Goz Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 OMG Luke that is one large kite, but it looks very nimble for it's size. When you pulled in the bar on the first jump I thought for sure you were going to go up and never come down Loved the First Person View of the action some of the jumps looked huge and very floaty. PMSL at Tag with the tennis ball Great Video Quote
sluggo Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Awsome video Luke loved the POV shots... great shots Quote
Luke Posted December 19, 2010 Author Report Posted December 19, 2010 The 21m Speed 3. Requested a 19m to develop some new freestyle moves, Flysurfer suggested the 21m would suit what I have on the cards better. Although have only spent a couple of hours on it in total it is very user friendly, surprisingly can pin point where I wish to jump and it would do it. It was evident that in the right wind conditions will develop into a new style. Buggy Parafreestyle. It is big though, its basically a paraglider on a bar. Video clips shot in 8-11 knots (more 8 than 11) and flukey. In comparison to a 15m (that Dave was flying in the Video) it makes it look small, size comparison would be a 15m next to a 9m or a 10m next to a 4m kite. The Tennis ball. Came out of boredom in the flukey conditions was good training for pin point flying also. Go Pro HD settings. R2 16:9 @ 30fps (1280 x 720) 720p. Just ordered a second one, will have two for future videos, 3rd person & first person. Quote
sluggo Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 http://www.goprocamera.com/support/ In case you want to upgrade the firmware Luke for your goPros . Shoots 25 frames and other improvements cheers sluggo Quote

andy666 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 great video. That was some serious hang time and what looked like some super soft landings with that 21m Quote
nigel Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 More more more!!!!! We know there's more your not showing us. Great stuff. Can't wait to see more! (smilies from Kathleen) Quote
Jimmy22 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 may sound silly but a couple of para gliding lessons might not hurt, if you get sucked up in a thermal it could be an issue if you dont know how to get out of it looks cool though. just dont want to see you as an ice block in the next video Quote
Dave Shepp Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 They generally watch us from up high trying to get in the video's cheecky bugger's. Can't wait for the next session with both cams, and this time I'll be throwing the ball back...... without stealing the kite.!?! Stu Andy The Time is coming for a visit north guy's How many meter's of FlySurfer canopy can we fit in the 60??? Quote
plummet Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 nothing like a big air session in light wind aye?? that is one big kite. looks like it turns like a bus but who cares when you have enough float time for the re-direct! tennis ball tag thats looks like fun.... now i need at least one more guy on the beach to play with!! If ever find your self wth far too many flysurfers luke send one to me!!! hehehe. i'm loving my 15m manta but would also love the closed cell FS for stupid light wind water action too!. Quote
Spartan Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Good on ya Luke, that looks like fun. Im all for 3 dimentional kiting. Spartan. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 You lucky bugger Luke. 21 m^2, that's insane. Top video. Perhaps you have invented a new sport. Now let's see, place ball in the centre and see if you can grab it and throw it through the opposition's goal posts, or am I getting ahead of my self. Great idea Luke. Regards, Norman. Quote
Jimmy22 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 just had a bloke killed today in kiwi land boosting on a PL phantom , seems the wind went double up and he lost it i would think the bigger the kite and lower the wind speed you are using it in the MORE chance of the wind doubling , something to be careful of. The blokes partner watched the guy die by the sound of it . You blokes stay safe eh ? I was mentioning the para gliding effect earlier, it ma not be far from the truth. once you get too high to release...... you need to know how to get back down, before you go up. Santa says stay safe and no more bad news for the summer eh ? Quote
JKS Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Bugger me ..... that's very uncool. Just as easy to get nailed pulling out of the car park on the wasy home ....... You never know when your number is up. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Here is some more news on the tragedy: (Wakapuka, New Zealand December 23rd 2010). Tragically A 35-year-old New Zealand Kiteboarder·has died in while kite boarding in strong winds north of Nelson. (photo credited MARTIN DE RUYTER/Nelson Mail) The accident happened at about 3.30pm near some·farm land off·the local·State Highway 6. Reports are that·an extreme wind gust of wind lifted the man high off the ground and blew him into some trees on the farms property. "He then came into contact with trees and the ground before coming to rest some distance away in farm land," Sergeant Shane Miles said. Sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The man was from the New Zealand town of Tahunanui and even more tragically·the man's wife·was present at the time of the accident.·Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. Source: http://www.waterhound.com/tragedy-in-ne ... illed.html Got to be mind full of the kite size you pick. I once tried Joel's 19m^2 FS Speed III in 8-10 knots and was almost overpowered, really for me at my 67 kg a 21 m^2 is too big. Always have to keep in mind if I get boosted and drift a long way do I have a clear landing spot. Just had a look at Google maps/earch at the likely spot where it happened, wonder if the hills created an uplift: Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 may sound silly but a couple of para gliding lessons might not hurt, if you get sucked up in a thermal it could be an issue if you dont know how to get out of it looks cool though. just dont want to see you as an ice block in the next video Just thought I'd do some cross training and see what tips are outer there from the paraglider community: The list so far: http://www.expandingknowledge.com/Jerome/PG/Main.htm#Technique_FlyingSkills The first article is quiet interesting, the point I glemed from it was don't look at the kite but look at head where you are going, keep tuned to the bar pressure and keep this constant to control the angle of attack, see http://www.expandingknowledge.com/Jerome/PG/Skill/Collapse/ActiveFlying_KarlSlezak.pdf Regards, Norman. Ligerzero Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Awesome vid as always. Love that shot at the end where Dave is helping take the kite out of the sky. Shows you just how large that kite is. Im Jealous, but not so envious Stu Andy The Time is coming for a visit north guy's How many meter's of FlySurfer canopy can we fit in the 60??? I know your pushed for room up there but Im sure that I could add to the canopy if the offer was to extend that far. Quote
plummet Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 i've created a thread of the death in the landboarding section. lets not discuss it on lukes thread. perhaps its abit bad taste? Luke played tennis ball tag last night with 3 other blokes. it was insane. we had about 100m x 75m to zing around in. it certainly was fun. i don't know howwe didn't smash kites into each other. but there were times when they were mm apart. next time i think therel be 2 or 2 balls. compared to racing were generally the dudes with the best set up/kites wins this was a fair playing feild for all it didn't matter what kite you had or whether you were in buggy or board. Quote
Dave Shepp Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Yeah it's alot of fun and seems great for working on ground skills, I think 1 ball per person and maybe a soccer ball or 2 depending on how much room ya have could liven it up a bit! Quote
Andyfly Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Stu Andy The Time is coming for a visit north guy's Day 8 .....10 to go.... then if the winds right .. I'm on my way How many meter's of FlySurfer canopy can we fit in the 60??? Stacked or side by side..... .. it'll be interesting...can't wait Andy... Rip ..the kiwi guy...sad news indeed.. Quote
