jhsg Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Hi all, Went out to amaroo with @crustybear yesterday and have caught the bug!! Have spent heaps of time today looking at buggy's and kites and hopefully with some time I'll have the cash to purchase. Looking forward to meeting the rest of the crew and getting more involved. Cheers, John p.s. how many posts do you have to make before being able to PM? There's some second hand gear that I wouldn't mind asking about. Quote

Ligerzero Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Hey John, Welcome to the best sport in the world. I know what its like once you catch the bug. I caught it a couple years ago and still to this day 90% of my youtube time is searching for kiting videos. I just cant get enough. Here my latest video to wet your whistle some more... Quote
jhsg Posted January 26, 2012 Author Report Posted January 26, 2012 Thanks mate! Love your videos! Next time I'll bring my copter out and get some footage.. check this out for an example of what I can do.. http://vimeo.com/30945686 Cheers, John Quote
Ligerzero Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Holy crap. The shots were gonna get with you on board. Awesome Video. Cant wait till the next time we can meet up. I need to absorb some of that knowledge from you. I'll trade you. My kiting knowledge for some of your RC / FPV /multicopter knowledge.... And maybe some Arduino code. Quote
jhsg Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 Sounds like a good deal!! Let me know if you're heading out this weekend and ill bring the copter out.. Even if its not suitable for kiting - we could probably catch up and ill show you the different copters I have. Cheers, John Quote
jhsg Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks mate. Can't wait to make a video of the guys kiting! Should be a cool one! Quote
jhsg Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 sorry mate. only got your PM late last night.. Will have to throw you my phone number. Are you guys heading out today? Need to have a chat about which kite I should get.. I should have my buggy on monday and all i will need is a harness and kite to get going! Quote
Goz Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 If your going to be learning in gusty and lumpy inland winds I would suggest not using a harness at the start, get yourself a set of kite killers as well. Last thing you need is to get dragged across the park by a poltergust John, if you are using kite killers you just let go of the handles and the kite will come down. For a first kite look at the HQ Beamer or Zebra Z1 kites size will be a bit dependant on local winds but a 3 or 4m is a good starting point. Quote
Ligerzero Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I Agree with Goz, Kite killers are a must for a beginner using a fixed bridle. But we can discuss the best kites to handle the Canberra gusts and get you going. In fact we have a great trainer that lots of people have learned in the past. Its an Ozone Imp 3.5. Nice size kite that doesnt pull to hard but will still get you going in a buggy when the wind is right. One way or another we will get you going, whether or not you have got a kite yet. Anyways, I am hoping to get out for a fly this arvo. Fairly soon i think. Stu maybe heading out as well. Maybe some others, not sure. Im just waiting for the sun to back of a little. I'll SMS ya when im heading out. Quote
jhsg Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Thanks again for today mate! Really appreciate you taking the time to help me out! Quote
JKS Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Things could get pretty confusing if JSKG starts posting in here. Quote
Ligerzero Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Thanks again for today mate! Really appreciate you taking the time to help me out! No problems at all. Just sorry that the wind today was such a bitch. But Like I said, its just Canberra. We have to take the good with the bad. Unfortunately Craig's reactor doesnt seems to like the wind when its like that. But next time ask him to bring out my Ozone Samuri 4m. That was kite and the kite that I learned on. So I can testify as to how good it is. If you like it then I would consider selling, but it will need lines. Hopefully next time the wind we behave a little better. I'll let ya know when I/we head out. BTW. Loved your quad. Looks like just what i am after. If you want to make a list of bits needed and where to get them, I'll start getting some money together so that I can get underway asap (hopefully in the next month or two) Quote
jhsg Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Will do mate. Id like to try it and buy it from you if okay. No worries with the quad. I'll get a list together over the next few days and let you know what's needed. I would budget about $300. You could probably do it cheaper but like everything else it's probably worth getting the good gear early on - it will fly better and you won't waste cash down the track. Cheers, John Quote
Oooo Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Things could get pretty confusing if JSKG starts posting in here. HEY Marty ain't it JKSG not JSKG just kite suffer girl ?? Can I have some of whatever u having Quote
gcdave Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 There could be another Outlaw in ur area soon Linger Hoping it's not gonna be too big for Amaroo and Craigs current skills - but from what little I've read about the duck on water...I'm hopeful Dave PS: nice vid jhsg and linger Quote
jhsg Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Just finished assembling my buggy! Next stop harness then kite. Quote
Oooo Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 hey JHSG re you getting a harness question are you new to flying kites or have you done some and are just getting a bug from what i'v read i thought you are very new to this gig if so would not recomend a harness just yet but kite killers first with handles so you can learn to feel and fly kite and this is a little safer while learning now dont get me wrong im not telling you what to do but as in other threads on here you will see what can happen we all started pretty much the same way but hey each to their own hope you enjoy this addiction we call kiting as much as we do ps and yes get the harness now for later if you want Quote
Ligerzero Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 There could be another Outlaw in ur area soon Linger Hoping it's not gonna be too big for Amaroo and Craigs current skills - but from what little I've read about the duck on water...I'm hopeful Dave PS: nice vid jhsg and linger Im not at all surprised. He flew my 8m outlaw last weekend and i think we convinced him that Flysurfer is the only way to go. Generally only takes 1 session on a FS kite to convince people. But trust me, I have no problem in the way that Crustbear is handling a kite. I flew his older access 10m the other day (while he flew the outlaw) and it was a handful in itself. Took me bout 1 second to remember why I only own flysurfer kites. I will say that he has balls though so we will keep a close eye on him. @JHSG I agree with wolfie. With this sport you are always better to play it on the safe side. Thats coming from somebody, many injuries down the track. Trust me, been there, done that. There was a time when it seemed i was at casualty about twice a month, well not quite but it sure seemed like it. But again, we will keep an close eye on you and not let you do anything to silly. But you have to remember there are ghost gusts out there that will pick you up and slam you before you realise. You always need to have your guard up, and wits about you when flying, especially in Canberra. Quote
skinduptruk Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks mate! Love your videos! Next time I'll bring my copter out and get some footage.. check this out for an example of what I can do.. http://vimeo.com/30945686 Cheers, John gday jhsg, i used to landboard at amaroo but am in tas now. that camera drone looks really cool, do you think it could be programmed to follow your GPS coords and film? anyway, here's a vid of my first landboarding in Tas at a nearby beach (smooth winds guys a few weeks ago: http://www.extremekites.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=16269 Quote
