sparkycrew Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 hy guys+girls, newbie kiter and landboarder, and also new on the forum so worked all week, planned a couple of hours to myself etc,and no wind, this is a bit like my other hobby of flying radio controlled planes and helicopters only in the mirror opposite, its always to windy to fly models, until i buy a kite then well you know the rest been for a kiting session this afternoon and stood in one seven highest points in sheffield and not a breath,so i decided to unpack the kite as last time i packed it away i left everything connected so it was a good time to check if it would unwind without tangles, spent an hour there after untangling the lines(must try harder next time) any way after practising time after time i got down to a tee second rant now (sorry) been on a open field today which is acctually a cricket pitch in the summer and the dog SH!T is sickening, you cant put anything down without checking first, all the nice people walking dogs saying hello take note the first time i see your dog squeeze one out iam going to do my best to run over either you or your animal if not cleared away like responceable folks do, anyway back to work tommorow i bet its breezy and thats my weekend hopefully better next time sorry about the rant, fantastic sport though nick:rolleyes: Quote
RedSky Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Know what you mean. I used to fly up on Ashdown Forest in East Sussex many years ago. But it's a gigantic shit box. People bring their huge dogs to shit on footpaths, car parks, greens and other open areas and there's kids playing up there!! I remember being told off by some angry old bitch with a dog about my kite lines then moments later I scud through a heap of dog shit on my arse. It was so bad that I had to throw away my jeans there and then and walk back to the car in my underpants. PICK UP YOUR DOG SHIT YOU F*CKERS. Welcome to KC. Quote
simo1432 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 hi nick don't know if you know but check out the S.K.F sheffiled kite flyers website i'm part of the club great set of guys and girls some who are out most weekends when its blowing including myself, always happy to help and give advice if required. regards and welcome to the sport. Markbrosnan78 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 I'm afraid you'll have to just grin and bare both. Just don't grin when you're riding through the dog dirt. The weather is the weather but you'll soon be accustomed to staring at trees like the rest of us. Had a good blast on the coast today. You might have better luck if you head nearer the sea, inland is generally worse but I appreciate that isn't always practical. As for the dog turd get onto the council. It's there responsibility to police it. It's what you pay your taxes for. Remind them it's a health hazard. Although it is a responsible owners responsibility it is a social skill that definitely appears to be missing recently. On the good days you'll forget about it all and it will all be worthwhile. badgerjc Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 The wonderful Brown Air freshener hey, not really much you can do, and i wouldn't reccomend approaching the Council as they would more than likely tell you you're not supposed to kite there anyway! And i'm sure you don't want that As said above, if a club is available close to you then JOIN you will progress soo much quicker, and meet lots of new Buddies, Kiting on your own sucks anyway tbh, and as a beginner not really a great idea Quote
Blademan Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Hi Nick! I got into kiting last summer after spending years flying rc planes of and on. I have now got into treetop watching for the reasons mentioned, and to to find crashed planes I also find that dog do is something I have become more aware of, also if I see a dog loose coming my way I have become MUCH quicker at getting my kite and lines away... happy days Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Posted January 15, 2012 thanx for the turd updates folks, glad iam not on my own on that score, simon i think ive been on the SKF site do you fly up around lodgemore way,Mark the coast is a 90 mins away mate,at the min iam struggling to find an hour to get out anyway,i know the weather is what it is,i fly model aircraft which also requires the right wind, its all good though now ive calmed down, its just the last session which was the second go on my board i learnt quite a lot and just wanted to carry it on,iam just a 39 year old kid at heart LOL,yeah the council thingy iam more inclinded to keep quiet or at least say i was just out walking with the family,i know the council hates any sport other football lovin the sport though,,,,,,,nick Quote
Markbrosnan78 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Don't tell the Council you were there kiting. Just tell them you were out walking or something and your kids fell in it. Quote

THE HERBALISER Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 wind your lines up and zig zag them onto handles, if you dont do this you will put a twist in lines for every 2 wind round the handles, also make sure you unwind the exact reverse that you wind them up,ie finally, use the bridle holders..flexi kites have these on bottom of kite, to hold bridles in place, and stop bridle tangles..once you get it to work you'll never get a tangle...i'm assuming it a fixed bridle. As for the dog shite...try the beach? Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) the theory says if you keep your lines connected to the kite and handles you shouldnt introduce twists, other than the way you wrap the lines around the handles and these twists should be undone by turning either the kite or handles to un twist, however i must be a magician as can platt all four lines perfectly,i'll get there though,to be fare it i did get around 10 metres off before the mare started, yeah its a PKD buster soulfy 3.3 fixed bridle on handles Edited January 15, 2012 by sparkycrew Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Posted January 15, 2012 parapacking is an option, although at the moment flying in winter i do like to wash the kite and air dry the foil and bridle when i get home so wrapping around the handles is probably better for me,thanks for the help though nick Quote
bash1599968729 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Always hold the handles together in the left hand and wind on/ off with the right hand stake down kite out the bag shake like crazy then check for twists never before chances are the lines have stuck a hit together given the impression they are twisted. It happens so often. Practice is good as long as you are doing it right in the first place. Quote
xtreme playboy Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 stick with it kid its not that frustrating really , you probably need a cpl more kites to be honest (if u r not looking already , has the bug bitten ?) to get the most out of the different conditions, keep flying inland(great for kite skills) , looks like you have got no choice living where you do , and the day you get to the coast it will be a breeze(no pun intended ;-) ) Buy one kite winder try winding all four lines onto that at once , dont undo any lines or handles . Have fun Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 yeah the bugs bitten mate, and yes iam looking for another bigger kite around the 5,5 size, iam on a budget and have found the pansh e-bay site but know nothing of the quality of the kites etc,iam quite lucky as where live i can fly at different sites which are at different allitudes so if its to windy at one spot i can drive a couple of miles and the wind could be half the strength, drive another couple of miles and it can be flat calm,on wrapping the lines mate i just need to practise and keep to a routine,i know it will come good, Quote
GrimPinhead Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) There is a 5m Beamer TSR on ebay at the minute, very cheap. Looks like the same one I still fly, but I guess that makes it about 4 or 5 years old. I have been flying for years and still get tangled lines, I guess some of us have it, some don't lol Edited January 20, 2012 by GrimPinhead Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 cheers buddy will have a look,i suppose the lastest kit is fine if your ace,me i just want to cruise around and enjoy myself, big airs and freestyle at my age yeah ok lol nick Quote
GrimPinhead Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 yep, I agree, the new stuff costs a lot of money, hence why i'm looking for second hand depowers. I would love a new £800 montana, but thats the price of a holiday for me and the missus! Paul Quote
Squarehead666 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) The Pansh Flux and Ace are both very good kites at the price; the former is easy going and well behaved, a great kite for a beginner, but the latter is very powerful and lifty, it can be a bit of a thug and it will try to hurt you if you let it. I've only flown the 7m kite from the Pansh Blaze range and I wasn't very impressed at all, it turns like a barge and has very little grunt for its size (plus it looks like a 70s hotrod). I've had a brief play with a Pansh Legend and frankly it was crap compared to my 4m Flux, which has become my most flown kite (it comes out with me when I'm walking the dogs). Pansh's kite lines have received very mixed reviews, I've only used them on PtP loan kites and they seemed acceptable enough to me. Pansh's handles are pretty dreadful, but you can usually pick up a set of Flexifoil handles on eBay (or here) cheaply enough (I use them on both of my Fluxes). As always the best bet is to try before you buy.....Maybe find some local fliers and blag a play with their various toys? FWIW & All the best Andy S. PS - Show a Flux enough wind and it turns into a very respectable buggy engine too. Edited January 20, 2012 by Squarehead666 Quote
