Jackson d kiter Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 how dow people live when there is no wind on your day off of holiday. it ticks me off. last week i had a four day week and a no wind any day. something ease tht annoys me is injury. earlier this year, i had a broken leg and out of kiteing for three months. BobM Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Let's see Polish the buggy Get the sand out of the bearings Layout the kites and fold them properly Repack the kite cupboard Check the lines for damage Check the harness for wear and tear Did I mention "Polish the buggy" Quote
Jackson d kiter Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 yer. thats a good one mate. thumbs up to ya Quote
Goz Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Much the same as Bob clean, and repack kites and get everything ready for when the wind turns up again. Still no wind start doing all those jobs on the to do list that haven't been done due to always being at the beach kiting. I did the gardening on Sunday after about 9 months of neglect, that filled in a day. If the wind still hasn't turned up by that stage I start doing other things, last year I ended up buying a revolution kite and took that out on light wind days, and tried to master that. Anyone who has flown one will tell you what fun they are to fly. If there isn't enough wind for that the RC chopper gets dragged out and dusted off, as it works really well on days when there is zero wind. If it's bucketing down with rain or is just no good to be outside I hit the PC and get in a bit of online first-person shooter gaming action to vent my frustrations. Or do the rounds of all the kiting forums around the world to see what everyone else is up to. Now if you have got to the stage where all that is growing old and there is still no wind, maybe it's time to take up a hobby like trying sewing given enough lack of wind you might be able to knock out a new kite for when it does show up. jhn.holgate Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 No wind..... grab a bungee cord & rc glider. Quote
blackant Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 I've taken up surfing which i've found just as addictive as kiting The good news is that in Tassie the great swells for surfing happen in autumn/winter when kiting isn't always the best, the bad news is that I now always have my eye on both wind AND swell forecasts Failing that I grab the mountainboard and do downhill runs around the place. My inlaws who live about 5 minutes drive away have some great runs on their property, grassy hills and a fairly gradual 250m length of gravel/hardpack road which can keep me amused for a couple of hours. The only problem is when they have their nutty and curious horses in their with me, it ain't fun hooning down the road with a few hundred kilograms of horse chasing you Failing that, i'm a bit like Goz and try and catch up with chores around the house. regards Ant Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 When the wind is not blowing, I fix up my gear though I usually do this first thing anyway but those patches on the harness that will go bad if I don't attend to them. Then there are the gravity runs on the landboard, that is insane fun and helps with the landboard+kite when the wind picks up. And when the wind is no go for the water action or too low for the water action or just too freeking cold, I go for the landboard+kite action. So now I'm on the search for windy spots and places with hills. Some times the skate parks have dirt mounds and a decent hill to get you rolling, good fun with the landboards. Quote

nigel Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 But an indoor or ultra low wind two string kite. 1-2 knots is all you need for fun. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Good one Nigel, now all I need is a room to do it in .... our place has a cute little pussy cat as a resident, can you imagine the madness and mayhem that would result (cats just love to chase things), not to mention trying to avoid hitting the furniture, light fittings and my wife . Oh, right you mean fly it outdoors .... Quote
nigel Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 No Norm, you CAN use it indoors. Your local sports hall or community centre, cat optional. Quote
mojo Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Nothing quite annoying as not having the wind in tune with a day off. Nothing more annoying than having an inflatable drawn up an ready to sew - and no where to do it. Quote
Spartan Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 No Norm, you CAN use it indoors. Your local sports hall or community centre, cat optional. Nigel is not kidding mate you can fly kites indoors. Quote
