  2. 12m and 9m Liquid Force Hi-Fi Comps, 2009 model. The Hi-Fi Comp 2009 is a 5-line hybrid C/SLE site. It's a C-shape, with LF's diamond wing tips, and a bridle on the 5th line. It's got the direct C-kite feel, but with the extra control, depower and relaunchability of an SLE. Why did I buy this kite originally? I come from a land-boarding background. On land boards, I used (and loved) the Flexifoil Blade IV traction kite. I really liked how grunty, quick turning, controllable and powerful the Blade was. So when I transferred to kitesuring, I was disappointed with my first kite (2008 Best Nemesis) due to it's slow turning and spongy control. So I got Hi-fi comps on the basis they they would have a similar feel to my Blade IV in terms of speed and control. And yes they do - very fun kites to fly. Really powerful, really fast, really reactive. They are pitched as freestyle/competition kites although I never really got into tricks (mainly due to not getting out on them enough and so not being fit enough to try!), but they are great for free riding as well - mega acceleration, high speed, big boosts, popping over the waves, etc. I wouldn't say they are great for hardcore wave riding, but if you're like me, that don't matter. The only word of warning is that the Hi-fi comp is not for newbies who want really easy back and forth sessions. If you want acceleration, speed, power, a good abdominal workout, and loads of adrenalin, then the Hi-fi comp is for you. I bought it practically new in late 2009 from a guy who had only flown it a handful of times. I've flown it between 10 and 20 times in total. It has never been damaged and has never been in need of repair - not even pin holes. It holds its inflation all day with no leakage. The bar and lines are also in excellent condition - lines still have a bit of the waxiness of new lines. No knots or tangles. Kite, bar and lines were never stored wet for long - always dried out in my garage. Bar and lines rinsed with fresh water after each session. Included in original Liquid Force carry bag - heavyweight, sturdy, super condition. Pics below. If you need more info/pics, give me a shout. Price: £260 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Liquid Force Hi-Fi Comp 2009 9m Kite + Bar + Lines Original bag Blue/Gold/White colour scheme This kite is in very good condition. I bought it second hand in 2010. Judging by the bar and lines when I bought it, it had had its fair share of usage, but has not been abused by any means. When I bought it, it only had a couple pin holes already patched - patches are still perfectly intact. I have flown it less than 10 times, and noticed after the most recent session that there is another small area with some pin holes that will need to be patched (pic included). There are no inflation/bladder issues - kite holds air all day. The bar and lines are in good condition - used but not abused. Kite, bar and lines were never stored wet for long - always dried out in my garage. Bar and lines rinsed with fresh water after each session. Included in original Liquid Force carry bag - heavyweight, sturdy, super condition. Pics below. If you need more info/pics, give me a shout. Price: £180 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd consider an offer for purchasing together. Reason for selling: I'm gettin' new kit, baby! 3. I used to have problems going upwind. It seems that the primary technique which finally makes going upwind "click" is different for everybody, as testified to in this thread. The core requirement is to have enough speed. After that, it's all technique. For some people, it clicks when they twist their body around, or take one hand off the bar, or look upwind, or curl up the front foot toes, or keep kite low, or work on stance / body angle, etc. I tried all of that, and although it stopped me easing downwind all the time, I still had issues. For me, the "click" technique was to push my back foot HEEL down. That's right - my heel. I had been pushing my back foot down in general, but I guess my board was still at too little an angle to edge properly. When I specifically concentrated on pushing my heel down as opposed to my whole foot (and found a comfortable balance of leaning back - avoiding poo stance of course), the next thing I knew I was flying upwind. It all clicked in one session. Good luck.
  4. That time of year is approaching ... I am happy with my wetsuit and boots, but last winter i had issues with cold fingers - bloody painful! I was using standard Mystic wetsuit gloves. This year I want something a lot warmer, but also slim / flexible / good for kitesurfing / etc. I'm prepared to spend a bit as I feel it would be worth it. Can anybody recommend any gloves? Cheers.
  5. If you have an Apple TV, the Remote app is awesome. The various guitar tuners are super useful. Air Sharing (or similar) is handy for getting files on and off the phone. Don't have a lot of recent games, but some of the oldies like Edge or Dizzy Bee are great. Angry birds rocks. I also got Final Fantasy 1, which reminded me of the good ole 1980s on the NES I use Photoshop Mobile to touch up pictures which I post straight from the iPhone, tough I wish it had a few more settings. Loads more too.
  6. NICE. Music wise, what you need to do is get your original track (Breakfast at Tiffany's), and the Sandstorm track, and use some audio software to match the tempos and pitch, and then mix em together straight out.
  7. Well it doesn't happen all the time - probably during a long gust when I'm overpowered as you say. Was out yesterday and it was up and down the whole session.
  8. I suppose a bit of gentle arse braking might help Yeah I do try that, as you say, with kite right at the water, edging like fupp. It works, but does kill the legs, which if I do too much shortens my session when they're too fatigued. More squats in between sessions I reckon
  9. Trying to work on a few things to improve my riding. My local spot has a lot of room, but depending on tides I can find myself heading straight towards rocks. Sometimes I am absolutely flying towards them at full speed, and I haven't figured out the smoothest way to stop. When I try edging hard I actually speed up and it's hard work on the back leg. I hesitate to quickly throw the kite to the other side of the window as at that speed I would rocket launch, which I'm not keen on doing as I approach rocks (when I get better I can maybe control this to go the other way but I just ain't there yet skill-wise). So what I usually end up doing is slowly bringing the kite up and past 12 while leaning the hell back in some sort of ungraceful controlled semi-wipeout. Any tips?
