popeyethewelder Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Well sorry Si, but I will be at Mable around 1.00pm Saturday, pity you have to work Quote
ukspeedtraps Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Since you east coast guys seam to be getting the best winds and the weather looks so good to be on a beach this weekend, I thought I pop over and take a look on Saturday. I will be in my flexi with the 8m depower. Just look for the chap with L plates on his buggy... Wide berth advised.. May also be playing with a paraglider at times, with another friend that may also join me with his paraglider. Steve Quote

popeyethewelder Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 Well sorry Si, but I will be at Mable around 1.00pm Saturday, pity you have to work Just had time to get there and catch a few of you guys on camcorder.. I will be there early tomorrow for the day - forecast looks peachy Have a great day Si, today was great buzzing the full length of the beach at around 40mph all day... When I took my car on the beach when I got there, a woman came up to me and asked if I had a licence to bring my vehicle on the beach, I said no. She then asked if I had a licence to use my kite buggy????? WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes she said you need a licence to use your buggy on the beach in the summer I told here we had been doing this on this beach for years, and even helped to promote Mable in the promo video "Mablethorpe Past and Present" I also asked her who she worked for, she said East Lindsay District Council. I told her we were all responsible users of the beach etc etc etc, and what ever you do, please dont even consider banning buggying on the beach, I was trying to keep her sweet so after unloading my gear asked her if she wanted a lift off the beach....which she accepted. On the ride off, she told me she wasn't there to promote a ban, but to add facilities for the kiters etc....I didn't take too much notice of that part, just relieved she wasn't after a ban. Once I dropped her off, and parked the car, I spoke to the carpark guy, he said she had been buzzing around the car park all day, and he didn't really know what she was up too... Anyway....thought I would just share that info. Quote
Atavar Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Cheers for the tip off there, pops. Perhaps her suggestion of a kite licence was a bit of 'Blue Sky' thinking on the fly, if you'll excuse the puns... The fact she was there all day suggests that they expected you, chances are the forum is being monitered. If it is, please council dudes, don't be shy. Join the forum, start a thread and get some communication going. For instance, what facilities do kiters really need that arn't supplied by the wind or tides? You have a beach kiters have travelled around the world to visit, its not time to squander the resourse. Keeping my eye on this one. Quote
Trikbitz Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I think you will need a licence to take the vehicle on the beach Carl that is standard on most beaches only a case of submitting a form and a few quid. Hoylake is less than a tenner. Did you know Mablethorpe is a FED beach Lincoln land yatch club but it is not enforced as a FED beach. Gareth who runs the club owns the Caravan site next to the Haven. He is a sound guy who spends his winters ice racing. Just had time to get there and catch a few of you guys on camcorder.. HOUSE Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Well, I agree Chris....I was in Norwich all day, so lets have some feedback Si Well I over-indulged yesterday. Got to the beach at 8.45, had about two hours before the tide came in and before it got too busy, and then parked the Frenzy as a wind break and sun-bathed while the tide came right up (3 sessions of sun screen applied). Even dozed off a couple of times. After 1 the tide started to go out so had an afternoon of buggying until 6. Billie, Pete and Ralph turned up and a guy from Derby who has been in touch with you Carl. There were 4 or 5 kite surfers including Gaz from Knobs on Strings (or is it Daz??) and he topped the day off by doing a fly by in his parawing . Clocked up 72 miles and got to around 36 top. Fantastic day! No officials seen, just the coastguards who were friendly as ever. Hope your news doesn't develop into a problem Carl. I think it's correct that you need the licence to drive on the beach with a motorised vehicle but that doesn't apply to a KB and I've had the police allow me on at Sutton after a pedantic old trout shouted at me from the roadside that I wasn't allowed and called them. You're right though, the important thing is to respect the site, get along as best we can with the officials and be careful around the holiday makers. We know that the vast majority of them love to see the kites anyway Quote
playaviation Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Anybody have a spare set or pair of lines managed to loose the lines to my stackers in Northumberland last week Quote
