TJ_17 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks for the info! All noted. I have seen people playing at Strawberry Fields when I punt up and down the river ........... never stopped to lookin as from the water it appears to have a unworkable slope - am I wrong? Keen to hear news about WW! Quote
Dan R Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 As I was looking for some new kiting spots I've found this: http://maps.google.co.uk/?q=SO314NF&ie=UTF8&ll=50.867471,-1.319003&spn=0.007272,0.019312&t=h&z=16 Anyone know anything about that ground? Maybe someone will find this useful: http://www.eastleighreferees.co.uk/LocalGrounds.htm You can fly recreationally in the field to the SE of the old airfield but wheels are a no go, already asked the local council about this one. As martin says the airfield itself is overgrown and is as rough as a badgers a**e! There is a field owned by the Sports Complex that may be of use though. I'm actually going to see the ground manager on Sunday to talk about using it so will let you know the outcome. It may not be great as there are trees surrounding it, but may be ok for NW winds. No harm in looking! Quote
avspider Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Who's up for a fly tomorrow? Martin, Getting to 44 is good, I suspect on 25'sor 30's?? The 3 on 20's would of been nice ;-) Quote
martin Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Dan R - If you mean the field at the end of Spitfire Way, that's the one i was chucked off. Good winds when it comes over the airfield. Gonzo - How long is long, when you talk about the grass? 12" or waist hight? AV - Wind was in the high 20's gusting mid 30's knots:eek:. Didn't want to chance the Firebee. Stopping was an issue. I might be out tomorrow, where are you thinking of? Quote
avspider Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Where were you flying to do the 44? If it was WW, then shorter lines and go for the 3! Just stay hooked in and slowly apply the brake Quote
avspider Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Looking at LH tomorrow, as we did have a family comitment, but that's been postponed untill sat (and i have a free pass to fly on sat too) Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 Martin - with your buggy & the big nobbly (oo er) tires you'd be grand. It is super narrow though (75m wide?) so staying up wind is a definate requirement. Good as I say in the right directions NW OR SE, but nothing in between as you'll be constantly turning! Quote
martin Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 75m? Sounds like WS to me. Can you post a map link & do i have to be a member of Calshot or is it an open field? Quote
avspider Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 It's an open field, head to Calshot, and as you swimg onto the spit, it's on the left over the ditch Quote
martin Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 TJ-17 - I hope you're skimming off the top with them Wichards. Just read the thread:D Quote

Yeah, anything from the North is pretty good, but its a small-ish field and like you said, no boards or buggies. Fingers crossed this meeting goes well on Sunday, and it free's up another field near by. Its the one opposite Hamble Sports Complex, its normally locked up but the manager I'm going to see has said he's more than happy to open it up for us, should he be happy for us to use it! Like I said, not sure how much potential this field could have but worth a try. Quote
martin Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I've used the field with the school in it & the skate ramps. It has a ridge running through it at one end. Gusty as hell:eek: Quote
avspider Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Well it's starting to rain here. and i know it's raining about 5 miles upwind of us. So sacking flying today, as we don't fancy drying kites. If anybody is out tomorrow, let me know where and when? Quote
avspider Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Bugger, looks lovely out there today, but family has stopped flying. Hoping to go out tomorrow Quote

steved1599968766 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I could be up for a session tomorrow afternoon if anyone's gonna be out. LH, WS or PS - don't mind really. Quote

Dan R Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Hi guys, Need some help here please. I've just been speaking to one of the managers at the local sports complex about allowing us to use one of their fields when its free. There are some little bits to finalise and some odd bits to do before we get the full green light, but I would like to get some feedback from some of the more "senior" kiters around here! The field is along Satchell Lane, Hamble opposite the sports complex and looks like a good spot when the wind is NW. Any chance of some one popping along and taking a look for any other thoughts on the place? You can only access it by the blue (sometimes locked) gate off the main road with parking in the sports complex. The goal posts are movable by two people and we can shift these ourselves. If it looks like a half decent place, I'll post a few more comments on what we can and cant do, but till I get the go ahead, please do not use the field as yet!!!!!! Cheers. Quote
martin Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 I'll take a look later as it's on my door step. If i remember rightly it's quite open around that area. Quote
avspider Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 LH had hardly any wind so sorting lines/handles out elsewhere. Let us know if anybody is out Quote
