hi - i'm the new proud owner of a rage 3.5 and having had it out in some good windy situations... (20 plus mph) i have experienced the awesome pull that this kite has.....:D

However i'm looking to progress from steering it around the window, to try and learn some funky moves that will really allow me to appreciate this kite.

Anybody out there who could pass on some knowledge.;)

hiya dude, often see this happen. got a few tricks to try.

1. the wing tip tap......bring the kite to the edge and tap the tip on the floor and fly off again, has to be done under control in order to fly out the trick.

2. the box, using the brakes you make the kite do sharp turns and make the shape of a rectangle in the sky

Went out again today had some luck with the wing tip tap and it was nice to use to be able to rest my arms at the edge... ha ha ha.... the box really shows how the 4 line kites operate....

things didn't go exactly to plan later on tho.....

was scudding in a pair of boots that suddenly gripped... nice grass burn on my right elbow.....

taken me back to my rugby days when loosing skin was a regular thing....

but what an awesome kite... its an upgrade from a 2 metre radsail and the difference is some thing which needs to be respected!!!!

another nice one, whi is grteat to impress you freinds ( although takes alot of practice is a stall..

nose dive the kite towrd the ground aggressivly, then before it gets there, jam on both brakes so it stops in it's tracks and just hovers above the ground, let one brake off to spin it round, fly away and give the laydeez watchin ya a wink!

Try to make the kite hover in the centre of the wind window. Once you get it to sit still start applying the brakes on one side to make the kite sit vertically but keep it hovering. You can take this move right trough to having it fully upside down - still hovering. This takes a lot of practise but it looks mighty cool when you can get the kite to slowly spin round it's axis on the spot.

What you could do for inspiration is have a look at people flying Revolutions - look out for John Barressi, the master of four line trick flying. Then do like me and buy one (you'll want to :p). Great kite for those days when you just want to crack a 4-liner out for the heck of it...

try flying up from bottom left and loop at the top and fly down to the bottom right and "unloop" then fly across the power of the window and loop at the bottom left corner and climb back to the top again and "unloop" (or vice versa) continue to triangulate across the window untill either you feck it up oryour arms get tired....

after a while you can go quite quick IF you get the loops the right way around ;) and it looks quite cool too....

if anyone says it's easy let them try it :D

F:cool:

Reverse flight.......as with Rushmores trick, head towards the ground but at a slight angle (say from 2o'clock to 7o'clock) and really Really jam on the brakes. If you get it right the kite will freeze and hopefully move backwards - I've only done this a couple of times and may have had an advantage being on a hill as I've not been able to do it since !

Still looks impressive trying though !

cheers :D really appreciating all the posts..... lookin forward to the weekend to try and pull at least one of these moves off without pulling myself across the grass like superman's stunt double!!! ha...:)

Cool I've been flying my 3.5m Rage for almost a year now and never thought to try some of these moves... (I agree - awesome kite - so fast and controllable)

A few more obvious ones which you probably have done but I thought I'd mention just in case:

"Dragging" - just loop the kite again and again dragging yourself along the ground (on feet or belly!) smoothly without stopping or accelerating too fast - see how far you can go - gives good practice for controlling loops.

"Pick-ups" - sit or lie down in the ground and use the kite lift to pick you up as smoothly as possible. Then fall backwards and immediately do it again before you hit the ground. Needs a bit of wind and some sort of long loop action but can kind of feel like you're bouncing on an invisible cushion if you string a bunch together.

"Opposite arms" hold the red handle in your right hand and blue in left so that the lines are crossed once then try some tricks (with inverse arm movements of course) and see how long until you go on your face.

"Standing Backflip" - go on I dare you to try that on a 3.5 Rage

Standing Backflip - only one i cant say i have tried...

before i try it on my 4.7 rage... are you serious... dont really want to end up faceplanting... did one first time i ever flew a traction kite... unintentionally... but it was the painfull side of 360... like more 470... :(

Wouldn't recommend a standing backflip on a 3,5m Rage!!! You need something bigger with more lift for that or you'll just end up on your face.

We're talking big Blade or Bego here...

Not so, I weight 95-100kg and I can do an unasisted backflip, check out

(thats not me LoL)learn to do them on the beach, grass, off a step ,box or into a pool to start and you'll be sweet,99% is comitment, you'll need plenty of lift but power up the kite up as you raise your arms, jump up!! and rotate. Lead with your head ,tuck and the body will follow.

The same basic tenants apply to all flips and spins, the body follows the head (own the fear!) There is no reason flash kicks, gainers and rodeo filps aren't posible with a kite

Disclaimer-I am old (probably drunk) and have more scars and pins than any one person is entilted to

A kite 360... flying the kite in a circle right around you. It's a cool light wind trick that doesn't seem possible. A good workout too. In really light winds fly the kite out of the window across a new window upwind and back into the original window by continually running away from it to generate apparent wind and gently steering it up so as not to hit the ground as you go. Your running path will also be in sort of a circle. Then try a 720.:D You will need a lot of room.

I managed an 1800 two years ago with a 7.2m blade I on 30m lines.

I challenge you to beat that :D

On a trick note, get a friend to stand down by the kite with an arm outstretched in the middle of the window. Then balance the kite on a wingtip on their hand.

Yes, it is possible.

Damn MatJ - if I tried to beat that I'd have a heart attack half way through

Normally if a kite comes with a DVD it doesn't take long before it finds it's way to the bin unwatched. However I did watch the one that came with my Bseries Revolution - John Baressi himself showing what can be done with one of those. He was doing this thing where he ran the lines through the loop on a dog stake to allow him to fly the kite standing just down wind of it looking at the top of the sail. Flying like this means that any steering is going to be completely opposite to normal and would definitely be a challenge. He manages to balance the kite on the tip of his nose!

This probably isn't recommendable with too powerful a kite though!!!!
