adamgerrard
three weeks ago all my gear was stolen from my garage in Lincoln... intially the insurance looked like it would pay out, however it turns out Avia do not cover watersports gear AT ALL... you would assume that its covered under house insurance... BOTTOM LINE check your insurance policy if you don't want to end up like me they wriggled out of it, like the snakes they are Kiteless, boardless, wetsuitless, even pump less they stole everything! if you find any cunts on a beach with a C4 and ozone zephyr, and a niash thorn not looking like they know what they are doing. please call the police
kiteingcolin
mmmmm, I don't know if mine is covered, you would think - who would pinch kitesurf gear, far to specialised, well thats what I have been thinking up to date, a bit like windsurfing gear, or sailing gear, how do you sell it if you dont know how to use it, I am to trusting, now where are my insurance policies?? I need to have a look. did they just take your kite gear? or clean you out of everything, look on the bright side, errrr sorry, can't think of one, that's bad, thieving scum, bring back hanging. cowboy54
hate to say it but I know from personal experience from Aviva that they dont cover watersports equipment as last year was covered with them through HSBC for house contents and when I rang through to check on renewal they said no. Even Leeds Building Society tried to sell me Aviva policies saying that it would cover them. Long and short Ive gone to NFU who cost me about £3 a month more for better cover. A few folks have said that Lloyds or Barclays will cover on home insurance but wasnt too sure looking at their small print. Check out kiteboarder for a few threads on kite insurance. I know not much use for Adam but best off to ring your insurers and make sure
AphexTwin
Gutted for you, read about that in the Echo a couple of weeks ago. If my kit got pinched I know I would not be able to replace it. Hope you get your gear back. If I had an old spare kite would offer you a loan but unfortunatly I dont. I know not much use for Adam but best off to ring your insurers and make sure I got lloyds contents insurance to cover all my kit up to £4000 and it's still covered if it gets stolen from my van too. I was worried about the small print too so i went to my local branch and they put it into writing that my gear is covered at home/away or in the van. (obviously not when in use though). I'm sure everyone will keep an eye out for your gear mate. Just a thought!!! but thinking it would be good if to fly a kite it was compulsory to have BKSA insurance and if a kite was stolen then BKSA email every kiter with the information about the theft. Surely then if the kite ever goes up in the air again there would be an excellent chance of getting the bastards that nicked it.
garybrazier
Sorry to hear that, I'm with Colin, bring back hanging for all no-hope scumbags. What size/colour were kites? Did you record the serial numbers? Probably not a lot of help but may be useful in proving ownership. I wonder if there is any traceability/proof of ownership if the kites are warranty registered with Ozone as mine are. Cowboy 54, I am also with NFU for my house ins, can I ask if you needed to list your kite gear with them, or is it automatically covered when in house and van? Ozone C4's 5,7 and 10m Cheers Gary

cowboy54
when I spoke to my local agent with NFU I got them to check with the underwriters who came back and said no problem, but will have it double checked for renewal As for listing, nope I didnt need to list everything specifically, I just had to decide what total cost I wanted to cover which also corrilates to amount per individual item you can claim. Best thing is to check with your agent On my own safe side I photograph every bit of kit I have in the back garden so I can prove that I did own it, plus in case of theft I mark it with smart water. Insurance will basically pay out as long as securely stored in my house, locked shed, car boot(out of sight) against theft.
mattfat1
Could you not say you used kites for landboarding? Then they wouldnt be anything to do with watersports? I thought about it that way......

RichieRipz
That's harsh. I know how it feels to lose a full quiver NFU Mutual are simply brilliant. Couldn't recommend them enough. Been with them for 11 years for the cars and now the house. Had a few claims along the way which have always been handled extremely professionally. If you are friendly with your local office you can talk to the same person each time, and they can be extremely flexible and fast if you need to change your policy in a hurry. No call centre bullshit, or being fobbed off. N F U!
mattfat1
Yeah sorry I know it's too late now. It's crap, i'd hate to be in your shoes. Did they clear out your garage or did they target just your kites? I live more central Lincoln and was worried about being targeted specifically for my kites because when you empty your car you can't hide the fact your carrying kitesurf equipment, and with all the media around us at the moment it only takes one click to see how valuable it is. Maybe we need kites and board bags to say 'golf' to trick theiving cnuts aswell as airlines. I checked my insurance for exactly this and for sure it excludes watersports so I've always just thought about saying I was a landboarder and end up buying a wetsuit and board. I wonder how they would react if someone claimed it for use on land? Do you think they would say it's a water kite even if you are genuinly a land user? Most websites sell lei kites under 'water kites'.
simonmcc
Another thing to be aware of - My insurance covers kitesurfing (all sports gear) but only if the stuff is in the house, so not in the car or the garage!
yorkshireboy
I had a full quiver of 'landboarding eqpt' incl wetsuit harness, the lot nicked a while back. Only thing they wouldn't cover was a surfboard as their policy didn't cover watersports eqpt.
