Global Dave Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 I am now the proud owner of a 5m Flow I got it with a bar as I already have a decent pair of handles with my Beamer. Question is... for starting out on a board is it better with the handles or a bar? Quote
Dubs Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Dont even bother to set up the bar mate, It slows the kite down and makes it crap in general. I flew a 5m flow recently and theyre wicked! Handles all the way. Quote
tsp13 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 which ever you prefer, it's what is right for you. try both and see what you think. Quote
Phizz Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 For starting out on the board, definitely handles. Handles offer better kite control and make "sensing" where the kite is much easier as your eyes face the direction you travel. I have a bar I sometimes use with my foils, but it's mainly for heavier winds or certain freestyle attempts. After using a bar for a while going back to handles feels so refreshingly in control. benne Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Apparently the turbo bar works really well with the flow (If you got the flow complete with the car, its a turbo bar) It is a kind of crossover bar so adds a little bit of brake on turns - try it!! Quote
Fred53 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 i used to fly my flow on a bar but it slows it down unbelievably!! ive heard the turbo bar drastically increases the turning speed Quote
benne Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 I have been told (I havent tried) that the turbo bar is a quick as handles, looking at the setup, it does look like it would use alot of brake in the turns! Quote
lewisg1 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 My flows fine on the bar but thats probably coz ive never used it on handles, anyway o get on with it but beginners may prefer handles, up 2 you really. Quote
G4ND3RS Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 what ever works best for you, as with most things it's all down to personal preference. if you have both, try them both. then you can decide Quote
hankster Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 if you use a bar use a crossover bar so when you pull on say the right hand side for a right hand turn it adds brake also,in which case you dont lose too much brake control but you'll never get the same control as handles. Quote
Powerkite77 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Ozone flows are supplied with a standard bar so you lose your brake control. The turbo bar (sold separately) is a crossover bar with a depower-style action to vary the brake applied. Quote
Global Dave Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks for the advice, bit of a mixed bag by the looks of it. Hmmm... not sure what the bar was that I got, will have to check to see if its a "turbo bar". A littel worried about losing turning speed but will definitely try it out on both bar and handles to see how it is. Quote
andrewjohn Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Don't forget that you can tweak the breaks on the bar leaders so that it gives some break input to add a little power and break in the turn. Flows work well on bars when set up right. Take it with a pinch of salt, those who say don't put a bar on fixed bridle. You've got both so try both and see which you prefer. Make your own mind up. Me, I prefer a bar. But not on a Blade. Quote
