Picked up my new permit from the office this afternoon and signed the indemnity form. Yes, there is a new clause, item 24:

"No launching or landing of kites within 100m of the beach parking area."

See y'all Saturday, though not Carl by the sounds of things...:(

Carl fuck it mate, I know a nice spot you can hit for 6 months. Massive lagoons as far as the eye can see, no permit, no flag, no rangers, nice little kickers. Epic.

Didn't some shit go down a few years back where some dudes van got burnt down???

If it worked last time do it again, Just set fire to the rangers and the tower then throw some sliders in those lagoons.

Good job i'll be away for the majority of my ban hey pete, don't worry i'll send you a few rays of sunshine in a box from Oz :) Ride your coldness

@ Carl - can't believe they banned you for 6 months for that! There doesn't seem to be any consistancy in the punishments for breaking the 'golden rules', they seem to just make it up as they go along. I wonder if they realise that by banning a pillar of the community, there will no doubt be an increase in accidents. I'v lost count of the amount times i'v seen you helping out noobs who have no clue what they're doing (including me a few years back).

sorry to hear about that carl, another top dude gone from the dale

its their loss mate and im sure when your ban is over you will be happier kiting at your new spots

it looks like ainsdale is going to end up a training ground for chrises noobs who will move onto better spots as they progress.

ive been screamed at to produce my permit whilst in the water with a long walk to the van, but hey i suppose as people get sick of it the numbers will reduce and make it a much safer place overall so they are achieving there goal

now that the permit system has been in place for a few years it it time it was reviewed to see if it has actually achieved what it set out to, better safety and reduced liability for the council, i dont believe a proper risk assessment has been done because in my eyes containing kitesurfers into a smaller area increases the risk tenfold and any lawyer would wipe the floor with sefton in a damages claim, its fine to just copy and paste last years risk assessment and put this years date on it if it makes someones job easier but if the risks have changed then someone is going to find themselves in trouble

also in the case of what happened to carl i think that the method statements need to be looked at in the way the rangers are trained to deal with kitesurfing incidents ( they are trained arnt they:rolleyes:) again this is sloppy assessment writing, lack of training or total dis-regard to trained methods by the rangers, it was lucky carl was not hurt or the council would have found itself with a large H&S fine all coming out of taxpayers money

anyway back to the point

it is time for a review on the permit system to see if it has reduce accidents compared to pre-permit and other non permited beaches, im sure it has cost sefton quite a bit of money to set it all up but has it been money well spent?

if it has save any serious injury's then yes but i very much doubt it

sefton your are a bunch of pen pushing nobs, you could have cashed in on what you had at ainsdale by developing the beach and making it a better user experience for all concerned but you fucked it up and created problems for everyone in typical public sector style

well siad kev.there is questions that need to be answerd and the sooner the better so we can clear all this shit up and get on with the kiteing.

The zone should be 4 or 5 times bigger, have some showers and a changing room, give the Rangers some better guidelines and open a kite shop :D

Its not much to ask considering the total size that Sefton run :(

carls ban = a sad day indeed. He has helped me out sooo many times, always happy to stop and chat, always there keep you safe. sh!t.. he does a better job than the rangers!

Carl this is bad real bad. You must have some right of appeal dude, surely the ks club officers will contact you and give you some right of reply.

If there's one guy I'd want on the beach to help me out in a predicament it'd be Carl. Dude, you're always there, always watching and always helping. Sefton have just gone and got rid of the best unpaid beach safety rep. they didn't know they had.

This beach is on my doorstep, I love the place and to be dead honest I've never had an issue with the Rangers, always had my permit in the motor and never had any grief. Going against the tide here but I can see sense in most of the regs. which are in the most part there to keep us and the public safe. The club in dialog with the council has kept what is a very popular beach with joe public open to all us kiters but yep, compared to the vast majority of beaches it's all tied up with red tape and maybe we've a few sad sorts. Being a Sefton rate payer I'm not happy with some issues at my local but I'm real happy that there's such an actual great ks beach so close and open to all of us (well nearly :()

Some good westerlies this weekend but it won't be the same without seeing that Synergy above the dunes as I blast up the coast road.

PM'ed you Carl.

Carl: gutted for you mate. I saw the incident and you were not the one at fault. A 6 month ban for that is ridiculous, you were the one in danger and no-one else was near year except for a land rover about to drive into you kite!!! I did notice someone with a new North Vegas setting up within 100m of the car park.....wonder if they got a ban also.

Hi all -

What a mess. I have discussed with Tom.

The only solution is to exert political pressure on Sefton Council. Arguing on here or with the rangers/Coast & Countryside ultimately will not achieve what we all want.

My suggestion is that those of you that are actually voters in Sefton seek a meeting with your councillors, on the beach, to explain the problem and a potential solution. Keep it calm, sensible and workeable. If there is a good turnout and everyone behaves reasonably and makes good arguments, there is a decent chance of getting a fair hearing. Folk like me getting actively involved and making the calls is less likely to be effective, since I am obviously not a local voter.

The Sefton Councillors are not hiding from you. They are all detailed here, including their mobile numbers:

http://modgov.sefton.gov.uk/moderngov/mgMemberIndex.asp?bcr=1

We might even consider offering to help those of them willing to help us, with their own re-election (envelope-stuffing, delivering leaflets etc. on a non-windy day).

If a decent number of you that live close by put together a group to do this, I commit to drive all the way from London and back to help you. I think it is important. And it is how democracy works.

It's a shame Sefton don't seem to see kitesurfing as a resource and something to be proud of, the beach is a cooler place because of it. They could try & get BKSA events and promote the place, get a shop / cafe going etc. Instead they seem to see it as something to keep under control.

As for Carl: surely if it is explained that it was an out of control type situation that wasn't intended there could be some common sense and some sort of appeal. Anyone with half a brain can surely see some sense here.

Could Monsieur Aworm help??

I cant agree more.

I have got the up most respect for Carl. He has helped me out as a noob so many times too. Always there to hand out advice and help launch and land. It is a shame that this has happened to someone who commands so much respect in the community from everyone i speak to.

If i could do anything to help i would do so in an instant.

Petitions, lobbying?

I suspect that Carl has fell out of love with place which is a shame. it definitely wont be the same.

Like i said. If i cant do anything to help i will.

I really think we should follow on north winds advice and get the more local people together and call a meeting to explain our arguement. As for the people who are ment to help us don't do s**t for us down there with the politics side as it seems.
