slide Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Nothing wrong with my 3m in lower winds... Put it out in 30mph plus and you can say goodbuy to the ground and then your arse --- - Stu ...,.,.my thoughts exactly - i have read many posts about , "don't jump with a smaller than 4metre", and guess what , i do on a regular basis - 3metre bladeIII - now that is a kite to fly in 30+, and i have confidence to throw this as hard as i can for a jump , and know i will get a soft landing Quote
slide Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 NEVER GET A SMALLER BLADE than a 4!!!!. If you want to know what pain is try a smaller one. My advise would be to just get a 4.9 III or IV.Light wind at first and then you'll be ok. Bet you never sell it. ....don't agree here mick , the bladeIII 3metre is a fantastic kite to fly in 30mph+ people say never jump with a blade smaller than 4metre's , well i can honestly say , i trust the 3metre III to throw as hard as i can , and i can always get a soft landing if ya jumping technique is not 100% there , then no don't try it , and if you suffer from lazy direct ( an affiction that "depower" only flyer's develop), also don't try it everbody should have a blade (or two), and fly them now and again to brush up on their technique Quote
bathy1 Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 One little tip, if you want to avoid an unexpected lofting ( especially in gusty wind ). Don't park it at the zenith to have a breather,,, if you want a rest either park it at the edge of the window for a minute or two , or land it,,,, they like a nice unexpected lofting!!! Quote
mick Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 @ Slide. Hey we all have opinions and feelings about the kites and thats good to read. I certainly don't have a problem reading other opinions provided they're as well thought out as mine. Bathy1. For a rest, I'd suggest gently landing it to the side and placing a large tree on it. Gosh, my Blades have whipped me up in the air when I never expected it. I was racing down my local field in my buggy once and for no apparent reason, I got a lovely ariel shot of the buggy at 30 mph from 5 mtres up. I got a lovely soft landing in a puddle and then peed mysellf laughing. Ah good fun eh? Quote
Bobba Fett Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 Sounds like a good day mick, I like a workout and a laugh with no injuries, that was my first power kite experience, puffing like a good un with grass all over me killing myself laughing! Quote
mick Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 TBH the opinion of ppl about Blades in particular is so broad. I've flown the Mk I, II, and III majorly. The IV only a little and never the V so I'm not in a position to comment on these. The I and III I found strangely similar. My III is a lovely smooth kite. I found the III able to go up wind in a buggy better and produce more power BUT this was not always what was best. The guy with the Mk. I.... I was testing against was able to keep a better line by NOT being overpowered. Probably this is where the IV and V would be an improvement by being able to slightly reduce the pull thro the bridling adjustment. The II I found to be a raw fully powered killing machine and I wouldn't own one at any cost. This is my opinion of the Blade 4.9 Mk. I, II and III. Read it and share your thoughts. Don't rubbish mine. Opinions are like ar*e holes. we all have one. Except BATZ of course. He is one. Quote
slide Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 nobody is rubbishing ya opinion mick the small blade thing has become a bit of an obbession for me - i remember (several years ago) watching stu and wayne (gravityy renegades crew) both flying blade1 3.3's and doing brilliantly , after i had just put a 7 metre sabre down , struggling in the gusts as it was a horrible onshore, and a light came on i am gonna get a 3 metre blade for strong gusty shit - i got a bladeII 3metre, and it was a mistake- blade II's are f**king fast ,certainly the fastest blade out of the I II III range, but they have a tendancy to fall back if not being flown fast , not a good kite in gusts ... but andrew jones did hit the spot here-as they have the most natural lift of em all i reckon, in an onshore they really can't be beat for airtime - they are brutal tho and really in ya face next i got a blade1 3.3 , and this is a very good alround kite, good in gusts , stable and nice ,and this along with a blade1 2.6 became my fav strong gusty wind kites , they can be trusted to jump with - a good stable nice kite i recently brought a blade III 3 metre ..... this is deffinately the best one (in my tiny mind anyway), and i find if you set brake lengths just right you can shake it back , if a big gust hit one tip out of play, a right glide machine the III i agree about the I and III having a similar feel , but the III has evolved into a grunty freestlye with good upwind performance (the II is a bugger to get upwind with ) i too have not tired a V yet- i do fancy a 6.5 tho Quote
mick Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Slide, you got me wrong. I didn't think you'de rubbish me but you know on here, someone expresses their opinion and the keyboard kiters coming flying out. (normally its me ) For sure, even I'd fly a Blade against a Sabre on a lumpy day. My IIIs are lovely in gusts. Sure, you go up but its a Blade ffs. Its what they do. I couldn't justify changing to IVs. Maybe its the money thing but I saw all the III owners upgrading to IVs and were they really that much better? They tell me you can change the power. So can I, I drop my 4.9 and put up my 4. JD and no expense. I had a session on a board with my mates 4.9 II. It was the most scary thing I'd ever done. I then used his 4mtre Blade II. in my buggy. That tightened me ring piece as well. So aggressive. You'de look away for a second and you were skyward. Nah I love my IIIs thankyou very much. Quote
slide Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 well it looks like small blades this weekend for sure Quote
