplied under "demo" ? BTW Pete, you able to post up some results of the European league ? As to my knowledge they post the results and the kites the pilots in the top 5 or 10 positions were flying. Interested to see how many Yaks or Combats, and if any U-Turns made it in there. Would be good for some more healthy discussion / banter Regards, Joel Quote
Pete Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I am buying.... & yes a demo will also be available in another size to my personal one. So, we will eventually have @ least 2 on hand in the near future (March) cheers Quote
Sparky21 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Nigel, I kinda agree with your comments about how good the Yak II will be over the Yak I. Having only got race race in the quill, I was stunned at how much of a difference there was between the Razors and the Yakuza's. I was expecting frankly maybe a 30% lift in performance, but was amazed to say that there is probably a 150% difference in the two. My Razors now feel like middle range kits in comparison. Maybe the next lift between the I and II will be my 30% imagined lift. Peter. Yep speed is both directions, up and down (or across) wind. My thoughts would be: Buggy: 15% Kite: 25% Local knowledge: 20% Pilot experience: 40% Kites are at the end of the day just, kites. They do not go fast without someone controlling them, on something, somewhere. And yes maybe the percentages concerning the kite and local knowledge should be swayed more towards the kite or the local knowledge perhaps, but whatever, do not kill me if you do not agree. It is all down to the daily conditions anyway. The only real way of judging all of this would be to get the same pilot flying a quill of kites he/she knows very well around the same race track, on the same day and timing the results. The rest is just Aussie blokes, beating their chests. (But that is half the fun right) Cheers Quote
BobM Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 ACT, Is that a Razor in your Avatar - or are you just pleased to be flying? Quote
.Joel Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 I'm guessing most pissed off by the delays would have to be Jason @ BrisKites right now I know I was chewing teeth when Flexi ran out of buggies, but they got that back on track. However being a distributor and having to put off customers that are back ordering must be a real pain. Regards, Joel Quote
Jason Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Yeah it's a bit of a killer but as Micha keeps telling me, it's better to wait for it to be perfect than just get it out there. Any Combats produced and flown so far are just Proto's, so the final production model is the only one comparisons should be made from. Good things come to those who wait Quote
Andy Mac Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Having only got race race in the quill, I was stunned at how much of a difference there was between the Razors and the Yakuza's. I was expecting frankly maybe a 30% lift in perfromance, but was amazed to say that there is probably a 150% difference in the two. Likewise on the race only kites in my quiver, but I've only bothered to upgrade one particularly shagged 4.5m Razor to a 5m Yakuza, and the rest (2.5m, 3.5m, 6.8m) remain Razors. I found very little difference in performance against another kite I match regularly (4.9m U-turn Nitro used by regular beach buddy Craig) along a stretch of 10km of beach. Yakuzas and Razors both tend to lose a little downwind as the likes of Airea and U-turn pull more consistently through their wind range, but get that extra knot of wind across or upwind with Yakuza or Razor, or as you come around to point slightly higher into the wind, and it's "Seeya! )" I like the Yakuza a lot but my little 3.5m Razor in high wind is still my favourite 'go-fast' weapon. Upgrade will only happen once she tires out. Quote
.Joel Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Good things come to those who wait So any update on these yet ? It's March... At the rate they are going Pansh will have copied, produced at 1/4 quality and shipped their design before PKD get it out the door! Quote
Longbow Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 I'm surprised pansh hasn't made a blade rip off yet. Are they working on any race kite copys? PKD FTW! Quote
.Joel Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Still waiting on an update for the Combats.... It's April Quote
